  1. Metropolitan Avondale Area

wow thanks for the compliments all, I like the layout too. okay everyone seems to want to go for the green line so that is what i'll do in a few. some has also brought up keeping both lines with various ideas on that. for now i'll put in the green line and at a later time i'll come back to this. Responses: @lakeyboy, Yeah I do plan on doing a loop type thing with the hyway. but at a much later time. @storms991, I just started this cj less than 24 hours ago so thats why it hasn't been updated, I will try and update as often as possible. @simster6, yeah I want see what development looks like too, but I'm gonna do the road layouts first and then develope too make the region look more realistic. About the whole two highway systems, I'm gonna put in the green line now, develope the city and then do like a, like the big dig type thing like boston did on this city. well I'm gonna go work on this region now so stay tuned....

***EDIT*** THIS CJ HAS BEEN STOPED. THERE IS SOME PICS SO ENJOY WHAT IS HERE. IF YOU'D LIKE MORE VISIT Avondale ***EDIT*** This is just gonna be a simple photo city journal. no bells and whistles. I haven't built a region before so this is what I will try to attempt to do. Okay so here we go This is the city of Hampton(oh btw I haven't named anything so far so i'll just refer to them by generic terms) Aerials Downtown Stadium Well known Shopping center Industry + future midtown area High School + Sounth Shore Drive, where the rich live and play(okay well I named that one) I found this one funny I've only played this city/region for 1 day so alot still has to be done. so what do you think?
  3. Hampton

Unfortunatly I can't continue this CJ due to the limitations of my computer. The amount of trees and the size of the city kept on crashing my computer. However I just started a new CJ, Avondale , so check it out. sorry for the termination of this CJ.
  4. Oh sorry Its a Tapwave Zodiac 2 running PalmOS. Tapwave flopped so ebay is the only place you can find them, I think maybe a company called Olympic System also sells refurb ones too, but not 100% on that one. I'm running an emulator of snes, and thats sc2000 for snes. its a tad bit slow(probaly like 8-9 / 10 of full speed) but it's very very playable once again sorry for the bad quality oh and the grip thing(if your wondering) was a old ps1 controller that I hacked apart.
  5. sim city headding rural?

yeah me too, my computer can't handle big cities either.
  6. Hampton

Okay well Hamptinians Love their green spaces so here is the new park in hampton: North Heights Park featuring softball fields, a public pool with water slides, miles of wilderness pathways, playgrounds, a gazeboo, and plenty of parking. Here is what the City looks like now: And here is what my plans are for hampton

thanks for the compliments guys. I'm at a point where I don't think I can continue with this city. Let me expand on this. I have a 3.0 ghz ht processor, 512mb ram computer with no graphics card and the game crashes within 15-20mins of play. I disable all the system processes except the needed ones, no virus scanners, nothing. I have the game at 800x600, all low settings except texture and thats at medium. all the other settings are off except the color cursor I believe. and it still dies on me(the game not the computer). 1. is it better for me to have the hardware or software handle the graphics(there's an option in options window)? I think my computer has a graphics chip, its a 6-8 month old dell dimension 3000 i do believe. 2. is it the size of the city that is crashing the game? it a medium sized city and as you can see its not a very big city. 3. what should i do? after like 15-20 mins of play it'll crash. it'll usually crash when I zoom out. HELP!!! lol. I hope I don't have to go back to making suburban style cities. ****EDIT**** well it's playable with it crashing maybe like once in a 45-60min frame but its with the texture and detail at low. wow it's incredibly fugly. I can wing it I guess

Okay here is the new Tamminey Park. Plenty of parking featuring tennis courts, basketball courts, a plaza, playgrounds, a large and small pond with surrounding green spaces. also included is a pedestrian overpass with access to a bus stop and parking. and here is a new pic of the downtown area. alot of the tallish buildings on the lower left side were demolished because they were a little too tall. so here is a little more pleasing dt area.

Thanks for the compliments Cjah, jacqulina, Sisu, Equilibria, mtbrocket, and cammo2003. @Equilibria: 1) I don't know about slope mods either, I do plan on leveling out the land slightly where the buildings are. Its kinda hard to see in the previous pics but I have used retaining walls in a couple of places, Here are some pics of retaining walls Here's a cool pic of that high school at a different angle @Equilibria: 2)Yeah I haven't really named anything due to lazyness on my part but I do plan on naming stuff once I get the city going a little more. Thanks for the tips @cammo2003: Yeah I used photoshop to resize the pics and saved them at 11/12 quality. The reason why they were at different sizes and blurred was because of my ignorance. There's a setting in photobucket that is set to default 256kb max size, and the pics were around 400-500kb so photobucket resized them. it's not a problem anymore and the pics were fixed. I used to use ImageShack alot but they lost alot of my pics before so then I switched to photobucket. I've been using photobucket for like a half year and I haven't experienced any problems. Its a bit slow uploading and the max file size is 512kb but it's been very reliable so far. I still use ImageShack too but only for larger files, Too my knowledge I don't think they can display the pic on a forum or whatever and that is a minus but its a good host too. Here's my next task in the city of hampton, a park. so stay tuned
  10. McMansions Discussion Thread

someone said imagine thousand and thousands of mcmansions.... That sounds like my neighborhood, well actually Hometown, except that we're not on a grid. My Hometown is expected to have a little over 3,000 homes. 300,000 to 1+ mill. it started in the early early 90's and is still under development, i think it's suppose to finish in 2010. I know what your thinking, houses houses houses houses houses after houses and houses and houses..... but my hood is actually pleasant to the eyes. it has mcmansions(alot of em) it has small lots(my house and 3 others share a back yard) id say about half of em has a decent back yard and others are like mine. but it also has perserved green spaces, a man-made lake and a natural lake that is gonna be turned into a county park, it has a private golf course. it's a hilly terrain so houses follow the contours and i'd say that there's maybe like 2-5 intersections in a 100-200 neighborhood. there's like 20-25 hoods in the home town. of and there's a 3-4 mile long avenue(like in sc4) inside the hood. If done right Mcmansion hoods can look very very good. although there is areas(mainly the older hoods) where the actually mcmansions look plain. i'll try and find pics.
  11. you get what you pay for. yes in general. But the thing that strikes me is that google=simplicity. maybe they're computer will be built around web browsing(i.e. google). You wouldn't need gobs of ram and a huge hd and massive graphics capabilities to make a cheap well built computer built around web browsing, if that's what they're going for. plus they'll probaly sell it as is, no monitor, no printers, no bells and whistles. the wal-mart thing: If the goal of google is to produce a cheap computer built around the web, where do you think the best place to sell it is? at some expensive mall or store where people most likely already have computers or at an inexpensive store where most likely a sizable market will be?
  12. Simcity 4 ONLINE Released!

Need I say more? quote> yes, alot more.
  13. Whats your favorite skyline in America?

Atlanta doesn't seem to get alot of recognition for it's buildings so i'll post alot. oh fyi atlanta is the third tallest city after chicago n nyc. 6th tallest skyscraper in the US. DT Do you want Mid town and suburb buildings? alt has alot of buildings flanking atl in the burbs
  14. I don't know about all the other freeway intersections but this one is by far the scariest one to drive on. spagetti junction(sp?) its the 85/285 junction in ne atl metro area. do you see the semi up on the top ramp. thats like 100 feet up in the air. there's like 4/5 stacked ramps. it's literally like a roller coaster. scary as he'll.
