Nice. I like those little villages. I am looking forward to see how you will develope the region. I hope to see some more British stuff. Good luck!
-
Really looking good so far. But what an exercise you are undertaking! Building a medieval city! I had some of the problems you mentioned in my village, too. But your task is even harder. I like realism. I am waiting to see how you will develope this city. Good luck.

mntoes: No problem. toxicpiano: So, by the look of it you would say town, right? MayorTim: European, yes. That was my intention. Thank you for your comment. The third day of the village tour While having breakfast at the Yorkshire Grey, some people at the neighbour table told us about the local cemetery. A must-see, they said. Thinking that we shouldn't leave this village without having seen this fabulous place, we went through the village, heading east. Because that was the direction they had told us to go. We had to pass the little park in front of the church again. This has to be said here: The_New_Thing: (creator of the rowhouses seen in the left of above picture) If you by chance read this, I want to thank you for your very nice 'Thing row' set. I like these buildings. You should consider to make some cornerlots similar to gascooker. It would really rise the usefullness of your beautiful BATs. Back to the tour. Soon we reached the last houses and had to go along some small fields and apple trees. Climbing up the little hill we saw it. The cemetery and its nearby church. This is real rural life. Even a horse was walking down the road. But the cemetery itself was just an ordinary one. This type of cemetery can be seen in every city around the Sim-Nation. Quite a letdown. If we saw something more interesting afterwards will be told in the next chapter. That's it for now. What do you think about the cemetery? A rather boring place it is, isn't it? Thank you for replies. (Is it 'replys' or 'replies'?)

Great airport. I especially like the pedestrian bridges connecting the parking garages. Very creative.

Thanks to everyone who left a note. I am feeling much better now about this. Tennismaster1: Good tip. I will see if I find a place to put it somewhere in the village. How do you get along with your own CJ? Have you solved the problem with uploading pictures? I would like to see something of your work too. toxicpiano: Thank you for your comment. I don't really know the borderline between a village and a town. What would you say? From what number of residents up a community should be called a town? In german we only have the words 'Dorf' and 'Stadt' which translate into 'village' and 'city' respectively. So I am not sure where to locate the term town which seems to be somewhere in between. jacqulina: You are always welcome here! chek: I am glad that you like it. Answering your question: This is a long story. First you have to put down the correct zones for the lots to develope. Then you will have to wait and to demolish any unwanted buildings that show up. And wait again, and demolish again, and wait again, ... To get the correct buildings everythere this will take quite long. The village you see here is over 500 years old already. If you want to know how to get gascooker's suburban homes have a look at the 'BSC Gascooker Emporium'. I posted a mini-tutorial about that there on page 18 . If there is much interest in it, I could do something similar for the terraced buildings that you can see in the town centre. To make it easier to get custom buildings to grow you should try out this Tile Set Mod . ert90 and nooneatall told me about it. I have tried it yesterday and I wish I would have had it sooner. It makes building a city like this much easier. Traffic_Jam: Thank you for leaving a comment. The tour will be continued later this day. Come here again if you are interested.

tc13: Thank you for your advice. I will be more patient from now on. I am new to this whole CJ thing. So I don't really know how it works. jacqulina: Thank you for your nice words. I already feel a little better now. New roads in the village Some of my readers suggested to use the Euro Road Mod. I have tried it. And I will use it. I never thought that it will look so good. And it is nearly flawless. I only have discovered very few tiles with pieces of yellow lines. Many thanks to the creators of this fantastic mod. Here I will show you these pieces I noticed (although I believe that you are quite aware of them). This is also a way to illustrate how the village is looking now with the new roads. And the roundabout has its yellow stripes as well. But I don't think that it is disturbing very much. Actually, I rather like this little bit of diversity. As some of you might have noticed already, I am using the new dirty street mod. jeronij: If you are reading this, I want to thank you for the work you put in this mod. I like it very much. As I understand it, the dirty street mod changes the street/road intersection tiles as well. This leads to the following. I hope that some kind of teamwork between this two mods will be possible. Some way to let one mod know of the existance of the other so that the textures can be applied accordingly. Finally there are the great bridges over the brick canals. simgoober: If you are reading this, thank you for your fantastic brick canal set. It would be great to have Euro versions of your very good bridges, too. That's it for now. If I have enough time I will post the promised tour through the south of the village later this day. Please leave some comments if you want to see more of the village. After getting no replys to my third update for a long time I was already thinking that the interest in this had vanished. Thank you.

