A few times (many years ago) I have spent like 30+ hours straight playing games (with small breaks to eat now and then) This was at LAN-parties

Hillary Clinton to take on Rockstar over Hot Coffee
ADG replied to the_new_simman's topic in Gaming Talk
EDIT: Stupid double post -
And I have another game that should be nominated as the worst game ever at least... it sure is the worst adventure game ever Anyone here played Lula 3D? No? Good for you, you didn't miss anything interesting. This game breaks all rules of what makes an adventure game at least playable: First of all it's 3D (3rd person), and since it's a poor company who made it, the graphics are awful. This part is not important but still adds to the overall gaming experience Because the game is in 3D it open up the possibility to make larger maps than normal 2D adventure games... unfortunatly they also used this new possibility, so walking from one part of the map (for each round) takes a long time. Sure they included a run option (not activated by default, but at least I found it before I started the game), but that doesn't help much since she only runs very little faster than when she walks Because of the above problem I had to read a walkthrough completely for one specific round. This was a map where only very few active objects, but a distance between these objects that is longer than most rounds. After running through the map to see where these objects are located I quickly realized that if I made a small mistake (read: went to a wrong location at the wrong time) that would take several minutes just for the running part before I realized I should go in the opposite direction. Since I at that time already was tired of this game I decided to read the walkthrough to avoid mistakes In many of the levels it required you to go to far away point 1 to get an item, get back to where you where, then go back to that point again and then back again, and then etc etc etc... 90% of the time wasted on the game was wasted on running instead of actually thinking about the puzzles Oh, and the puzzles wasn't exactly thinking puzzles but more like the typical find object A, use it at location B, then talk to a person puzzles... Here the 3D part of the game starts to annoy because when walking around and stands infront of an active object a text is displayed on the screen... or at least it's supposed to, but often it fails so you end up missing important objects the first couple of time you walk by Also as I said the default view is 3rd person, but you can activate 1st person in the game (by pressing space). This helps a lot because (a) Often objects are hidden behind the character, only viewable in 1st person and (b) the character is one hell of an ugly character unless you likes blonde white girls with clothes that puts prostitutes to shame... the problem here is that every time you do something (except walking) it goes back to 3rd person view I could go on forever, but I guess it's time to stop, I've already lost most (if not all) people who started reading this But at least if the story was just a little bit interesting some of the problems in the game could have been overlooked, but story is probably the most boring story ever

Off topic: For Settlers II fans: I've heard there's an unofficial XP in the making for the game. Some fans decided to add some missing features to the game. But since they don't have the source code it's diffecult to do what they want to do, I have no idea how they're trying to do it IIRC they want to add a better trade system and MP among other features AFAIK this XP will be in German though And I have no idea when it's planned to be done, I don't have the link to their site anymore

Date: 7/21/2005 9:42:33 AM Author: horrorkid64 Just to clarify the ratings: MATURE Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and/or strong language. ADULTS ONLY Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity. GTA:SA had been rated M ealier. For more information go to the ESRB site: http://www.esrb.org/esrbratings_guide.aspquote> That still doesn't give any reason why GTA SA should be rated AO, just because of the coffee mod I probably wouldn't have complained if the game had been rated AO without the leftovers, but what enrages me is that this small coffee game can make that change Ok, I haven't tried that mod myself, but I tried to imagine the worst case scenario, and even then I can't see how that mod could change the game from M to AO

So they don't mind their 18 year olds to play a game where you can drive around downtown at full speed killing lots of people because of the driving, and then get out of the car to shoot a lot more innocent people (including police) with lots of different weapons. But as soon as it includes just a little softcore (I guess?) sex scenes you have to be much older than 18 to play it?

