Date: 1/13/2006 12:43:53 PM Author: Hanson784 Welcome back! Good things come to those who wait. In this case it is the gift of a beautiful BAT. Now it is perfect. The only thing that is slightly inacurate is the one ways should be an avenue. Other than that Helmsley is falwless. Yeah, I looked at making the one ways an avenue, but the roads on an avenue are too close together...I would have to lose the entryway. -

Thanks for all the input. Here are the final shots. I'm uploading it to the STEX tonight. http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Day_final.jpg align=baseline> http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Night_final.jpg align=baseline> I was able to get the bricks smaller and still keep a gradient on them. I worked on the lights...ended up using omni lights verses spot lights on the roof and used a less yellow color. Vehicles can drive under the building and I created a CO$$ with 2500+ jobs. Thanks again for the feedback. Unless I get some terrible reviews on the STEX, I don't plan on doing any more work on this any time soon. I also updated my MetLife building with jobs. -Veen -

Ok...here's the latest. I played with different size bricks, kind of tricky to get the gradient to work because the building is so tall. Additionally, the windows have been recessed the windows (with a night lighting of .4-.6) and I toned down the roof so it's not as bright. The roof is supposed to be all lite up at night. It's hard to get it to look like it's not glowing. I've got about 16 different lights pointed at it, not to mention the ones along the walkway. If the light fades too much, it takes on a greyish look (see the corners). Again...open to any more suggestions befoer posting on the STEX. Considering a CO$$$ with ~2500 jobs. http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Day_new.jpg align=baseline> http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Night_new.jpg align=baseline> sparkythepenguin--Yes, there are really roads like that running through the building. Check out the following sites that I used. http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=114271 http://www.nyc-architecture.com/MID/MID033.htm http://www.thecityreview.com/helmsley.html I used Google Earth.lnk to recreate the roof junk and textures. -

_________UPDATES_________ Version 2 available - Added requirement for water - Increased through traffic to decrease congestion __________________________ It's been almost a year since I created my first building. Had some time off over christmas and thought I'd give it a go again. Looking for feed back before I release it. I open for suggestions. The building texture is supposed to have bricks on it, but I think they're too small to so up in SC4. Here's a day picture. And yes, vehicles can drive through just like the actual building. I know the roads actually turn inside the building, but I didn't think that would look as good in the game. http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Day.jpg align=baseline> Here's a night picture. http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Night.jpg align=baseline> And finially, a picture to show scale. The lot is 7x4....the same width as Grand Central Station which is acurate. Additionally the height can be compared to my MetLife building and the Chrystler building which I feel is also accurate. http://www.geocities.com/vanderveenre/Helmsley_Scale.jpg align=baseline> Ok, let me know what you all think. -

The history of the MetLife Building begins in 1954 as part of the plan to reconstruct Grand Central Terminal. Erwin S. Wolfson developed the project in the early 1960's with the assistance of the architects Emery Roth and Sons, Walter Gropius and Pietro Belluschi. When the doors of 200 Park Avenue opened on March 7, 1963, it was known as "The Pan Am Building" and was the focal point of Park Avenue. Today, this building is known as "The MetLife Building 200 Park Avenue." It stretches from East 43rd Street to East 45th Street and offers direct access to Grand Central Terminal, an important transportation hub in New York City. The file contains a CO$$ plopable and a combination Grand Central and MetLife Building lot. The later was based on a request from several users in order to maintain proper spacing between streets and avenues in custom NYC maps. -
I agree with you Tourist. When I got SC4, one of the first things I did was to start to create New York City. I'll post some pictures soon. After laying out the city, I began to zone it exactly like NYC. Pretty time consuming. I stopped after BAT came out, because this openned a whole new dimension. I started to create my own NYC buildings. I haven't rendered any yet because I have an old computer. Currently I'm working on the MetLife building. If anyone has some real pictures of the base of this building, please post. I've researched about every picture on the internet of this building, so don't post anything you find on the internet. Thanks.
