Southwest Edmonton update : Mayor of Tempest Lake : The University of Alberta. Thats a great request and an area I'm looking forward to recreating. The Hub mall will be a challenge. I just need to find a building that will look good placed end to end for a few blocks. As for doing the University area I need to make a whole set of custom lots or find old style school buildings. The UofA being built in the early 1900's has many nice old style buildings. Its just finding the right mix to place for the proper look. I have some good maps of the areas aswell as some good arial pics that should help. I think later today I will go to the area and begin preping it. Since it has some commercial areas around it I can build up the areas residential aswell. I'm also going to ass the LRT stations aswell since over the next few years the rail will be expanding in that area. Keep posted and thanks for the request. This is what keeps the CJ going.

Just something I thaught would be neat. And a helper for those who have no idea where Edmonton is. Biggest lights on the Canadian praries.

I just logged in to see whats up. I see Sooner&RiceGrad has spammed half the CJ's on the first page of the city journals with odd advice for most?. He is intitle to his opinions as is everyone. I don't think Sooner knows the point of this City Journal or that Edmonton is a real city. Aswell the efforts put into accuracy. And I'm not sure whats presumptious about this CJ? Dolfan's CJ has had a great start and is new. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. Alot of new CJ's have new ideas that take the game to different levels. Personally I have a CJ to show my work not compete or compare to other City Journals. I'll be the first to list off tons of great CJ's that make this section of the forums the only one I often look threw. I have a few busy days off coming up but I'll probably play around with the region for a bit. I've done some road work and residential developement lately which I'll show soon. Plus I went on a long drive to distant areas of the city....places where I can put some more detail into now that I'm refreshed on the areas. Updates soon..... .....any request?

Suburbs are looking great and very realistic. You can see the attention payed to detail on each area. Also the traffic looks good. I can relate in some areas of mine I have major traffic. I may release pics. Some busy freeway pictures would be nice too.

Just another region pic. You can see hot the St.Albert area has grown. I don't like how the avenues overwelm the view of the area. I may take one down to a street to free up the cluster of roads look. Plus with it being on a large slope it over shadows the actual shape of the road. I should take a pic of the ingame map for comparison soon.

Every Canada Day (July 1st), Edmonton turns on the High Level Bridge water fall which is 27 feet higher then Niagra Falls. At 11pm they have fire works over the river valley in Downtown.

Boobster : The intersection in the last picture is made with a lot thats on the Stex...very usefull. Quito : I'll most likely use a blend of both blended and gaps for rail pending on the area it is.

St.Albert I began laying roads for St.Albert. Easily the hardest area to recreat in Edmonton. St.Albert is the biggest city outside of Edmonton's city limits. Its very hard to recreate due to having a huge and wide river valley with the small Sturgeon river going threw the city. Building on slopes in SC is very hard. But this is at such a long slope that it hasn't been as bad as I thaught it would or could be. Here is a region view with the new roads and a map of the area. The red line on the mpa shows where my region ends.

Golden West Golf Course Just another small update....this is one of over 50 Edmonton area golf courses. The Golden West in in the North West Area of the city sarounded by spreadout industry and feilds. This is a picture of lots I use to fill in areas between tracks. Edmonton has several rail yards and along Yellowhead Trail many tracks. So to get the full rail look I tried this. What do you think is better. Empty (grass and rail) look, or the blended track to track look?

Whitemud Creek Located in southwestern Edmonton Whitemud Creek is home to thick forrest and old growth. It has a really nice trail running threw it for mountain biking and hiking. Also it is home to the Snow Valley ski hill. Just a few runs that are a few hundred feet long. But one of a few Ski areas in the city.

I was in the game and seen another common style of intersection I use. The Yellowhead trail and WhiteMud drive have alot of intersections like this. I've shown pics like this before but this is slightly revised implementing the one way off and on ramps. This picture is Yellowhead Trail and 97th Street.

