Edmonton March 15th : I've played around with alot of different areas of the city lately. I did alot of work on the Manning Crossing area today increasing the regions jobs by a few thousand. And I also did some work on the airport. I filled in all the gaps with an airport textured park I made to give it a complete look. In the next day or two I should do alot of work on this map and sarounding areas of the airport. Here is the Airports 2nd draft.

4 Local Mounties Killed While investigating a marijuana grow op just northwest of Edmonton near the small town of Mayerthorpe on March 3rd 2005, 4 mounties where shot with a high powered riffle. All 4 Mounties died on the scene. To look back in Canadian history to see the last time something of this magnitude happened you have to look back to 1885 to see this devistation. Canada as a nation can go years at a time without losing a police officer and sadly just outside of Edmonton we lost 4 junior officers at once. This last Thursday (March 13th) at the University of Alberta (in Edmonton) we held the largest memorial in Canadian history. These four men deserved more then a large memorial, they deserved to live out there lives. Over 15,000 people attended along with many delegates including the Prime Minister of Canada and Premier of Alberta. Also 10,000 Mounties, Canadian, and American police officers attended the memorial. The pictures above are all from the memorial. I know many people around the world die daily and may have had much harder lives. But in the area of the world I live in this never happens. Its been nearly two weeks and its still hard to understand why, and what happened. I'm really sorry for what has happened.

Edmonton Transportation Region View This is a link to a full size map of the region. I release these every now and then to show the detail on areas. And how close the road network is coming to completion. Full Size Transportation Map.

Imotepp : My inustrial areas are mainly plopped with a mod called the Final Plop Mod. Its a bit tricky when you first use it. But you can plop down any growable RCI lot. My industrial areas are done accuratley as possible with this game. They will most likely be the areas that are hardest to recreate. SC4's Industrial lots overall arent to realistic. Tinnyboy_gummi : Australia is a little ways away. And if you ever make such a long trip to really make it worth while make sure you go to the Canadian Rockies. Possibly the nicest mountains on earth. And yeah if you like shopping this is one of the best cities to do it. Your lucky you werent at West Edmonton Mall yesterday. 1000's where evacuated after a fire. Next to no damage. Goodluck with Gladstone aswell...If you need anyhelp with it just ask. Cammo2003 : Thanks for the spellcheck Chunky_monkey_14 : The roads are made by offsetting a series of roads. Example : A 5x1, 4x1, 3x1, 4x1, 5x1. If you do this with roads in order and place one above the next you can make a small curve. If you check out my other (new) CJ, you can see some good curved roads that are freely made (Monarch Coast).

Just some more Industrial progress in the Mayfeild area. These are acurate areas so they are taking time to recreate using arial photos.

City of Edmonton - March 7th I haven't worked on the region much in the last 2 to 3 weeks. But I have a few days off of work and I did a little work in Northwest Edmonton this morning. This area is mainly Industry. Most if it being warehouses or industrial offices. It is extremely hard to recreate industry properly. There are warehouses in Edmonton that would be up to 10x10 tiles so recreating lots like that can't be done for now. But the region needs more industrial growth so I wanted to build up a little more. Here are some photos of 1 small area that is in its early beggining. Just west of 170th Street and between 111th and 105th Ave. Only half of this small area is done....but I wanted to push for an update since it has been so long since the last. There should be alot fo updates coming up.

Bee21 : The killing of the 4 mounties NW of Edmonton has left me in disbelief. Police officers nation wide can go years without a death and for something like this to happen in this area is crazy. The local and national news have been covering it very closely. Edmonton for a city of 1million only has 20-28 murders a year. Canada has many marijuana grow operations and the government is trying to crack down on it. Hopefully it will be another 120 years before something like this happens again. Jasperdeman.nl : Thanks for the satellite link. Thats a really neat angle of the city. I'll have to check out that NASA site a little more and see if I can get some good sat pics of the city. So far the site I use only has good views of half the city. Edmonton : Its been a slow couple of weeks, I've been pretty busy but in the next week there should be some good updates coming.

Imotepp : Thanks for reading the whole CJ. Its nice to see it capture peoples intentions and inspire them to do the same for there areas. Chicago is a huge area and would be a hard region to tackle. The entire Edmonton area with all of its suburbs is much larger then my area. But to iclude most of them would take forever. So I just did the main part of the city aswell as St. Albert. Edmontons largest burb at 55,000. Since you do a main commute maybe you could do just that.... Your Commute. Regions can be expanded later if you want to include more. Chicago has been recreated a couple of times on this site aswell if your looking for Ideas. Edmontons transportation is pretty simple for a city of 1mil. But I think doing areas like I55 and 355 would be interesting. Good or bad. And like my region I am including future areas that are planned. Maybe you could do the same to solve the problem. This isnt the site I use most often for Edmonton. But this is a good one for US areas. Maybe this can help you. Good American Satellite Site

ACEfanatic : thats great to hear your willing to do Southgate mall. But if your interested there are about 276 other buildings in the city that are more noteable if you would like to tackle one in BAT. Still waiting on the Telus building which was for the 3rd time sappose to be finished again? Who knows. But Ace if you want to try a mall or any type of building it would be more then great. I could really use help batting some builings to take this region to the next level.

