A special for my regular visitor Alek: The region view: As you can see, the whole village is build in one medium city tile. There are no neighbours. And here the traffic view: jacqulina: I already posted many pictures of the residential areas in the last pages. But I will have a look and perhaps I can show you something soon.

jbridgman: Yes, you have it! It is exactly like you said. Now about how to know where the arrows have to be: At least for all gascooker's corner buildings you will need a lot like this: For some other corner buildings this will work as well. But perhaps there are others which require the orientation to be the other way round, I don't know. Nik-nik: Lets imagine that we stand in the middle of the intersection the corner building is facing. We look diagonally at the building in question, its edge directly pointing to our location. In this case the arrows of the lot have to point to the road to our right side. At least for gascookers corner buildings. I hope this isn't too confusing. lucarne: Welcome to Simtropolis! Thank you for leaving your first post here in the village. Merci beaucoup, et bienvenue! Nardo69: I am glad that I could give you some new ideas. And thank you for leaving a comment again. aleking, Hordijk and jacqulina: Thank you for your nice comments. If I find some time later, I will post some more images of the village. Any area you are interested in especially?

jbridgman: This is complicated... The corners... First: To get specific buildings on corner lots, the orientation of these lots is important. For example the Horse and Jockey Pub, it is the one on the intersection of the two avenues. You can see the lot it has grown on in some earlier pictures. All of gascooker's corner buildings have two front sides which have to face the roads. And to get them you always have to zone corner lots like this: And not like that: I hope you see the different orientation of the lots. If you don't use the right ones you will not get gascookers corner buildings. Second: To zone this type of lots you can use the 'alt' key. If you see that the zone you are laying down gets the wrong orientation, press the 'alt' key before releasing the mouse button. You will see how the zone-arrows flip to the other side. It isn't easy to predict to which side the game will orient the zones by default. This is a problem for 1x1 corner lots, because you are unable to see the arrows before finishing the zone. So you will have to try and to dezone if the lot gets the wrong orientation. Normaly, the zone-arrows point to the most important traffic network. For example they prefere avenue over road. And if there are two eaqual networks on both sides, you will get the right orientation in most cases. However, there are exeptions, but I don't know the rule for them to appear. I am sad that I am unable to explain it any better. I hope you will understand what I am trying to say.

Thanks to everyone who has left a message. I am really glad to get so much feedback! Alek: I like the combination of the irrigation canals and the bigger canals, too. Traffic_Jam: Thank you for you post! Nardo69: Thank you for replying. Perhaps you are right about the comercials. But it would be better to have propper british ones, wouldn' it? And have a look at the tutorial. Tell me if it is understandable. Deathtoall: Good to see you again! And thank you for your nice comment. jacqulina: Welcome again! And thank you for posting! sebrat13wildcat: Welcome to the village! I am glad that you think that the village captures the midland feeling. Thank you very much for commenting. Nik-nik: Yes, I already saw a preview of them in simgoober's thread. I can't wait for them to be released. organicsabre: Welcome to the village, too. Perhaps the next tutorial can help you a little bit. And about the british shops: Gascooker already told me that he has planed some comercials to go with his UK buildings. And thank you for your nice, long comment! pikatchoum: Welcome back! And thank you for your post. A small tutorial on gascooker's UK terraced buildings Note: It is usefull to allow only europe style buildings to develope. Otherwise the probability of getting gascooker's houses is even lower. Also usefull is Tolomar's Tileset Mod . Depending on the amount of coustom BATs installed it will raise the probability of getting gascooker's buildings. To get the buildings to grow, it is necessary to have enough demand for R$, R$$, C$ and CS$$. It is useful to raise the taxes for R$$$ to prevent them from showing up. This is the area in one of my testing cities we will develope: The first block will be filled with the R

Nik-nik: Thank you for posting. I am glad that the tutorial could help you! pikatchoum: Thank you very much for your nice comment! You are always very welcome here. Merci beaucoup! I hope you like this one, too. Some more canals... Today I will show you this: The southern farms and canals (Images in no particular order.) The next picture shows an area I am not very fond of, because it doesn't fit in the UK style. At least in my opinion. What do you british people think about it? Here another picture of it. I simply had to build this area, because of the comercial demand. We sure have a lack of good british comercials on the STEX. Haven't we? That's it. Do you like the farms and canals? And on another subject: If I find the time, I could do another tutorial on how to get gascookers buildings to grow like in this village. Do you want to have it?