I'd love to see Big Rigs just to see how bad it actually is, but I'm not going to pay for it The worst game ever award has to go to the game Heritage of the kings, a.k.a. The Settlers V. The game itself is just a standard game ala AoE (except worse, but it has lot incommon), but the thing that makes me vote for this game as the worst ever is because of it's name. I mean I love The Settlers I and II, III and IV was ok, but V has NOTHING incommon with any Settlers game: - The Settlers has always been cartoonish, but V is realistic - The Settlers has always had goods visibly moved from point A to B, while V just has the standard RTS rule where goods just appears in the stats, but never visible in the game - The Settlers has always had stone and wood to build houses, but in V there's many more types of goods required to build houses while they don't have any differences (and doesn't really make it more realistic) - The Settlers has always had gold/iron/coal mines in the mountains, V doesn't really use mountains like that - The Settlers has always had someone to search for minerals in the mountains so you'd know where to build a mine, V just has the few possible mines visible during the game - The Settlers has always been dynamic where you could choose out of almost unlimited options where to build the buildings, in V most buildings only has very few places to be built I could go on forever, but I guess I'd better hold now... I'm still waiting for the sequel to The Settlers II

Date: 6/23/2005 8:59:36 PM Author: momo Most recent worst game ever, Rise of Nations.quote> But the game did what it was supposed to do, make a 'connection' between RTS and TBS games And it sure is much better than aoe games That the game doesn't have walls is one of the better part of the game, I would hate to see this game with walls. AFAIK there's a mod to this game that includes walls, I have no idea how 'great' it is though And you mention that you don't like the cap; You know it's very easy to mod this so there's no cap (or at least set the cap to 999 instead), but again I like this in the game. If you have a cap then the game is not about getting the highest number of units as in most RTS games, but instead it's about using your units the best way possible (of course the game is not some tactical game so it doesn't go too far either) And what's wrong with attrition and city assimilation? How could you make this better in an RTS game? The game is supposed to be finished in a few hours, so if you make city assimilation be too complicated and take too long it'll take a too long time to finish a game (most people don't like MP games to last more than 90 minutes). And the purpose it has is that you can't just attack all cities quickly after each other since newly taken cities are more easy to take back for the enemy. If you just leave the city to attack another one you'll sure lose the city again. Of course if you're playing against an too easy enemy they probably wont try to take it back, which renders the feature pointless And I'd say attrition is done well in this game. It has a huge effect on your units, so if you're not careful your units will die quickly And I could go on with the rest of the points too, but I don't want to continiue with the threadjack. It's not like I'll be able to change your mind anyway To get back on topic: One of the worst games I've ever played I have to mention a game called American Dream. The game itself was about building a fastfood franchise (sp?). Not really a new idea, but who cares about that. The problem with the game was the ordering system, you manually had to order the food yourself, but you couldn't just order say 500 units of whatever you need, you could only click on buttons that said like 1 unit, 5 units, 10 units or something like that. The problem was that they sold the food faster than I could click on the buttons. And this was in the beginning of the game where I had the smallest fastfood restaurant you could get. There was not much point in getting any larger restaurants since I couldn't order any faster (oh, and this was on the slowest setting)

I was wondering if people around here would be interested in an online (forum-game) version of a game that kinda reminds you of Clue(edo)? I don't have Clue(edo) myself, so I'm not 100% sure about the specific rules about that game, but the game I have (physical board game ) is a game where the basics are the same AFAIK. For those who don't know it: Some person has been murdered, and the players has to find clues around the board about why, when, where, who and how this person was killed The game I use is Titanic (I don't know if this is a game only known in Denmark), where you walk around on Titanic and now you have the last day before it sunk to find out everything about the murder. The winner is the first player who gets all correct information about the murder. If the time runs out all players has to pm me their guesses, and the one who guess most information correct wins the game I'll gm this game, so I wont be playing myself... Anybody interested? (More in dept rules will follow later, if there's any interest in this game) -------------------------------- Player list: simcity_498 horrorkid64 Rymac91 Ю

Let's see I had GTA 3 on the PC, looked great and played great Then I got Vice City to the PC, looked better, gameplay was both better and worse. I specially loved the helicopter part, I probably spent more time flying around than actually play the game Now I have (for Gods sake read 'borrowed'... I would never buy one) a PS2 and San Andreas. I've now had it for about 2 months... time spent playing SA: Less than 4 hours I could never get used to those controls. Those were the suckiest controls I've ever played, I mean it would be easier for me to play billard blindfolded and I've only played billard once in my life And to top it all off, it even looked much worse than GTA 3 looks (on the PC) I'm really looking forward to play the game on a real computer... games like GTA are ment to be played with keyboard and mouse