The United Kingdom Of Cordovia - A Royal Affair
barnatom replied to pipishere's topic in SC4 City Journals
I like your grand avenue very much. And your military complex looks good, too. But, is the runway long enough for the fighters to take off? I hope so. Please post some more. -
Oups! What is happening here? Anyone out there? No more comments? Has interest droped that fast? Please let me know if you want to see some more of the village. If nobody is interested I won't continue this. Thank you.
-
I like your air base. The layout of the runways looks very realistic. And the security fence too. I also like the rail tunnel under the runway. But if this rail line is a public one, it would never be aloud to run through the base! Those little fuel tanks add much to the realism. I like them, I never saw them before. Good luck for future development.

I just noticed: Nearly exactly 600 views in 24 hours. That means 25 visits per hour. That means nearly one visit every 2 minutes. And this is only one of many threads. Wow. Simtropolis must have an extremly large number of users. I am much surprised. Mikeaut1: Thank you for leaving a comment again. I am surprised myself about the number of congratulations that are posted here. Now there is one more. Thank you! mattw: Sorry. I think you misunderstoud. The pictures you are seeing here present a city I am building. For that I use various lots other people have put on the STEX (Simtropolis Exchange). None of the buildings you see is my own creation. I am just a mayor in the game. If you want to have the buildings I am using, search for 'gascooker' on the STEX and you will find almost everything you are seeing here. Or did you mean that you want to have the whole city? I think interchanging developed cities is nearly impossible. I still am not quite sure what you wanted to know. oroen: Thanks for another comment. I like marrast's walkways very much. In other cities I have build I used them quite often. BarbyW: Thank you for helping me again. I already have many of BSC farming stuff. So I will try to get all the nessecary parts together, although this always comes out a little bit difficult for us Mac users. Let's continue the tour. The afternoon of the second day in the village After finishing our lunch, we leave the White Swan very satisfied. The wether is nice, so we go for a walk through the outer parts of the village to see what can be discovered there. We head out of town, to the north. Immediately the building density is getting lower. We walk through rows of single or double homes which look all very similar. Of course, they all were build in the same period then the bigger manufacturing plants in the south of the town were founded. Soon we reach the north border of the village. Near to the forest some richer people have build their houses. After getting to the last street we turn to the east, following the street next to the surrounding forest. At the outbounding road some there are some small comercials which provide some services to the people in this area. At the last edge of the village we can only turn right, heading south then. Walking down this street soon we discover a tree nursery (is it named like that?). Following the street - which has converted to a more important road now - we get to the town centre again. After entering the narrow roads we soon pass by the bank we already saw this morning, although from the other side. We have reached the church again! From now on we know how to get to the Yorkshire Grey there we will stay for yet another night. It was a pleasant walk through the north of town, wasn't it? That's it for today. Tomorrow we will visit some parts south of the church. If you are interested, make sure to have a look. Comments and suggestions are welcome - as always.

Darmok: This is the first time I visit your CJ and I am very, very impressed. Such a great use of trees and parks and little trails and rivers and creeks and ... I am nearly speachless. One thing I don't like that much: The huge skyscrapers that are peaking out of your park-like landscape here and there. I think some of them are a little bit oversized for the places they occupy. But not counting that: Simply amazing.

