I have a city of 1.3 million with and 500,000 commercial pop. I have subway/bus stop road top mass transit on avenues all over the city. The subways are all connected with the subway rail but not one sim is using the damn subway! they use the busses but not the subway. I honestly must have a hundred well placed stops. Ive never seen a problem like this before. Anyone have any ideas?

My medium-high density buildings are not evolving :(
ace41690 replied to Homeless_Hobo's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Is there any demand for Industrial Manufacturing or High Tech??? Maybe you need to zone some more industry, i find that in my cities when the Commercial demand turns down, the industrial demand is sky high. Then if i zone more industry, the commercial demand swings up again. Also it seems like your city would have horrible traffic since I see mainly roads, no avenues or one ways. Also you should maybe put in a subway system. Its no use having a bunch of jobs if your sims cant get to them quickly and efficiently. -
I have a Dell Laptop.....its old..... Pentium4M@1.8Ghz 1Gb ddr 266 ram Geforce 4 440 Go graphics card with 32Mb memory Run it on 1600X1200 resolution, with everything else turned on High. ..........Performance is Mediocre at best, but the gig of ram helps.............

Poll: How many people start a mass transit system at the begining of a city?
ace41690 replied to sean9721's topic in SC4 Showcase
If I'm planning a super-city, then I usually plan ahead. I DONT place the MT at first (Xcept train tracks, their cheap) because its not necessary. I leave two unzoned tiles right next to eachother at every intersection where my high density zones are going to be. Then, once I have a large population, I put the bus system in. Once more is needed or i have enough $, I lay the subway down. Its really easy even if you get a skyscraper jungles because you left a space for it right from the beginning, no need to buldoze. And the sims seem to like the bus stop being right next to the subway station. -
When do you start seeing skyscrapers
ace41690 replied to willthefalcon's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
You need more population from the looks of it, the higher the population the bigger the commercial buildings get. Also does your city have an airport? Airports increase commercial demand. Place plazas, enact ordinances like "Tourism Promotion", and make a lot of mass transit like busses and especially subways to your commercial areas. And of course make sure your zoning High Density. To get the biggest buildings you need zones that are 4x4 tiles. You should start seeing residential skyscrapers as soon as you have a population around 30000 or higher. Make sure to place parks and provide medical/educational/fire/police coverage. **** Yes its irritating to have people asking the same questions all the time, but thats what a forum is for. Since this is such a common topic, perhaps a sticky should be created. -
I just bought another 512 megs of memory for my laptop, this will bring the total memory to 1gb. What kind of performance improvement can i expect. It is pc2100 ddr ram. The laptop is slow as far as the processor and video card goes. Only a 1.8ghz and 32mb card. With these poorer specs can upgrading the memory improve things that much? I have a city of 500thousand and its very very slow.

I would just like to say that I finally got the upgrade and now have 1gb ram. The difference is AMAZING! M city of 500k zooms in and out in seconds. And when i put the game up to full speed it runs through a month in less than 10 seconds!!!! It used to take up to a minute for just a day to go by sometimes. Also That city is running in the background at this very moment, what I'm doing now used to be impossible. It would take five minutes before for the computer to be able to minimized SC4 and open something else. It does it in seconds now! Task manager shows SC4 eating up 600MB of ram and it can go right ahead and do it because theres still 150 left over! Anyone thinking of going for the gig do it!

Once i start to get 2nd degree burns I will usually decide its time to stop playing
-
Yes. It will look like this Pretend each D represents a square DDDD DDDD DDDD DDDD Obviously in the game it wont be so rectangular, but it is 4 squares down and four across.
-
Im not sure whether it takes advantage of 2 cores now that you mention it. Needless to say, that processor is still pretty good even if SC4 only uses 1 core.
-
The reason it runs so good is 1) You have a dual core processor 2) Amd processors are more efficient than Intel, a 2ghz Amd will easilly match or beat a 3ghz Pentium 4. Thats a very good computer.

Well I only have so much money and upgrading the ram seems to be the most sensible thing to do since i cant afford a completely new laptop. I think it probably will help, when i look in task manager SC4 eats over 500Megs of memory at some times. I'm not upgrading it solely for SC4 so if it doesnt spectacularly increase its performance thats ok. Besides I got a sweet deal, only 32$ for a 512MB stick.

My Laptop Intel Pentium 4M @ 1.8ghz, 512k L2 cache, 400Mhz FSB 640MB ddr 266 ram 32MB Nvidia Gforce4 440 Go 20GB HD Windows XP Professional Game runs on highest settings for everything. Strangely, despite how old this laptop is, the game has never crashed. Ive played on much more powerful machines and the game crashes on them, I dont really know why. I play a city of 500 thousand and it does lag quite a bit though.

dont you just love how SC4 crashes if you make an awesome city?
ace41690 replied to Sharaz's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
ya know i think the problem with the crashing has to do with memory. For example i used to run sc4 on a p4 2.8ghz 512 machine. if you look at the task manager while playing the game there was always pretty much no memory available. Thus the game crashed constantly. I now have a laptop thats older, a pentium 4 m (NOT pentium M) at 1.8, but it has 640 megs of ram instead of 512. And honestly it runs the game smoother than the p4 2.8 and it is still yet to crash even while playing cities with 250000 people. I think that sc4 seems to depend much more on the amount of memory rather than the processor or even the graphics card!(laptop has 32mb graphics card, desktop had 128mb)
