cant see buildings

i found original sim city 4 lots on this site because i dont hav rush hour or deluxe anyways i get troubles wen i download lots. i download the zip files onto desktop, then extract the plugin and put it in the \My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins and when i play i cant see the building but only the base and if im lucky enough, maybe a small satellite disk or a air vent floating. i know some other people had or hav this problem. am i missing sumthing how can ifix it? please help....

First off, do yourself a favor and get rush hour. Second, your problem is probably that you are missing required "dependency" files or the file you downloaded is bogus. See a file's readme (if it has one) for the required dependencies (which should be available for download on the STEX).

Unfortunately Rush Hour or Deluxe is needed to use most of the items on the STEX. There may however be a few items that do not require it (mostly very old items, but a few designers might make lots that work with original SC4). However items that use BATs (custom made props and buildings) will only work if you have RH or Deluxe. If you are only using the original version of SC4 just check that the items you are downloading definately do not require RH or Deluxe.

I can really recommend Rush Hour as an expansion pack, it adds a lot of value to the game. You should be able to pick up a copy fairly inexpensively (eg in bargain bins at games stores) as it is a fairly old game now.

Once you have RH or deluxe you will need to obtain any dependencies as paperboy mentioned. Two very important dependencies are the buildings as props vol 1 and 2 files available from the official simcity4 site: http://simcity.ea.com/ Without these you will not be able to see buildings on your downloaded items. You need to be registered and logged in at the official site in order to see and download the files.

Welcome to Simtropolis! I hope you enjoy yourself here!  As the others have said, I advise you to get RH as it is now quite cheap and can be found on websites such as eBay or Amazon. You can then download anything from this website. Always read the ReadMe file as it gives you information on how to see the download correctly in game and usually gives a list of "dependancies" you need to make the file work.
