Building Tileset Project v2.0 Project Goal:- Redefine the foundation of Simcity 4 RH to have clean, defined architectural styles that represent significant era's in city development. What will this achieve? Well, when you begin a new city and wish to allow for only 1 tileset at a time, for example, 1880's Chicago, then no longer will you have modern looking buildings popping up. What tileset you choose will define EXACTLY how your city looks. Ideally, this allows a player to begin cities at a given time in history (or present) and build the city over time. How is this done? Thanks to iLive Reader & SC4 Tool (2 fantastic and invaluable utilities, I might add) I assess and assign each original RCI building into it's appropriate tileset. The only file I need to alter in the modding process in simcity_1.dat. Now this is a large file, so I will have to look into possible methods of making this smaller for download somehow. (Suggestions?) Tilesets? Like so... Chicago = 'Classical' Any form of architectural style pre late 1890's, where elevators began to transform buildings, along with then-modern ways of thinking in the ways buildings would look. New York = 'Art Deco' Not just Art Deco, but the Arts & Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau & Art Moderne/Streamline Moderne styles. Late 1890's - 1940's. Houston = 'Modern' Born out of the Bauhaus in the Art Deco era, but popularised in the 1950's-1980's, the Modern era is a brutal-edged approach to style. Euro = 'Postmodern' Embracing at times foundations of the Bauhaus movement, it can be minimal, softly brutal, but with a clean, sleeker modern edge. A style popularised from the 1990's until present. Future Additions:- I'm calling on all Building Architects to jump on board this great project to modify their buildings to suit the updated tileset. Together we can make a far superior game than we've ever played before.

Richter Belmont:- It's not 'that' hard or complex.... just time consuming.. and alot of data-recording in Excel! Jasoncw:- I'm not changing every single one, if a building is in it's right tileset, then no change is necessary. If a building is in the wrong tileset, then I make the change. A common problem I'm finding, is alot of buildings are assigned to 2,3 and sometimes all tilesets... where the buildings really only need to a part of one. BIWDC:- At this point I have no idea how to get this mod downloadable. I have been playing SWG quite a bit, and 100+ mb game updates are nothing new to me. So I'm sure some will want to download this, just for the hell of it... but yes, I feel for the dial-up'ers of the SC4 world. Kwakelaar:- Yes, I think it was tropod who brought out that mod. But, it is of no use to me. I want the maxis buildings corrected into the right tilesets, not pushed into one. That way, if i start on say, the post-modern tileset, I'll grow a city that has only postmodern buildings. However, if tropod could do that, perhaps he has some insight for me. Although I'm a little skeptical, since correcting 300 odd buildings i think will be far more complex than a 'all go to one tileset' type thing. Sorry about the delayed reply. Civ 4 came out (hehe), I've recently upgraded my computer and also had some issues to contend with... stay tuned.

I cannot open iLive Reader! I've download several versions, the latest, older ones and also from different mirrors and for the life of me (and I reckon I'm fairly competent with computers) I cannot find an executable file. I've checked the omnibus and guides, and all they ever say is 'open iLive Reader'... but how!!!?!?!?!

Yes well I've sort of look into this, and I think it was andreas in another who had another post where he stipulated that Houston was 0x00002002 and so on... One problem, I cannot open iLive Reader! I've download several versions, the latest, older ones and also from different mirrors and for the life of me (and I reckon I'm fairly competent with computers) I cannot find an executable file. I've checked the omnibus and guides, and all they ever say is 'open iLive Reader'... but how!!!?!?!?! Now, I've gotten my hands on the SC4 Tool.. which is the perfect utility for this. Instead of myself having to go into the game and categorise each RCI building into Tilesets that I see fit... is there anywhere that has pictures of each building so I can speed up the process? Once that's done, and I can open iLive Reader.. I take it I can mod the existing buildings and then upload the necessary files here?
