NE Roads Complete! After hours upon hours of laying roads this week I finally finished NE Edmonton. This is one of Edmontons hardest areas. With a few areas in the actual city left and St.Albert in the far NW the roads are nearly finished for this region. -Before- And again a link to a full sized view of the transportation map... http://img152.exs.cx/img152/4401/edmontonfeb14c6hl.jpg

canadianhockeyfreak : That doesn't look like the Telus building? Perhaps you are thinking of a Telus Building in another city? Dudyconstructors model of the Telus building is exact except the roof. Unless you fly over it often I'm not sure you wouldn't be able to pick that up as the building not looking right. Here is a previous post once again to show that you can't get it any closer then what it is. brtlrt : using SimCity4 as your tool. What needs changed along Fox Drive? This is an area I see less then 10 times a year. From past feedback I was told is is very close?

Whats new with Edmonton... Over the past few days there has been no updates on the City Journal. I've been busy laying a mass amount of roads in my effort to complete the road network for the City. The NE is the major area that needed to be finished. By either tonight or tomorrow this entire area should be complete. This should be one of the largest road updates in months and should take the region to 95% completion of roads. From there the region should really start growing and have more interesting updates. Keep posted. I'm anxious to get these roads finished as boring as laying them may be.

kvasir : To determin which ones are roads I usually know Edmonton well enough to place where each one is. In the curved areas though I usually place a road on ones that connect to avenues and go for a good distance. Then with streets continueing off the roads. For roads in straight areas I know there are a few streets in the city I have to upgrade. Most of my region is roads and believe it or not I don't have many or any commute problems so far. Really good work on Regina by the way. Where do you live? if not there...

Packersfan : There are a variety of interchanges posted on previous pages. Any new ones I build I will post when done. There are a couple left in the SE to do. And many need alot of work. But I know I posted pictures of interchanges 3 or 4 times.

Dargor : Thanks for the request. I never rarely show any area without developement. Just for the fact it looks a little choppy without developement around it. But once you build around these curvey areas they come to life and look much better. Here are two pictures of the empty Millwoods roads and then a picture of a developed area in NW Edmonton to show the effect buildings have with these roads.

This was great to see when I woke up this morning. It's been a while but NintendoMaster128 has decided to finish the Telus Plaza. With the nightlites, textures, and renduring left to do. I'm really anxious to see NintendoMaster finish Dudy's great model of the building. This is one of Edmonton's headline skyscrapers and will be a great addition to the Region. Thanks again and looking forward to more progress.

JLee : The CN Tower is also in Edmonton. If you go back a couple of pages you will see this was braught up. Comdude21 : The Airport is from a special airport pack that was made. I wish the creator released it but I'm not sure what happened. Threw a friend on MSN I was able to get a copy. It does have some issues and as far as I know its in BETA. (off topic) - Thanks for the offer to run SimNation but after being an admin and seeing you give up on it so quickly I lost interest in the site. As you can see from this CJ I don't like giving up. JLee : The curved roads are made by at times making streets zig zag or roads turn often. By laying things properly you can get this effect. Besides I don't have a choice. I lay the roads to scale so this is what is left lol. beebs : Sorry for the delay on Terwillegar. But with it only being roads and streets at the moment its not much to look at. I am finishing the roads in North East Edmonton. After that I may see how the R$$ demand is. I need to place alot more commercial before the regions population starts gaining alot again.

Well after finally getting some time to play I've laid down a ton of roads in NE Edmonton. I can safely say 85-90% of the roads are finished for the city now. It's nice being able to glance at the region and see exactly what needs to be done with out being overwelmed. Clareview is nearly finished. The Hermitage area which was wiped out the other day needs re-done.

NAM Crashes Edmonton Anyone who knows this region well knows I don't use NAM. I was going to try a new style interchange with raised Avenues. Finally today I began working on Edmonton for nearly an hour. I was making progress in a very hard NE area of Edmonton. I even re-terraformed an extremely hard part of the city. Then I decided to try NAM finally. The game crashed and exited the game losing all work I have done today. Luckily I backed up the entire region yesterday. I never have any problems with Sim City. But....? Don't get me wrong, NAM is a great program. The best ever made for Sim City. I would recomend it to anyone. I'm just iffy when something like that happens.

South East Roads Near Completion. I've done some more work in the south east area of the city. I'm really looking to finishing most roads, if not all in the City in the next month. St. Alberta (NW), may be a little later.

Vigo : I know your school. I haven't started that area and its not that close. About 30 some Blocks east of me. I remember when they built that in th eearly 90's. You must live in Clareview. I should start on that in the next week. I think tonight I will try and finish up the South and South East. I also wouldn't mind making an update giving a rough area of Simtropolis members and where they live in Edmonton. I have met well over 50 people from Edmonton on ST.

