Just a small update... I was going threw different areas of Edmonton adding some flora and diagonal streets when I figured I would snap a picture or two of areas that haven't been seen for a long time. I was going to re-do the Whitemud Drive - FOx Drive interchange with NAM but the original Sim City is fairly close to the real thing. I added the dirt road and dirt parking lot to the head of the Whitemud Creek trail system. Aswell as the foot bridge that goes just beyond the ranch. Anyone from Edmonton who hasn't been down Whitemud creek should give it a go. There is alot of very old growth forrest in the valley. And you can't even tell you are sarrounded by a city of 1million...

Edmonton, Nov 8th... Falcon49 : It's always great when I get views and people reading it from anywhere, but I especialy like seeing people from Edmonton come across it. Edmontonians can truely see how accurate some areas are... Tbar220 : Thanks for taking your time going threw the Journal page by page. I can tell you it only gets better as you go on. As the city begins to take shape and roads begin completion it starts to gain momentum. Helomoto : It's nice to see you back and on the CJ. One thing though.... this being Edmonton true...but Oilers lol, Go Devils. Vegata : Keep posted I should have an update soon. It's just deciding what area to show... 2005 Trixies : For anyone on Simtropolis please take your time to nominate people for different catagories. If you feel this city journal has earned a trixie for its years of work please drop a nomination. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Edmrd2.JPG align=baseline> Edmonton Full Size Region Views Updated Full Size Sat View : http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/3622/edmsat15cp.jpg Full Size Road View :

Oborro : It mainly takes time. You pick up new skills when recreating after doing it so long lol. Spacenuteskimo : The Edmonton metro area is 1,014,000. And my recreation is at 500,000+ so far. I should be well over the real amount.

Vigo_Zerox : This is going to go on forever. So what your saying is there redeveloping that area.... Becuase I know they are building alot of new houses in that area. But as far as any map on the net, store shelves, or google earth shows..... 50th Street is straight. But so where alot of other roads before new developement sarounded them. And are they currently doing this, planning on doing it, or is that in full use. I have been at the intersection just south of there within the last month. And I didn't look north to note any change?
  8. City of EDMONTON

This is getting old fast... Ok...lets say he is thinking of this intersection....the damn thing is still straight. North of it the damn street is straight for 36,534ft and 5inches. All the way to Highway 37 where it hits a T intersection. Which again is well off my map. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//stupidfn50thst.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//stupidfn50thst%202b.JPG align=baseline>

Feepa : I said a turn for the west in regaurds to the LRT, not an entire route to the west end of the city. With the new McEwen College boom going on and the redevelopement along the old rail tracks. Aswell as the plans for all of the areas along 104th avenue and north a few blocks and StationLands. They have put an idea forward to run the LRT along 104th in this new developement. It would service the College and probably end there. This is what I seen on the news a month or two ago coming from the mayors mouth. Here is a map of the area. These are all things city council is looking at. And are not set in motion plans yet. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//104th.JPG align=baseline> The redevelopement area currently is R$ Cs$ areas. And should have new shops put in place with plaza's, trails, green space, fountains, different sized appartment buildings... Vigo_Zerox : After Ajs put a map up showing that.... It is correct? I don't see why or how you don't get that 50th Street is straight from 153rd avenue all the way to Highway 37 where it ends at a T intersection. Highway 37 is well of my map. It is a straight stretch the whole way. You could probably watch your dog run away along it for a good hour. But I guess I'll need some more maps or pictures to convince you, so... here goes... https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//50th%201.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//50th%202.JPG align=baseline>

Rendar : I am pretty sure Stationlands will be built. Its a garantee. The only issue is when. I have heard about this project since last century... and even then it was said to be in ten years. Now that most of that time is up and downtown is booming with new life it should be a shoe in to break ground within 18months. But this is only my opinion on the matter. Plus the 104st to 111st area is about ot get a major new look to it. With talk of the LRT making a turn for the west up there. I finally think that those who are in high places in Edmonton are realizing they have to begin planning for a very large scale city with a bright and long future ahead. This new developement should take out some of the R$ 3 story appartments and replace them with an upscale feel of that area. Don't be surprised in 10yrs to see the 97th St. area and west be cleaned up and a new life enter that part of the city.

ajs : Thanks.... I don't need anymore maps, beyond my map and google there isn't anything I can't see now. But this is very handy to show Vigo_Xerox exactly what I mean about 50th st. This is is a 3rd map showing I am right and it continues straight. By all means I am happy with people finding mistakes it is a big help. And obviously like anyone I make them. However probably 90% of these that people point out are correct and made as they should be. Yet I still have to look up the area in the region, cross it with several maps and double check to see if anything needs alterations. If someone is going to point something out. Make sure it's an actual mistake. jacqulina : thanks for your long post.

Vigo_Zerox... Thanks for looking over the CJ again and as always. As for the error you found in the 40,000km of roads.... I'm pretty sure its an error on your part. 50th Street on my 2yr old map, and google earth both show it going straight north all the way to highway 37. Which is a few km off of my map... But if there is an updated version I haven't seen? please pm me.... As far as StationLands goes. I wish that was the case. I haven't heard anything about that. And I don't know if thats the case. I do know there is no cranes in that area. Only a few future developement signs. Aswell I heard it could be several more years down th road before they break ground. And as for the LRT, they are fast tracking progress south which is a great move. I haven't heard anything about new LRT trains. But it wouldn't surprise me. Our current fleet is around 30yrs old. So time is due. Most of our busses have been replaced in the last 7yrs aswell.

