  1. Windows 8 arrives amid serious concerns from PC game devs

I use win7 x64 and so far have had no issues with it. It will play just about any game I can throw at it. I think the world of gaming has been slowly changing and it is just recently that it is showing up in the news. Portable gaming is getting to be the rage. You can play games on your tab or smart phone anywhere you are at. These games are the casual games, but it seem that is what is wanted. Lets face it, when the captain turns off the seat belt sign and then everyone pulls out there tab or phone and commences to play. The way of the future in games is coming and is here.
  2. Sim city 2013 will support mods. just not at launch

For myself I am not getting to excited about sc5. One could read all kinds of things between the lines. The good, the bad and the disgusting. So I am sitting back and taking the wait and see process.
  3. Cities XL is NOT an MMO

Unless you consider the internet a game, its not an MMOG. Your also forgetting that MMO is not a genre... MMORPG would be a genre, and so would MMOCB. Completely different genres. I agree with the above statement. So with that said it is time to go back to my mmorpg addiction and gather some iron ore and extract some material and build a new sword so I can beat up on some miners in the mine. So if anyone is looking for me I will be up to my ears in a fight of my life and they will just have to come and find me. O and bring some beer. Chow Originally posted by: niloluiz Looking exclusively from this angle you are correct. However the term genuine MMO invokes a broader definition in what CXL doesn't fit, at least compared with the average gameplay standard of the MMOs available today. The "interaction" is the same of a hipotetical public chat room that have animated/3d avatars on a virtual 3d room representation of the traditional chat list. It has thousands of people "interacting" on the same server, the chat rooms can be permanent, but that doesn't make this sophisticated chat room into a MMO. So far, with the exception of the trade mechanism (which includes the blueprint/megastructures system) and the visit mode that transform the city on a 3D chat room, there's no other MMO gameplay aspect. And those aspects represents a slim portion of the gameplay. 90%+ of all the on-line gameplay is pure solo-play that require no interaction whatsoever. When and if this changes, then we can call CXL a authentic MMO, on the broader definition of the term.quote> A public chat room that has animated or 3d avatars in a virtual 3d room IS an MMO. How do you fail to understand that? Go check out Second Life. The game really is a giant sophisticated chat room, and yes its considered an MMO. You also clearly havn't made a city of over like 50,000 people, because once you get there, and especially above 100,000, unless you can be completely self sufficient the game relies heavily on the trading system. The only way to make a ton of money is through exports, and the only way to get certain things is through imports if your not on a balanced map. Obviously in the beginning there is no trade, there isn't supposed to be trade. The beginning is supposed to be easy, but when you make a big city its very possible to have over 100 trade contracts. quote>
  4. It was rushed out because the capital investors that gave Monte Cristo 7 million dollars last July 2008 were starting to beat their fist on the conference table. 15 months went by and most likey went through the money and had very little to show for it. So the saga of Monte Cristo moves onward and who knows to what end.
  5. Soldyne's Demo Review

I am sure you are correct on any changes if any. MC is already on the edge. 0 to 12 months is a good time frame for dev for a descent game, 13 to 15 months you are going to start to get nervous and the people with the money are going to get ants in their pants and start walking the halls. Once you reach 18 months or longer you are going to start to lose money and then the resources are really going to get tight. That might be one reason MC bumped the release date up, pressure from the ones walking the hallways and checking the bank accounts. Now remember different companies all have different needs. What may work for one may not for the other. Also another thing that helps is just how deep are the bank accounts. So timing will always be different. MMO's take a longer time to dev but still have a time frame and dead lines to meet and it all boils down to money and resources. So lets just wait and see what happens and see how MC handles this.
  6. Soldyne's Demo Review

I ran into the graphical problems also at 1680 x 1050. The fonts and boxes are so small that you can not read them very well. It appears that MC forgot to scale up the UI as the screen resolution goes up. Also I think that there is some problems with the graphics when running in SLI configuration, the frame rate is taking a hit. I switched out of SLI and the frame rate improved. The Demo is the only game I have that ran into where I had to switch out of SLI. SC4 plays nicely in SLI , as well as many other 2D and 3D games I have and the MMO's play nicely also. Such as WOW, EVE and the up and coming AION (beta). Not sure what the solution is. More dev time and testing might be one answer.
  7. Demo version released ~ For all those that can't wait

Same here, the demo is not working. I am using Xp Pro with Sp3 and the demo seems to have a issue with this version of windows. Most likely no big deal, I am not much for MMO's anyway. Thanks
  8. Windows 7 Beta

Very good. I think tomorrow I will remove SC4 and reinstall just to make sure that I didn't missed something. Thanks
  9. Windows 7 Beta

Thanks for the link, was some interesting reading. I think one has to conclude that it is a beta OS and with beta drivers, there will be problems. So far it has been really stable, no BSOD, thats a change for the better. So the best thing to do is to wait and see how things go with Win 7. I will stick to Xp Pro, since I have been using it forever with almost no problems. For information, the Win 7 was installed on a test computer as a fresh install, no upgrade. For myself I have found over the years that upgrading over the top of another Os can lead to problems. Others have had no problems, so thats the way the old world goes. Thanks
  10. Has anyone been able to get Simcity 4 Deluxe to run in Windows 7 ? I have tried the compatibilty selections and running in admin mode. So far no luck. The various drivers are also beta. Video, motherboard, sound, etc. Thanks
