Hello, I've tried searching the forums to find out how to use maps from the downloads sections. So far I know that you have to put the .jpg and .bmp in the documents/SimCity4/plugins/regions folder and then select it from the list in region view. Am I doing something wqrong because when I tried that it just came up as a blank region28.gif. What am I doing wrong?42.gif or is this feature even available for mac?8.gif

HELP PLEASE! 31.gif

I've tried following your directions, but when I enter the game to load my region, it doesn't show up in the list of regions to be loaded. I can ask for a new region and import the jpeg file on top of that, but that doesn't give me the config.bmp file that went with the jpeg file. What might I be doing wrong?

Funny that, I just had this problem yesterday.

What I discovered by accident is that there are 2 region folders in the Mac version of SimCity. Make sure you create your new city in the regions folder located in the documents folder, not the one buried in the applications folder.

This is the case if you installed SimCity 4 in its default location.

Is the one buried in the applications folder in the folder entitled Sim City 4 Data? Because that's the only region folder I found; there's nothing Sim City-related in my documents folder.

Yes, the folder path should be Applications/Sim City/Sim City 4 Data/Regions... but you don't want to put new maps in there.

There should also be a Regions folder at Documents/Sim City 4/Regions... this is where you should put new maps. If you don't have this folder path, you may want to reinstall, that is the default position for that folder...

Once you find/reinstall the Doc/Regions fodler, the map installation instructions should work just fine on a Mac (though I think the combo is control-apple-R)...

Thanks very much. I had installed SC4 in its own folder. I reinstalled it, using default settings, and discovered that the default settings installed the program into the Applications and Documents folders under Users raather than the regular Applications and Documents folders. Very confusing. But at least I can import maps now.

There are two Plugin folders, just as there are two Region folders. Do plugins work the same way? I had a couple of plugins that seemed to work just fine when they were in the Applications folder.

For a moment there, I thought it was perhaps my computer that was screwy...18.gif

It shouldn't matter much where you install plugins, unless the file you download says specifically where you should put it. I usually keep the NAM in my documents plugins folder and everything else in my Applications plugins folder. Don't know why, but that's what I do...

No, it does not matter where the files are located. I have loaded regions from my desktop, my /user/Documents/SimCity 4/Regions folder as well as my Macintosh HD/Games/SimCity 4/SimCity 4 Data/Regions. It is simply a matter of navigating that stupidly PC region dialog. As long as the right directory is chosen, it will load.

It is impressive in a sad way how aspyr programmers managed to make a PC open dialog box work so well.

Hmm, just one quick question I don't think has been addressed: How about maps that don't have bmps? I'm trying to figure out how to download las vegas by scooter, but he only has the jpeg up. AM i supposed to make my own bmp or something?

Yes, you need to make a bitmap file for it. It's not too difficult, it can be done in AppleWorks.

There are instructions in the forums, not neceesarily the Mac forum, but it's the same on both PC and Mac. Search for custom bmp or terms along those lines and you'll find the info you need.

Wow! Thanks kbooms. I did my searching and even though everybody says it's easy to make bmps, I'd rather not do one. Is it possible to just find another map that's 1025 x 1025 and use their bmp for las vegas? I tried doing it a few times and it didn't work...so I'm wondering what's going on. I loaded a map before so I'm not completely clueless.

Yes, you can use a config.bmp from any region that's 1025x1025. Just find one with the layout the way you want it and drop it in your region directory for Las Vegas before you import the map.