Roads Complete in Millwoods After laying down roads in Millwoods on and off for the better part of a year this area is finished. There are a few nieghboring areas that need to be completed. After that the entire South Side of the city will be complete. The largest gap right now is NE Edmonton. Funny the area I grew up in is the last area to be finished.

Iknowu : I don't fish in the North Saskatchewan River. Actually few do. It's not the best fishing river. For most cities its a very clean body of water but still it's only recomended that you eat one fish per month from the river. The River starts a few hundred Km to the west in the Rocky Mountains and work its way to the Hudson Bay. seas123 : This recreation will probably out live Simtropolis. I'm not one to quit at anything in life. Anyone in chat could probably tell you that. I'm stuburn and like things done correct. I just hope Simtropolis is around in 18months when this city should be getting finished. Who knows maybe sooner. I don't mean any offence to the site, but for many games grow old. And when they do the sites that are up for them some times shut down. Simtropolis is a heavy site to run. I really hope things continue to go well in the future. I would still play Edmonton without it...but I would lose alot of the enjoyment I get out of it without being able to show it.

London_Wyverns : Yeah....I noticed that too. But with Region Census there is an option to place all the ingame names. And like the game they are the same color. That would take forever to put down all the names by hand. But I may do an update soon showing the main areas of Edmonton and divide them up somehow.

Full Size Region Views Finally I have 3 region views in there full size. Now you can see much more detail and the full spectrum of this region. If this update goes well I should have many more large Image updates in the future. Again I want to thank everyone who follows this City Journal and takes the time to view it and reply. With everyones interest it is easy to push for the extra effort in detail. I have alot of pride in Edmonton and to be able to show it to such a wide spectrum of people around the globe makes this at times more then just a side hobby. Thank You,

seas : Edmonton* only has one downtown nearly dead center in the city. Stretching to the west of the Commercial Center of downtown is dozens of highrise appartment buildings. Edmonton has 225 Skyscrapers which is alot for any city of 1million.

rubberduck : I have one main map I use. And its usually always on my Computer desk. I also usually have a bunch of printed out arial and satellite pictures everywhere too. ExiL3 : That will be the first site I try when I do it. I'm haven't played the city for a few days and don't have time tonight. Maybe tomorrow I'll have the large pictures of the region linked up here. packersfan : There is mod somewhere on the STEX that will show you all zone colors on the region map. As for the roads streets and highways being more vissible that is a mod I made just so things will be better in-game. Its also on the STEX. Search Edmonton Transportation Mod or TheJerseyDevil73

Electroclash : For schools, hospitals, fire, police coverage.... I use special 1x1 lots that fill the demand for nearly the whole area of each map. Then I just place the actual schools, hospitals, and so on where they actually are for the show of it and I guess bonus coverage. This was one thing that for a long time I never knew how to get around. Around the same time buildings began to pop up I solved that problem. For getting the proper $$$ $$ or $ in areas I play with the taxes to control R$$$ and R$. But for R$$ I have found lately this comes straight down to over all jobs in the region and mainly reflect commercial jobs. As for any Commercial or Industrial growth I use another mod to max all the demands so they will always grow. This really helped in Farming growth. As for the pathfinding and commute times. I use Traffic Cop and with bus stops placed where needed (not where they actually are) I can nearly say the entire region doesnt have one no job zot. I can do that reguardless of any mods. I just added traffic cop becuase it made it a bit more realistic. As for the roads. The region transportation view seems to be what attracts many people to this CJ. And its my personal fave. People may not notice every little addition I do, but after even small areas are completed it feels very rewarding to get it out of the way. They don't always look the best in game. But this is SC4 and all I can do is push its limits. After all this is my 4th Sim City and 4th scaled Edmonton. To bad I couldnt post pictures of my first version of Edmonton from the early 90's lol. Thanks again for the questions.

beebs : The Terwillegar area needs alot of work and is mainly roads? I could work on that area next for developement. Did you want an in city picture...or a close up region view of it? Dargor : A freelance-journalist sounds like a cool job. I am a bartender but it isn't some crazy club. Just days at a nieghborhood pub. But I've been there 8years now. As for the region it is very rare I work on it before 8pm. Just a side hobby to occupy me while watching TV. MayorTim : I know I should help Simtropolis by using offsite. But it seems like it would be a pain to do for every picture. I will look into it, just for the fact I would like some larger pictures. So who knows in the next week. Mentarman : If you think the last 30 pages or so had detail just wait for the next 30. With new buildings, building styles, and resources to help the detail it should improve with each page. The Satellite photos have by far been the greatest tool I have at the moment and I've only been using it for a while. Even completed areas may be revamped as the city grows. As for the scale I use and the map check out Page 11. It shows the actaul map and how I measure most everything. The scale is slightly off what Sim City actually is. Also the map is Rand McNally 2003 - Edmonton The region is also all hand terraformed from the map. The version I share on MSN has slowly changed as the region has growed. No that roads and landmarks fill areas I can begin to see where terraformed areas need slight adjustment. Thanks for the Questions! Please keep them coming.
