Random crash

Hey,

I got some new RAM yesterday and it works like a charm. Now, I'm at 512mb. I played SimCity 4 today and it crashes to the desktop on different activities.

SimCity used to not work because I ran out of memory too quickly...

Here's the top of the exception report I just had:

Exception time: 05/02/2006, at 19:23:23.

Exception code: 0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION.

Current thread ID: 1076 (0x00000434).

Version information:

Application/module path: C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps\SimCity 4.exe

Application/module version name: SimCity 4

Application/module version: 1.1.613.0

System version: Windows NT 5.1

System memory: 512 Megabytes total, 156 Megabytes free.

Exception module:  C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps\SimCity 4.exe.

Exception address: 0x007c73f5. Section43.gifffset: 0x01:0x003c03f5.quote>

What do you think the "ACCESS_VIOLATION" means?

I have a AMD Seperom 2800+ (2ghz), 512mb of 2700, 333mhz Ultra RAM, 64mb nVidia gForce 4 MX420, and a 20gb hard disk. I upped my pagefile to the correct numbers. I was able to play a small city without crashing, but now it crashes, say when I save or when I'm just building roads. I'm not running out of memory (System memory: 512 Megabytes total, 156 Megabytes free. - exception report)

Can someone help me?

Thank you!!

- Andalious

Are you logged on as the Administrator when you play the game?

I am assuming you are running the original sc4 vanilla (no rush hour)

its real strange for you to be getting access violations with a ram upgrade, this is normally caused by a ram mismatch, i.e. size or speed, I would double check and make sure the ram chips match, especially in speed, I doubt its a page issue because when you changed size it should of rebuilt the page file.

Other than that I would double check your video driver make sure its up to date, and close as many background tasks as possible especially your Anti Virus software (156 meg free seams a little low)

Okay, I am running SC4 rush hour with all the updates.

The RAM sticks I have are exactly the same... Right down the the model number.

My video driver I got last week from nVidia's site.

My antivirus is turned off, and so are all the other background programs.

if you are running an up to date version of rush hour, I recommend a reinstall because your version number is incorrect

    Application/module version name: SimCity 4

    Application/module version: 1.1.613.0

This is the rev # for EP1

    EP1 Update 1 - Release Notes

    Update: 1.1.638.0

    Date: Friday, November 14, 2003

This is the rev# for Batupdate

    version = 1.1.640.0

(Also be advised we at Simtropolis do not support or tech unofficial nocd cracks or any illegal patchs)

Okay, I did what you said and re-installed SimCity 4 (and then Rush Hour). Now it works for way longer, but it still crashes to the desktop at random times. The exception report is still the same as the first post.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

is the exception report "exactly" the same? including the same module version?

have you tried running the game in software render mode? if so does the game error?

which Nvidia driver do you have installed? version number?

Sorry for not answering in awhile, I've just reinstalled to Windows Server 2003 and I'm going to re-install SC4... I'll let you know how it goes