Hello defecto! I like the story of this CJ. The beaches you have shown above are marvelous. On the previous page I especialy like this picture: The slightly turned houses in the middle one are looking great there. But I would take out the small one in the middle of them. It looks out of place. I think in the real world you would rather find a little green space there, or a parking lot. Otherwise great development. One question: There did you get the lot with the green traktors on it? Picture: I could use it very much in my village. (Thanks for leaving a comment there.) And to answer your question: I think the water is too green. Too green for a beach like this and too green for the shore of your bigger 'uglyer' cities. I would suggest a more neutral, blue colour, that can be used in every city and look good there. Keep on this good work.

Unbelievable... Already page two in less than 24 hours... Welcome to page 2 mattw: Welcome to simtropolis! I am fairly new here too. Thank you very much for posting in my thread. I am glad that you like the village. I have not changed the transport apart from using the NAM (Network Addon Mod). This Mod gives you many new intersections and other new possibilities like for example the roundabout you have seen here. It is a great addition to the game. I am from Germany. I don't have a left hand driving version. What do you mean by 'when do you hope to give it out'? I don't understand this. Question to others: Would it be possible for me to change the driving direction? TommyC352: Thank you for the nice reply. I hope you don't get to sad looking at it.

MrVegetable: Thank you. My first aim is to make this village as realistic as possible. And pleasing to the eye, of course. Kwakelaar: Thank you for the nice comment. To everyone who wants to help me out: I have seen this in ert90's latest CJ: He told me that it is a BSC lot. But I am unable to find it on the STEX. Does anyone know where I could get it? It would be a great addition to a farming area you haven't seen yet. Thanks for your help. The next update will be posted in a few hours. So - come around if you want to see it. Comments are always apreciated.

Pleasant Crossings == Deep in the Heart of Rhinestone Forest
barnatom replied to ert90's topic in SC4 City Journals
I like the pictures. Especially the new comercials. There did you get this farmer supply? I really could use it in my village. Thank you for helping. -
Comments so soon again! Thank You! sc4player: Welcome here. Thank you for the post. mntoes: Thank you for your suggestion. But I was unable to find this old village school you have mentioned. I searched the stex for 'village' and didn't saw it. Searching for 'school' was no succes either. Could you give me a link? nooneatall: Nice to see you again. I will look into this Euro Road Mod. Everyone seems to suggest it. You are asking for the Washington Mutual Corner Bank by don miguel. It is a great BAT - as all the others by him as well. ert90: I am glad to see you here too. You know that I like your latest CJ. Thank you for the compliment. This roundabout is part of the latest NAM. To get it you simply have to build a circle with the road tool. You will have to experiment a little bit with it. But it certainly looks good.

Graafsticht ... my vision on how a city should look
barnatom replied to NicolaiS's topic in SC4 City Journals
I simply like your work. Everything looks so real. Great idea to put a GLR-station on the bridge. And I appreciate your effort to get a wall to wall city. One question: Where did you get the drawing bridge for oppies canal set? -
vester_DK: This building you are asking for is the good old independence hall landmark, that has been part of the game since the beginning. Nice comment, thank you.

