What are the labor laws where you live?

Pretty much what the title says, I was just wondering what different labor laws are in different places. If you could post them here, that would be great!

For example, I live in Jackson, Michigan. Here, you need to be 16 to get a job. You must also have a work permit if you are under 18.

I'm curious as to how laws vary in different areas of the world.

Texas Is a right to work state which means you dont have to join a union to get a job. but the company can fire your for just about any reason they like,

i think thier are age limits of 16 for non driving positions and 18 if you drive in the course of your work ( delivery drivers , Couriors ect) moslty because they want drivers with some experience of driving and probably for insureance reasons as well.

As far as I know you can get a part-time job at the age of 15 in Slovenia. You can get a full-time job at the age of 18. I have no idea about the other stuff.

Apparently, 13 year olds can get part time jobs here. At least, that's what my brothers firend says.

Of course, he had an XBox 360 that no one else could see a good 6 months before it came out.

I think 14 years old is the age in which you can get a part-time job. Every 4 hours you work, you have to get a 15-30 minute break.

I support that.  When I was at McD's working on maintenance, the hiring age for kids was 14.

There used to be a 65 and out clause here, but it was repealed recently.  However, many union contracts, still in force, mandate out at 65.  The 65 and retire thing seems to have been a pious wish.  The feds have talked about raising elegibility for CPP to 70.

Anyway, if you are working in Canada, your best bet is an RRSP.  They are portable, and should be safe.  To retire these days, you need an income of about $40,000 before taxes for a couple.  If it was interest income, you can calculate what capital would have to be behind that if you use the current prime rate and add about 2%.

Maryland has laws printed on their youth worker's permits so hopefully when they sign, they have read the short, 1 page thing of laws. You can get a job at age 14, part time. Generally, you can only work 23 hours a week and at maximum, in combination with school, can only work 12 hours in one day. There's more to it which can be found here.

To say the least, I violated MANY MANY MANY of these laws willingly cause it is highly restrictive despite the fact that I had high school activities and four AP classes. I routinely worked 40 hours a week during school and no one ever got in trouble. I really don't think worker's permits are enforced and only if the student really cares that much.

And to think that I'd be praying to end early..

Oh, and since I have no idea about our labour laws, I do know my way around the government's network. This is a link to the Employment Act on the website of the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs. There are also some child-specific employment regulations, but they're only in Slovenian and I don't have the nerve to read and translate them..
