Sav files

I just downloaded the "Cycledog Random woods" from the STEX, and when I decompressed it, there are two lot files and two sav files.  I've never seen these sav files before, what are they?  Can SC4 read these (i.e. are these necessary) or should I delete them?

Thanks.

All I know is that they are created when You save anything you've edited with the SC4 tool. As for compatibility I don't know. On my computer, By default the file is opened by Half Life 2, So it would be nice to have some more information.

The .SAV files in the SimCity downloads are backups created by SC4Tool. They are there in case you mess up and need to undo what you have done. The lot files are most likely the final results and the .SAV files are the old files before the edits were made. You can safely delete the .SAV files you get in downloads from here.

You could give a SC4Model  file a .txt extension and the game could still read them. I tried it before.

    Anything?

-- If you installed nothing but windows, SAV and DAT files do not open under a specific application when you double click on them.

-- Windows XP sometimes relate DAT files as files that might be part of the system.

-- The main file formats for plugins are '.sc4lot', '.sc4desc', '.sc4model' and '.dat'. Occasionally there are patch files with the extension '.kbi'.