I give thanks to all of you who have commented so kindy. Those of you who have their own CJ will know how encouraging this is. debussyman: Thank you for the explanation and the picture. I remember noticing that other people pictures are looking better than what I saw in my game, having no ugly lines. But I thought it was the jpeg compression or the rescaling of them that caused this. Now I know better. I feel very sad. After you and hammo bringing it up, I see those ugly lines in every picture and I imagine how much better they could look without them. aleking: Nice comment. Nardo69: I am from Germany too. And I also have never seen the rural parts of the UK. I only have been to London. Thank you for telling me about the (not existing) lines in your PC version. jaqulina: Glad that you like it. E.J.C: The grid is already turned off as you can see in the very first picture on this page. In the lower left corner there is an area of open grass, there are no grid lines. If I press the 'g' button, I get lines there as well, but the ones on the sidewalks don't disappear. Thank you for trying to help. To everyone, and especially to every Mac user out there: As has been stated in above posts, I am having a problem with grid lines appearing between developed city-tiles although the grid is turned off. Does anyone know what could cause this? I already tried to change every setting in the game to get rid of them. Nothing works. Some PC users have told me that they never have this problem, but since I am playing on a little powerbook I ask for other Mac users to tell me if they have this lines or not. Edit: Shadow_Assassin: Thank you so much! Now I know what it is. But nethertheless I am sad, very sad, that it is unfixable. So - I will have to live with it. I am sorry for all the people viewing this. But I am glad that you like the village. End Edit. Any help is very welcomed. Now back to the tour. Welcome to the second day of the UK village tour After having a tasty breakfast at our temporal quarter, we want to visit the church of the village. Leaving the Yorkshire Grey we turn to the left and enter the road that will lead us to the church. (You remember the red telephone booth?) After only a few steps we pass a Spar Mini Market and reach another square. There it is. The church. A beautiful gothic church. Behind it is the local bank and a dentist office. In front of it we stroll through the green grass of the small park and relax a moment in the shadow of the trees opposite of the Spar and the street we have passed by. Exploring the area around the other side of the church, we discover a small beer garden. It belongs to the White Swan and looks too attractive to not have a drink there. To get to it we have to enter the pub by its main door. At the walls of the hall leading to the garden there are some pictures of the village that have been taken from an airplane. (Facing to the east.) And a second one: There also is a small map showing the principal roads of the municipal district. The garden with its tables and banks under the tree is so pleasant that we want to have lunch here. That's it for now. I will show you the afternoon tour to the north east part of the village later this day. I hope you like this update. And if you can help me to solve the problem with the grid lines, please post something. Edit: The mystery has been solved. Shadow_Assassin said it is an issue of the Mac version of the game.

Ok, I will help you. There is a tutorial right at the top of the Journal page there you can learn about hosting images offsite and how to insert them into your post. Read it! Here is a link to it.

Wow, this is growing really fast. I never thought of getting so many replies in less than three hours. Mikeaut1: Great that you like the village. Nearly every house you see in the pictures is gascooker's work. This was the purpose of the village. gurrgkud: I am glad that you like it too. Thank you for the compliment. sirgeoj2: It was my intention to get every single tile to be like I wanted it to be. Nice that you see the efort behind the pictures. Thank you. To everyone out there: hammo brought up this issue about the ugly lines between the game-tiles. As I have said some posts above, I always thought that this behaviour is normal. But debussyman seems to be surprised about it. Question: Is this a bug? Does anyone have this lines, or no one? Could someone tell me the truth about this? That would be very welcomed. I feel a little bit worried now. Edit: nooneatall: Thank you for your nice words. I already have this tileset mod. ert90 PMed me about it. But I haven't testet it yet. About this euro road mod I already heard. Is it flawless by now? I remember seeing CJs with it which had still yellow lines at some intersections.
-
Oh, this is the first time I see someone actually using the multihighways in a CJ. Great transport map. The shoreline looks very good and interesting. I wait to see how you will develope this new zone on Victory Island.
-
debussyman: Yes you are right. I forgot that. But all my cities look like this, since I started to play this game. I always thought this is normal. Don't you get those lines between developed tiles? I am playing on a Mac, perhaps it is due to that?
-
Oh, comments are coming in quicker than expected. Thank you very much dhoppeii, oroen, hammo, debussyman and Defecto. I like farms too. By the way, the grid is turned off. In the lower left of the first picture you see an open field of grass. There are no grid lines. These lines appear on the farms only. I don't know why. But thanks for giving help. The church is not far away from the market square. I just didn't post an image of it yet. You will see it tomorrow. I am glad that you like the village.
-
I cannot see any image. Please fix that. Good luck.