Beebs : The main downfall of this region is the Elevation of the river valley. It is a little to deep and makes for many areas along the river valley hard to recreate. Other parts of the city slightly rise above the rest. I showed this in NE Edmonton and along refinery row but any other slightly sloped areas are pretty well flat. I'm not really concerned about elevation. After terraforming all the land what I made I am stuck with. Even after terraforming the SW I knew this would/could be an issue when the city began to develope.
-
Vigo : Yes all plans at the moment show it going only as far as Century Plaza. But while watching the news the other day they reported that they where speeding up the project. Originally slated to take place over the next ten years or more they announced they are speeding it up. Then they mentioned they had talked to the Mayor of Leduc and may expand it after further looking into it. As anyone knows this city is really pushing for more transportation and expansion. Edmonton is slated to be the fastest growing city in Canada and its growth should make up the 15,000 gap with Calgary and pass it in the next few years. Should be interesting.
-
Edited : Former page Header Beebs : The rail along Southgate must look out of place for anyone. But it is the Future LRT expansion. And with the mayor recently announcing this should be done within 3-5yrs. And they are talking of maybe even heading all the way down to the international airport or Leduc. Heres hoping.

lol, I'm surprised people like how I did Southgate Mall. I really don't have any choice unless I leave a large gap in the middle or start batting which I can't do. I actually planned on never showing the mall due to it looking like that. The middle is actually terraformed land with small 1x1 texture lots on it. I still have alot of editing to do to this area, but like I said due to being busy lately I wanted to get some sort of update out there.
-
Southgate Area : This is just a few pictures of the Southgate area which is half finished. I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had time to work on the region or update. I decided to take a few pictures until I have another update. The Southgate Mall area will be re-done. This is just a rough view of the area.
-
Unreal as always. This is one of only a couple of CJ's I view. This region has one of the most realistic views of any out there. And being a Mountain climber I get a kick out of looking at the valley. It looks alot like Jasper just west of Edmonton. Very realistic.
-
V3 : All the utility lots are special lots that are hee on ST. The (Power/Water),(School/Hospital), and (Fire/Police) are all 1x1 lots that RaphealNinja made. They cover most any map and max out most any stat. For garbage I use a 2x2 lot. These lots are small 1x1 towers so they do stand out when places in Res areas. But they solve the problem of needing coverage in every map when in many areas of Edmonton on an SC scale there isnt power plants and excetra. Everyone : I've been fairly busy lately and haven't had much to any time to play Edmonton. Don't worry its not on the shelf it's just a little delayed. Keep posted and thanks for your patience.
-
emerae : I'm glad to see another person from Edmonton has seen this CJ. Yellowhead is a bad example of a freeway with actuall traffic lights every few km's. At least Edmonton is building alot of transportation of late. I've also owned every SimCity and I've made Edmonton on every version. This City has a long way to go. And alot to build. The longer it goes the more interesting it will be. And again, about the CN Tower... (I've posted this picture before, and said several times that Edmonton had a CN Tower before Toronto)
-
How could this even turn into a who has better architecture thread? The fact is...many building in the US are designed in Canada and many buildings in Canada are designed in the US. If not the majority being joint efforts. I know Edmonton for some reason has a huge glass plant that sends windows across north america aswell as many architecture ferms here aswell that make plans for around the globe. If you are going to compare cities and there skylines....Canadian cities for there population have huge downtown cores vs the US. The Toronto area is around 5million and it has nearly 2,000 skyscrapers including the worlds tallest freestanding structure. Edmonton and Calgary with 1million each have over 200 skyscrapers each. How many american cities of 1million have 200+ skyscrapers. I mean LA has 17 times the population of Edmonton and not even twice the skyscrapers... If anyone wants to look try.... www.emporis.com Vigo you where wondering about the new complex going up in Edmonton at the heritage mall site...heres a peak.. Century Plaza. My region also has info on this.
-
Greyveil/Homer Thanks for the detailed reply Greyveil. And by no means your not cluttering my City Journal. Anyone who has questions on Edmonton, Edmonton lots, or Edmonton mods can ask them here. Since I use so many transportation map shots this was a great definition of exactly what is used...how and why. I couldn't have said it better. But then again you helped with my mod so you should know.
-
Homer : there is another mod. I can't remember who makes it. But I think its in the mod area. Its a two part mod. One alters the roads. One alters the zones. Make sure use the road altering mod. Having two of them at once may be a conflict.

Edmonton cracks 300,000... Far from a large number for an 18 month old region but still a show of recent growth. It's weird at times to build a region so slowly. I have other regions with cities of 1million yet here population takes a long time to stake. It's hard to say what the final total will be but it should be double what Edmonton really is, sitting at 1million. I should have some up close pictures of areas soon.
-
The old Table of Contents trick. Looks good.

comdude : the scale took 3 days and a few test cities to determin. There where areas of the city I had made and then destroyed in a search for the proper scale. As for zoning... So far I've done 95% from Arial pics, Satellite pics, or memory. With the other 5% being from actaull city zoning maps which are a pain to read and only tell the zone but nothing about the building or lot. I really need to start laying more Industry and Commercial to keep up with the job demand. Today : I began laying out a small area of Millwoods and Forrest Hieghts. I have max demand for RCI at every level so I have no problems developing right now. I know after 10-20,000 more res though the R$$ will bottom out so I need to find more arial pictures of the city and Satellite pictures for the entire east side of the city. I can only use satellite for the west end of the city for now.

ejc : Thanks, anyone who knows me on Simtropolis knows I don't often give up at anything. I'm stuburn and often go for the extra nail in the coffin. It may take a while but this region will be finished. Maybe another year for it to be complete. This is the only game and now only region I play. Plus with new tools and ways of building things my speed has doubled. nofunk : If you ever start up Milwaukee and you need any help with scales or how to recreate an accurate city just ask. Hope you try it and good luck. I like trying other peoples efforts at recreating cities. There are a few others that stand out aswell.
