On the NAM, what is light rail? Why would one use this? 

So now that I know how to grow my city to larger levels. I need more transportation. I have read that Monorails are bad. So I implemented rail.

Therefore, GLR is good for passengers, and the default rail that comes with the game is for industry only?

B/C it seems that I would have to put Rail on every block! Especially in the Work (C/I) zones.

GLR is basically el-rail but laid at ground level. There is also a transition between el and GLR.

GLR (as el) belongs to the "fast transit" family (subway, el, GLR, monorail). It's the same fast as the subway/el, somewhat slower than monorail and of course faster than rail.

Correctly modded stations for fast transit typically cost $10/1000 capacity (while slower MT like rail or buses cost $5/1000 capacity). Of course, many STEX uploads are awfully modded, but this is another matter.

There are many station and automata (trams, trains) for GLR on the STEX, just search for GLR.
