There are some very talented designers here at ST (just look at the UNIO designs as well as Schulmanator's coins), so hopefully this will be a place to showcase them.

The 10 simolean note/bill of Ellis Valley is a mini showcase of one of my bigger cities: Port Sinclair, with its motto of 'Industry and Safe Harbor'.

The front: a tall ship celebrates the merchant shipping of Port Sinclair's past, the lighthouse represents safe passage into the port, and the cogs are symbols of industry. Security features: large cogs embossed, multiple small cogs, silver thread with the word TEN printed on each exposed section, lower right 10 is a hologram.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

...and the back: the main image focuses on modern industry, and the ship's wheel represents maritime activity. An easy-to-read contrasting 10 is helpful to those of poor sight. Further security features: watermark of the lighthouse image on the left side, the lower left 10 is textured, there are multiple small 10s at the bottom of the note, and the background in the oval is a different color to the rest of the note.

Cool design !!  I especially like all the detail you put into it.  Your the only person I know who has designed their own money for SC4.  Do you have any other bills designed?

That's really cool! All I need is a CJ and I'll have some basis or theme for my currency. You got other bills? Maybe even coins! This is a great idea 4.gif

Hi, Prophet42, there are a couple of money designers out there... Green Depra and the SCJU have paper money, Schulmania has lots and lots of coins. The only other bill I'v designed is the 20 simolean... see below.

Hi, Bumdark, thanks! I hope that others will contribute to this thread.

Hi, TRNSTN, glad you like the idea. I thought it would be nice to see what others create and have it all in one place. The 20 is below, I haven't worked on any others (but 1,2,5,50 and 100 are planned) or mastered coins yet...

    _______________________________________________

The 20 simolean bill/note takes its themes from the largest metropolitan area in Ellis Valley - Eloff, with its twin themes of commerce and free passage. The bill is the same length as the 10, but 1/4 inch taller.

Obverse: the busiest rail bridge is the one that connects Ellis Island to the north at Readbridge, and represents the free movement of people, goods and ideas throughout Ellis Valley and beyond. The embossed scales indicate commerce, and the Uphof Clocktower indicates the importance of time. The right lower 20 is a hologram. The small shapes are octagons - just like the shape of the roads around Eloff's Commercial Plaza.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Reverse: the main image features some of the historic commercial buildings in Eloff, situated right on the plaza. Below the easy-to-see 20 for the partially sighted is a stylized compass rose representing all the directions that people and goods flow in and out of Eloff. Security features: watermark of the Clocktower, textured 20 lower left, security thread with the number 20 printed on it and multiple small 20s scattered across the bottom of the note. All 20s have unique, 9 digit serial numbers.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

    _______________________________________________

[Edit: well, I've caught the design bug now! Here's the 5 sim.]

The 5 simolean bill/note takes its themes from two different places in Ellis Valley - Science and Natural Havens. The bill is the same height as the 10, but 1/2 inch less wide.

Obverse: the peaks of Forthennia National Park showcase the natural rugged beauty of Ellis Valley. The embossed atom represents Science, and is repeated in the upper right background. The silhouette of a modern windmill is evidence of the intersection between the two.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Reverse: the main image is one of the Valley's advanced research centers. A tree of life motif in the bottom right corner is highlighted in red tones, and repeated in the background design. The watermark features a traditional windmill, showing the connection between the past and the future.

Hi, Schulmnator2, Thanks for posting your coins here, they look great! As for the patterns, I just drew them and duplicated and merged layers many times, I also transformed some layers to be larger/smaller than others, then just layered them on top of each other with varying degrees of opacity. Glad you like the effect.

Hi, Silur, thanks for showing the Russian notes, not quite what the thread is about but very interesting.

Hi, Shadow_Assassin, thanks for posting your money - looks nice although the 2nd image looks a little empty... I also like the fact that you've shown an image of your city.

Hi,6underground, perhaps Savannah was making the notes resemble Unios in preparation for transition to monetary union... and hopefully you'll post some of the Unios here - there are some gorgeous ones out there.

    _______________________________________________

Here's the 2 simolean from Ellis Valley. 1/2 inch less wide than the 5. Twin themes are Agriculture and Long Life

Obverse: a modern hospital with helipad is the main image. The structure showcased on the right is a grain elevator, and a stylized stalk of wheat is embossed on the left. The background is a variation on the wheat image.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Reverse: the main image is a classic Valley homestead (with an accompanying flock of llamas). The agricultural theme is emphasized in the background with a pastoral image of farmland and a watermark of a llama. The medical caduceus with its staff and serpents is featured below the easy-to-read 2.