    Shouldn't Duke87 have 100pts and not 11. Continent = 10 Points Nation = 20 Points City = 30 Points Bonus for all three = additional 40 Points

Simen : The reason I didn't share my map or scale is I doubt you could find my map. Its 2 or 3 years old now and the version I am using changes there scale each year. Here it is anyways... 1:27000 1cm = .27km So that being said there is approx. 54 or 55 lots to 1km in my region. With the standard SC scale being a small map 64 lots to 1km. The reason my map is a little bit smaller of a scale is the housing fits in alot better as such. If it was larger the houses would be a bit small for some of the city blocks. Caliban420 : Thanks for going threw the whole CJ lol. COuld take a while. If you ever do decide to make your hometown get in contact with me. I may be able to help. Where do you live by the way?

I noticed the dirt road mod aswell. It adds a nice touch to your rural areas. Aswell cycledoggs terrain mod is a good fit to this region and the water color is great too. In combination they give the region a rich feeling of colors. I'm still in search for that one terrain mod that will give me the color Ive always wanted. Cycledoggs is to rich of a green for mine. Keep up the work.

Strathcona Industrial... Still in the extremely early stages of developement. But I wanted to show an update on the progress. I know this is an industrial area that probably the only people who will know the accuracy all that well is the people who work there... but I still want to take good efforts at accuracy on any and every part of the city. As this area grows I will continue with updates. But as anyone knows... I jump from area to area in Edmonton while developing. This keeps me from getting bored and I find myslef already redoing many older made areas with new lots and stiles of handeling the recreation.
  19. City of EDMONTON

Strathcona Industrial Area.... This is a huge area of the east side of the city. With alot of it technicaly outside of the city borders. There is every single type of industry in this large barren area. Probably one of the uglier sides of Edmonton with large barren feilds. Huge refineries, oil tanks, warehouses, and stock yards from everything including kitchen sinks. This is one area where I'll need ploppable mods the most. Here are two very early pictures of the area. Any opinions on my new way of doing farms? I'm trying to mix the farm land, trees, and tall grass into a natural look... I was thinking of leaving the grass areas as the SC normal terrain.... but at the elevation I have the city built I'm not big on its shade of green...

Thanks Sub I know. I have random parking lots on stex of my own. This is alot larger of a request and in a different text. Just like the lots on the stex where you can have boats plopped down for your beaches to give them a real look I would like other props to do the same. Lets say you anted lamp post to line your parking lots. Or picninc table aranged on a balnk plaza. Or perhaps rows of cars that are slightly staggered. You could make things have a very neat or messy look at your own doing. Once I get my hands on a few of these ploppable props once made I will post pictures of exactly how usefull they are. I think they are a must in amny areas of my recreation and a great addition for others who can utilize them in different ways. It has potential to give many areas a new and unique look even from far out views of areas. A more full and realistic look.

Sloppet - I dont respond to many city journals. But this is one that keeps me coming back. It has a very european look. And gives a feeling that makes me want to live in any area of the region. Please keep this city journal growing and your interest in detail going.

Plopable Props And there use in SimCity4 I've been recently playing with the idea of having plopable props in SimCity. Having mayor mode props such as picnic tables, random cars, crates, people, or anything else would really add life to those areas that need it. And as a realistic city builder this is a muct for the crazy amount of detail I want. It's either this or make a million specific lots. Having some black 1x1 texture lots such as cement or grass then adding plopable props is a good way to start an use this mix. In the above post 6459978. has shown how this is possible. Now with addition efforts alot is possible for this game. It would also be a great benifit for the fact these items would go to one of the least used menus. A menu that had only props and trees to be placed would be a great addition to SimCity 4. I also believe with this beggining it will eventually take the stex by storm and many people will see a new way to customize there cities. I wish I had the means to create these myself. But for the time being I don't know how to. Until then this is in others hands. Please contact me if you are interested in helping. 6459978. has shown what is possible so far on a small scale. Here are some Industrial examples that show what I mean. And how creating a real city is near impossible accurately is nearly impossible without these additions.

Get involved...I have a few request. Things that are beyond my skills that I could use for the city. If anyone would like to contribute to the city please pm me.... - 1x1 grass lot(s) with 500 Ind jobs or 500 com jobs. To help employment and R$$ demand in the region. - 1x1 Rapheal Ninja's civic lots without the buildings. Currently I use these to supply all civic duties but they have tall towers on there 1x1 lots which look out of place in areas. If these where remade onto grass 1x1 lots they would be a great help for appearance. - 1x6 rail strip, transit enabled. For rail yards I need a 1x6 rail strip that looks the same as the regular rail. I will take it from there adding train cars to lot making 3 or 4 different sets. These inplace can go over exsisting rail to give areas with rail a realistic look with actual rail cars in place with a random but full look. - Ploppable Props!!! , this is my biggest request. God mode ploppable props. You could take blank plaza areas and have plopable props such as tables, art work, garbage bins, cars, you name it...or for industrial yards have plopabale crates, trucks, wood piles, anything. I find in many areas of industrial Edmonton there are open outdoor storage areas. Instead of recreating many many lots you could have these props to place to give a very random look aswell as realism. I think once a set of these ploppable props or two come out the Stex could take a new look with continued sets.... - And of coarse Edmonton Bats... I need a million buildings with any to choose from. Edmonton has some interesting or easy buildings for anyone who would like to bat. Add your touch to the 2004 most realistic CJ. Again reply if you can help...

Oilers1988 : I've started work on the Coliseum area. one reason I haven't show it yet is I need many more lots that fit the real thing before I relase one of its edits. Gingerblokey : If you do decide to your own hometown I'll be happy to help if you have any questions.
  25. found a cure for the plop mod bug!

lol, this is old knowledge. Rapheals final plop modd and forum on it says you must have a res grown in the space before one is plopped over it.
