ITS WORKING!!! I just added -intro:off to the list of commands in the target section, tried to load the game, and it worked!!!!! Thanks so, so much to all of you and your help with getting SimCity 4 Deluxe up and running. I am so, so appreciative!!! You guys are a blessing!

Its possible I guess. I know very little about all of this. Does it matter where and what order these add-ons are inputted into the target code?

Cyclone Boom - I tried that: "C:\GOG Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -F -Audio:Off -D:Software - but my PC froze up again. This is so frustrating because my PC freezes up and is unresponsive.

Ok, so I went made a new shortcut to my SimCity 4 Deluxe game. In "target" - I found it in properties - I now have: "C:\GOG Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -F -Audio:Off. The game started for a second, and then froze up while still on the desktop!! What in the world am I doing wrong?!!?

Rsc204 – Thanks for the heads up! I uninstalled SimCity 4 Deluxe, and reinstalled it. I am still using 1920x1080 as default. And after that reinstall, I found five files in my Plugins folder – I promptly removed them, as per your suggestion. I don’t recall if my PC updated my sound drivers. I always use a pair of headphones while gaming – I find the sound quality to be better that way!! Yes, my CAPS LOCK button does have a light, and in turn I have been using that tactic when I have a problem. Please give me a refresher about Command Line fix, where to put the CustomResolution command line so I try out your suggestion.

Hey Raymond!! I read your list (7 items) of what the problem could be - and I can debunk almost all of them. 1 -Hasn't changed, 2 - I patched NAM, 3 - my Plugins folder is empty, 4 - my audio device has not changed since I last got this game to work, 5 - I have now installed the game twice, 6 - maybe, not much has changed there, 7 - a little vague. Not sure what to say now. But I am so excited that I will soon be able to play!!

Cool! So, I used "Download Offline Backup Game Installers" to install the game, and I installed NAM too. I went to the appropriate folder and then the SimCity 4 Deluxe .exe, but when I double-clicked on it, I am back to the black screen. I tried pushing "CAPS LOCK" but the light does not turn on. Your thoughts?

Alrighty, I think I have this straightened out. But a thought - with the "Download Offline Backup Game Installers" - where should I extract the .exe file before I try to play? Is there a certain folder that the compact file needs to go? I am asking lots of questions because I want to get this right. Also, I see that the "Download Offline Backup Game Installers" is not serviced with updates and such. Will this be a problem? And what do I do if/when I want to download custom content?

Interesting!! With GOG games, I usually use GOG Galaxy 2.0 to install games, I was not aware that there is a separate installer option. How do I install the stand-alone version? And I hope we can go over the -f and -w commands, so that I can finally get this game running!! Thanks to everyone for their help!

Alrighty! A shortcut has been successfully made!! Let me give you a heads up on what I am seeing, as it differs from the image you sent me. Target says, ""C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\GalaxyClient.exe" /command=runGame /gameId=1207664593 /path="D:\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition". Start In says, ""C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy". Where does -f and -w come into play with this?

Yes, I am using Windows 10. First and foremost, I do not have a SC4 shortcut – I use either the START menu (99% of the time) or an icon in the taskbar. I tried right-clicking, but all that comes up is either to run the game or remove it from the taskbar. I do forget how to make a shortcut – I used to know but I have not made one in eons. Second, my display can span from 800x600 up to 1920x1080. Would a shortcut give me the option to use your tactic: CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 (?) And where should I put that line of code? And on that note, I need to crash for work tomorrow. Thanks so, so much for your help and for putting up with my questions and frustrating tendencies. Thanks for not being infuriated with me! And you are right – trying to tackle a problem from a million different angles at once is counter-productive. I took your advice and clicked on an empty place on my desktop – Screen Resolution was not listed, but I did go to display settings (that was listed), and my max resolution for now is 1920X1080. How can I know whether GOG is using -f or -w? And I do not see that image anywhere (the one you ended your last post with). Help!

Rsc204 – First and foremost, my apologies. I was not trying to ignore you or your recommendations, or even disregard what you are saying. I do not know much about computers, and I have a bunch of different suggestions flying at me here. So, to embrace this as a whole, I went back to your first response to my thread and worked from there. My current resolution is 1920x1080, but I can change that if need be. I see you mentioned the command: -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 – I am not using Steam or Origin, rather I am using GOG. I am usually accessing SimCity4 Deluxe via the START menu, but it might be more convenient to put the game on my taskbar. Would that throw a wrench into everything you guys are saying here? I am not sure how my PC would respond to something like that. When trying to load the game, my primary monitor goes black, and yes, I have tried CTRL+ALT_DELETE. That does not get me anywhere. But I will use your suggestion of pushing the CAPS LOCK button, to see if it lights up or not. You had suggested installing a driver from before February of this year. If I do take that route, how would an older driver effect my other games, or my PC as a whole? I would hope it would not discombobulate the health of my PC. What is a “wrapper”? Can you give me a bit more information on this? Long story short, I was not trying to ignore you or not having faith in what you have been saying. I feel like a jerk now. But I am listening to what you are telling me, and trying to understand what is going on and how all of this can be fixed.

So any other thoughts or ideas of how to get SimCity4 Deluxe running properly? Like I said before, my Plugins folder has one folder inside, that folder is empty. And if it needs to be empty to get the game running, what will happen when I download some custom content?

Hey guys! Wow, I came home to quite a few messages waiting for me!! Raymond – I bought SimCity 4 Deluxe on March 26, 2019. As per your question about what happened after that, I am at a loss for what to say to that. In what respect are you referring to? As for tWalsh102, I have not tried to play SimCity4 Deluxe with one monitor – I guess I could disable one of mine (windows button + P) and see what happens. Here comes my naivety – I am not entirely sure what the Plugins folder is/does. Does that sound stupid?

I dragged the .bat file to the SimCity 4 Deluxe .exe, and I think the program tried to do something, but the same monitor (left one) goes black like before. Not sure what to do.

Every time I double click on the batch file, I get that same message. How do I point the batch file to the SC4.exe file?

Maybe I got that message because I am using the Deluxe Edition?

I am getting the following message - SimCity4_4GB_Patch_Script_v3.bat This command script automates applying the 4 GB Patch to SimCity 4.exe ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value. "\SimCity 4.exe" was not found as expected. At that point, I clicked on my keyboard and was taken back to my desktop.

Where should I extract the zip file into? And after clicking on the .bat file, I should be all set?

So, you think that if I download NAM, this will fix my ultimate problem? About my left monitor going black and freezing up? I really do appreciate all of your help and advice!!!

Oh. Why can it see/use only 1Gb of Ram? Do I have to change a setting, or is something wrong with my PC? I will look at NAM, but I am curious as to your response to those two questions.