I remember having seen several videos of the game and it looked awsome... sure, the graphics is a big outdated now (the game was set to be released in 2001 IIRC) but they still look great And I love the adult theater called SIX AM (when the town is in a bad mood) and MAXIS (when it's all going well) I remember back when it was cancelled I kept complaining on the maxis' forums for about 6 months or so before I got tired Shortly after it was cancelled I read some comments by some Maxis workers (or so they said) who had tried the beta and they were shocked to see the game got cancelled. Maxis' official reason of cancelling it was (quoting from memory) it didn't live up to our gaming standards, it just wasn't fun enough

But it does sound like they stole my 1-2 year old idea (or at least parts of it) about being able to create life and let it 'evolve', though my idea is more deep while their idea is more wide This game doesn't seem to be much useable for MP, while my game works nice in MP
-
Make sure to read this: http://www.gamespy.com/articles/595/595975p1.html It's not the game itself that is interesting, but the engine behind the game sounds awsome if it's true what he says Could probably become useable in many other games in the future

Cool, one more player Btw, the colors in the picture isn't all the colors avaliable (just to make sure everybody knows)
-
So far only horrorkid64 has responded to my pm, so it seems like this game probably wont start (still possible for new players to join if they wish though) Please post in this thread on which player wants what color so we can get this game going
-
Any questions (pm sent out to wake up everybody)

Rules: ---Move--- At the beginning of each turn I'll pm the dice for each player . simcity_498 is first, horrorkid64 is second and Rymac91 is last. The first player then posts where he wants to go. As soon as this has happened the second player may post the destination and then the 3rd player may do so Be aware that the stairs are 2 areas (so if you're standing just before the stairs your dice should hit at least 3 to get to the other d

Here's a list on where you can find the cards: ---D

Ok, I didn't manage to make a non-scanned version of the board game, so I scanned it instead: (the red, green and yellow 'things' are the different players... now is the time for you to pick the colors) To avoid copyright issues I believe it would be best if someone could do a non-scanned version of it, since my skills are not good enough for that... or if nobody cares we could just go on and use the above one? --------------------- Each player should now make a list with this: Who (red): -Diplomat -Producer -Gambler -Widdow -Singer -Salesperson Why (orange): -Envy -Blackmail -Dept -Hate -Revenge -Insane Weapon (blue): -Axe -Poison -Knife -Pistol -Robe -Statue Where (green): -Bar -Library -Outside -Gymnastics room -Smokers Lounge -Swimmingpool When (yellow): -20.00 - 21:00 -21.00 - 22:00 -22.00 - 23:00 -23.00 - 24:00 -24.00 - 1:00 -1.00 - 2:00 (those are the best translations I could get... if you have a better translation for some of these things please share) Whenever a player gets a card I tell them what the card says and the player then strikes from the card whatever I told them... one card of each color is blank so you (probably) wont get information each time you get a card When a player gets a card the card is in his (or her) belongings (which I'll keep track on who has what card). Later I'll explain how one player can get a card from another player (more to come)
-
I'll pm the other players when the game starts. I'll try to make a digital (non-scanned) version of the board game tomorrow and will then show some examples on how the game works in more details
-
Bumping this game one last time in hope the last player will be found
-
About the dice I could find another way (if you don't trust me to be neutral): I could buy a webcam and throw the dice when at least one player is online, though I'm not sure which timezone you're all from, so it might not be possible
-
Great, two players I'll try to write a little more about the rules (I'll try to create the board soon... I hope it's going to be within a few days, but because of other complications I might not have time for it) Each player has a paper with what they have found out. On this paper is written what the player knows about the murder and will be updated each time the player gets some new information As mentioned in OP it's divided into 5 categories (time, suspect, reason for killing, weapon and place). Each category has it's own color (time = yellow*, etc) For each category there's 6 possible choices* and 6 cards of each color on the ship (to be collected from different rooms). 5 of the cards says one of the choices is wrong, the last card is empty. If you have the 5 correct cards for one color you're sure what time the murder happened (or whatever categori it's about) The game is played with a dice, but since I don't gain anything from cheating (since I'm the gm) I don't see no reason why I can't roll the dice myself and post the info here... though if someone can find a better way it would be nice... *I don't have the board game with me at the moment, so I don't remember the colors for each category, and might remember wrong about the number of choices, but it's as close as I remember

We would only need at least 3 players to play this game, so we're only 2 short