MTLT17 : as requested here are a couple of intersections. The areas around them are still empty so that is one reseaon why I hesitated to show them. When there filled in with sarrounding areas they come to life. Also for anyone who doesn't know I don't use NAM. Maybe I'm crazy but I haven't found the need to yet. I'm going to go threw the NAM discussion thread and see if any pics look usefull for my region. Edmonton doesn't have many complicated interchanges so most can be done as so. I have many other styles of intersections I'll be showing. Next time who knows maybe with NAM in hand. Also someone asked how to post multiple pics in a thread. After posting one pic just hit enter and add another picture. Admins, Modds, and Ops! Please do not delete anyones replies becuase you feel there off topic. I will PM you if I feel there off topic. Any discussion on this page has had to do with The City of Edmonton. I found the discussion to reveal alot of stats for people who don't know them. If you go threw many past pages these are topics I myself have braught up. There is nothing wrong with cmduw talking about what programs the University of Alberta has. If any moderator can place what he has taken the time to reply back I would apprieciate it. Agian if its about Edmonton in any means it is not off topic. I enjoyed talking to robpark about Calgary in Edmonton the only reason I cut that short is I know it could have gone on for ever. robpark was also respectible in what he shared in stats and opinions. None the less thanks for keeping an eye out for the City journal but please let me PM you if I think anything is off the issue. One reason I have this CJ is to show people every or any aspect of my home town.

Wow....this will end after this post. For one this is a city journal not a debate. I was surprised to see these replies after coming home from work. Robpark : For one your stats are old. And Edmontons population is for its region which includes many suburbs like St. Albert and Sherwood park and so on. If you only went on the cities populations places like Boston would only have 581,000 instead of its regional 5,815,000. The fact is Edmonton is many cities when Calgary is only 1. For my stats on the skyscrapers there from Skycrapers.com also known as Emporis.com and the stats are of completed skyscrapers not total which Edmonton nears 300. The fact is Calgary does have many commercial buildings while Edmonton has many residential skyscrapers that line our river valley. Here our links to proove what I've said. As for Commonwealth Stadium.....next to the SkyDome nothing in Canada is as good. The fact is it is has higher attendances on average then your stadium can even hold with some CFL games topping 60,000. All my stats on areanas and stadiums where searched before posted aswell. Commonwealth Stadium has hosted many large events. Many don't know the World Track and Feild Championships well....but next to the World Cup and the Summer Olympics it is the worlds largest event. Also again Edmonton will have 20,000 athletes here (4000 more then Athens). What can I say Commonwealth is well utilized. At times getting 50,000 plus for womens under 19 soccer lol. One other note on sports, Edmonton as a city has the most current NHL'ers and most NHL'ers of all time from our city...Currently I believe its like 24 to 7 for Edmonton vs Calgary in NHL products....you do enjoy Iginla don't you. I have played hockey with him in the summer...after all this is his home. Some also may ask why is it Edmonton beat out Calgary for the new Canadian stop in Cart racing. As for hosting events I could go on. We in Edmonton don't care for the rodeo...Calgary loves it....why is it Edmonton still holds the Canadian Final Rodeo each year? We are holding the Brior again this year. We just had the Juno's, we just had the Country Music awards aswell....earlier I didn't want to go into detail but I could write a list half a page long of events we've got, many of them beating out Calgary to host them. This is due to our venues vs yours. As for saying West Edmonton Mall is a swath of destruction. That makes me wonder if your still in your mid to early teens. The fact is its Albertas number one attraction by far. It has a larger economy then Canada's smallest province (Prince Edward Island). And yes it does look like a mall from the outside. But inside having hotels, amusement park, water park, submarines, arena, animals, tons of clubs, a casino, and alot more...its just not some place to shop. It in a hand full has more attrations then your city has at anytime in total. West Edmonton mall is expanding aswell....a zoo, 8000 seat arena, 10 story office tower and 10 story appartment tower. It also provides 23,000 jobs. You did agree Edmontons river valley is much nicer. Hard to argue when its 21 times the size of Central park and lined with recreation threw the heart of a large city. The U of A does have an engineering program. But many take that at NAIT. The U of A is rated very high for Canada and also rakes in a ton of Championships in sports each year. Both mens and womens hockey being the most notable. As for an LRT ours is expanding and we had the first subway west of the mississippi but again yours has many more stops at the moment. As for your Olympic park. Its great to have for any city but kiss your reconition good bye. Vancouver 2010 Any other stats you want I can back up. Also this is a small fraction of things I could bring up. Perhaps robpark leave one more post to close this. This is a City Journal on my recreation. Not a place to debate. Well it was bound to happen to have someone from Calgary come onto this CJ and bring up the rivalry and say there city is better. Edmonton and Calgary have an ugly past with most in each city hating the other. Well here are some things for Simtropolis fans to view. Perhaps they have an opininon? Most Calgarians bost that there city has the financal district due to oil and they do. But Edmonton is a blue color city with most of the oil industries workes coming from here. They also like to say there city is bigger and it is by 0.1%....just huge lol. Plus by 2010 Edmonton will pass Calgary in population. Edmonton holds many more world events and concerts then Calgary due to having much better facilities. I could go on...And honestly I tried being fair to Calgary which is a great city but I often fail to see what it has on Edmonton. True its downtown is taller and newer, but Edmonton sits several hundred ft up on a huge river valley full of parks which I find to be nicer. Calgary's bow river is closer to the mountains so it isnt the river the North Saskatchewan is. I don't know you tell me.....