The Unio is the SimCity Journal's Single Currency and legal tender. It is used in member states specified on the notes/bills. You may recognise the CJ's from here, SC4D and Simphoni. These were made by Slann, who's CJ: Dominea is a proud member state of the SCJU.

6u, thanks for uploading those images - they look great! Neat idea to have different nations on versions of the notes. My favorites are: St Marque Inlet 50 Unio (love the tiger)and the Auckland 20 (kiwi image is cool). Looks like a lot of work has gone into it. Also a clever idea to allow each nation to produce their own 1 Unio note. The only criticism I would have is that the colors used on the 1 and 100 are a bit similar.

The Lirretta is the currency of the Shalman Empire. One Lirretta is 3.4 euro. The writing on the Lirretta (the coins) are in Atario (fictional language I have made up) and the banknotes are in Greek. Both languages are official in the Empire.

@balkair: The language is just an invented one. It is inverted english written on Symbol Font. Well, for example, "Welcome", it will become "Emoclew" when inverted, and "Inuqrih" if I switched the letters... hehe... W=H, E=I, L=R, C=Q, O=U, M=N....

Thanks for adding your money, Balkair, noypi, and simcitymaster.

@ Balkair: I use photoshop and create different layers. I repeatedly copy and paste an image or lines into a layer. Then I duplicate layer, and play around with scale and color blending.

Thanks for showing us your new Schulmania coins!

Here's the Ellis Valley Reserve Bank 50 simolean note, which has orange as its main color.

The obverse shows one of the universities, representing freedom of thought, expression, learning and information. The embossed image is a cannon, reflecting the fact that, while warfare was necessary in the past, Ellis Valley is now a peaceful place. The background includes a military 5-pointed star. SEcurity features: hologrammed 50 bottom right, and a double metallic thread in gold and silver.

    note50.jpg

The reverse features the oldest military structure in Ellis Valley, the Old Castle of Oldcastle. Felons are now held in mdern prison facilities, so the Castle is now a tourist attraction. Two symbols for peace, a dove and olive branch, are bottom right below the easy-to-read 50. A watermark of the military 6 star symbol is an added security feature.

The 100 simolean note is the highest denomination issued by the Ellis Valley Reserve Bank. The main colors are black and white.

The themes of this note are Exploration and Civitas. Ellis Valley was discovered by Ellis and West, and the center of the reverse  shows how the Valley looked before it was settled by farmers, fishermen, pirates, and merchants. The theme is continued with an embossed shuttle on the obverse, and a watermark image of the moon - the future of exploration. Civitas is a term encompassing city and government planning and building. Good government is represented on the obverse by the dome of the parliament building in front of the Ellis Valley flag. Planning is represented on the reverse by a generic subway map, each line of which is in one color of each note in the series. The appearance of the map is designed with a circle line to reflect the round moon, and also the globe symbol on the 1 simolean note. The 100 simolean is a high value note, and to deter forgeries a triple security thread in incorporated into the design.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the currency of The Great Empire of The Royal United Commonwealth. This is a repost, as my previous one didn't turn out too good. Anyways, the Simoleons of The Commonwealth is issued by The Royal Reserve Bank of The Royal United Commonwealth, in conjunction with the Royal Engraving Offices. Our highest denomination is the $100. All our currency have several security features, which have eliminated counterfeiting. Features includes a special canvas paper, 2 vertical microprint bands, a microprint border, several watermarks, and intaglio printing. Persons appearing on the currency are:

    • $1: William Ralph Wright ®, the first elected President of the then-Simeon Nation
    • $2: Bill Clinton, former US President and current Ambassador to the United States
    • $5: Pope John Paul II, who blessed me at the age of 4 on his visit to Detroit
    • $10: Don "Grapes" Cherry, hockey legend, sharp dresser, and one of my key advisors
    • $20: Princess Samantha I (1991-2007), my late "daughter"
    • $50: Her Royal Highness, First Lady Jessica Reece, my wife
    • $100: me, the first Democrat President elected to the then-Simeon Nation, and the last President elected.
