Custom Resolution Issue

i've installed simcity4 on my notebook, which runs 1440x900 native resolution (ati mobility card).  i tried to change to this resolution in the command line, with no luck.

i found a post on changing the resoultion by hex editing the .cfg file.  however in the post it stated that one of the first steps was to change resolution to 1600x1200 or it wouldn't work.  this can't be done on my machine because 1440x900 is the highest resolution it will go to.

my problem is i can't get the game to run in any resolution at 16:10.  i was able to get the game to run in 16:9, but no matter what i'm getting a stretch of some sort.  

and i realize i can run the game in windowed mode, but i get much slower performance.

any advice on what i could do to take care of this issue would be greatly appreciated.

although this thread does not cover your specific issue it does detail how to set a custom resolution in the game, although I do not know if you are going to find a setting that will work for your needs
