Hello,

i have a medium-size city with a population of about 45,000. it's been a while now since my since first asked for a small airport, which i counstructed in an area in the city away from civilization. Since my city has gotten bigger, i was wondering if it was possible to move the airport to a neighboring city and connect it with a road and still have the same effects on commerce.

Also, my downtown area has a quite a few avenues and highways passing through it and the pollution recently became heavy, lowering the land value. i was wondering what are some quick and efficient suggestions to cut down pollution

Finally, my EL train and subway networks have recently become super congested since i connected my other two neighboring cities. what can i do to lighten up traffic in mass transit systems???

Thanks for the help

Okay, three things to tackle here.

1. No. The airports only have the demand-cap relief on the city in which they are placed. Neighbour cities are not affected.

2. There's no real solution to this problem, I'm afraid. I mean, parks and trees and such will reduce pollution, sure, but that will take land area away from your downtown, and the effect is pretty minimal.

3. You need to provide more possible routes for MT, bypassing congested ones. Also, using multiple forms of MT (Subway, bus, rail) can help, as it gives sims more choice.

Yeah, busses seem to be the most effective form of mass transit. Lots and lots of them!

You can also reduce pollution by enacting the pollution control ordinances.

If you are comfortable with using customized lots from the STEX, you can get:

1. Pollution control plants - work best with dirty industry, the one I got wasn't that effective with vehicular pollution.

2. Higher-capacity EL and subway stations - these have been modded to have more capacity, e.g double or more.

I'm a big fan of mixed use zoning as a means of cutting down on traffic. That means even towards your city center it would be good to have a few zones of industrial and mix up some high density residential next to your commercial. Then you have Sims taking transportation in the opposite direction of the 'burbs --> downtown commuter traffic, thereby improving the efficiency of your avenue and one way street lanes. The more Sims that commute via shoe leather the less strain on your streets and MT.

On a personal note, I live in downtown Dallas Texas, and pedestrian commute is more than theory, I put it to use daily.

I'm thinking about... What about if you built an island within your city and place the airport there with a bridge? It will work only if you have rivers, thou.

Yeah, and island airport works, at long as you have a bridge to the island. For some reason, my airport on an island wouldn't work with only ferries going to the island.

I havent tested it yet, but i read somewhere that the SWAP custom airport pack has a somthing called airport tram, which you put in your main city. the airport can be wherever else in the region and yet the effect would be the same as having an internatonal airport in your city. As i've said, however, i havent tested it yet.