This was originaly a request by abcd. There is alot that needs done in downtown. This is the far west end of downtown which is all appartments that line the top of the river valley. I'm re-showing an article that includes this area. Its facing east while the SimCity picture is facing north. Again alot of work is needed in this area...but as requested here is a sneak peak.

There isn't muched finished but next time I load the game I'll take a picture of the far west end of downtown to show. (124st and Jasper Ave area). kassarc16 : For the farms I try to emulate the real ones with the little info I have. For the Evergreen ones I used to zone map and for the SW Edmonton farms I used that satellite photo. I mix the god mode trees and some of pegs random trees to get a realistic look. I find to get farm demand going you need roughly the same number in res as you do for farm jobs. And keep your education below 50. To get the shapes of the farms like that I pause the game then build it in blocks by holding shift. Then to shape it I dezone the extra....saround it by trees and then get the game rolling again. Thats one trick out of a few to get farms to look like that and my most common used one. And for the automata lots I haven't made anymore. I haven't needed any effectso for areas yet. But I'm sure I could make a few anytime I need. Maybe I'll make a pack of them then release it on the Stex. It's nice have more random appearing things in the city without needing the usual lot to span them. quito : For the University of Alberta I may make some custom lots. It has many modern buildings mixed with many 100 years old. The U of A farms are no different then usual looking farms. The only difference is its in the middle of the city. I have some good arial pictures to recreate that. And CFB Edmonton used to be Millitary housing. The city has grown around this area and is in the middle of being remade with new housing. Much of the housing there now is from WW2. Also currently there are some large military halls and old style buildings on that land. Edmonton has a huge air base that borders to the north of my map but is out of the region. Alot of the military live out there now. I've actually layed the roads for Griesbach already. SW Edmonton This is the far SW corner of the region. It is far from finished but I wanted to show a preview of what the area is looking like and another great map from Feepa I'm using to recreate the area. That red line on the map is Anthony Henday drive. It is curently under construction and will be Edmonton's first ring road when completed. I'm surprised at how many updates I've done of late and had no replies? If anyone has any request and wants to see different things just ask.

Evergreen Evergreen is located in the far North East corner of Edmonton. Mainly farmland with some greenhouses aswell as the Evergreen trailer court. Manning drive also runs threw the area to Fort Saskatchewan a city of 15,000 which is just outside of my regional map. I took a few random up close photos since most of this area isn't finished and has some gaps.