Overpasses and Underpasses?
barnatom replied to Starcraftmazter's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you are looking for overpasses like this ones: have a look here: A UK village - page 6 . I posted tutorials on how to build them. You can easily apply them to 'rail over avenue' or 'rail over ground highway' as well. Hope this helps. -
Dear visitors Thank you for visiting and replying! I am glad that so many of you have left a comment on this pages. Alek: Thank you for posting again. You are a welcome visitor. gascooker: I am very glad to see you here! As everyone knows, this village would not have been possible without your fantastic UK buildings. And i say thank you again for sharing them. Whenever you release a new project, I will happily incorporate it in the village. And I hope to see some more UK style commercials soon. You are always very welcome here! Kwakelaar: Nice to see you here again! And thank you for leaving a comment. jacqulina: Nice to read another reply of yours. I am glad that you like the village. oroen: It is always good to here your opinion. I am glad that you like the corners. There will be some more pictures here soon, so have a look later. Nik-nik, Gryphonite and everyone interested: Thank you two for commenting. And to answer your question: Yes, I had to demolish a lot of unwanted buildings. I posted a little tutorial on how to get gascookers UK suburbia homes here: BSC Gascooker Emporium - page 18 . If you and others are interested, I could put together another tutorial on how to get gascookers UK buildings to grow. Just let me know about it. I will upload some more pictures soon. So - stay tuned...

aleking: Thank you for your nice post! jacqulina: I am glad to see you here again! And thank you for leaving this nice comment. Tennismaster1: Nice to see you again! Thank you for posting. The paths you are asking for are the BSC DAE Forest Track Lots ver. 1.05 , the little bridge is part of simgoober's BSC Irrigation Canal Set . I hope this helps. And, by the way, how do you go along with posting pictures? Gryphonite: Thank you for your comment. I am glad that I could help with the tutorials. Peng74: Hey, nice to see you again! Thank you as always. As requested by Deathtoall and vester_DK, the next update: Some corners in the village centre Do you like it? I am still waiting for more suggestions what to show next. So please leave a comment.

I had some time, so I made this one as well. Another tutorial on overpasses This is the bridge we will build this time: We start by raising the terrain using the good mode tools. Pressing 'shift+F1' will give you the best precission. And a street tile flattens the new little hill: Some more street tiles extend the higher terrain to the sides: After bulldozing the streets, we put a 'hole digger for sunken road' like this: Laying a road over the hole digger results in this: Now we demolish the road and build a new, orthogonal one. Some street tiles will flatten the terrain again: After bulldozing the street tiles we put the NAM pieces as in the last tutorial. This is it: What do you think? Does this help you? Ah, for the interested ones, I posted another tutorial on the use of the NAM pieces here: Show us your most unique and creative transportation network! Comments are welcome!

Nardo69: Thank you for this nice comment. I am glad that you like the pictures. FrenchBread: I have made a very small tutorial on how to get this kind of bridges. I hope it will help you. A little tutorial on making railway overpasses This is the bridge we will build: I will use the latest NAM and smoncrie's exellent hole digging lots . You will find this lots in your public transport menu. First we lay a road and two ground lifting lots like this: After laying two pieces of road over the ground lifter we get this: We bulldoze the roads and ground lifters and put down some street tiles to flatten the terrain: After demolishing the street tiles we put an 'railway on slope puzzle piece', you will find this piece in the NAM section of your railway menu (it is one of the last ones, so you can hold 'shift' while pressing 'tab' to cycle through the pieces in opposite direction): Then we put another 'on slope piece' on the other side and a 'railway over road piece' in the middle, and extend the rail tracks to both sides. This is it: I hope that this will help others, too. I will post some more pictures of the village as soon as possible. So, stay tuned. If you like this little tutorial, I could make another one to show how to build the overpass/underpass I used in the last post, or on anything else you want to know, too. Just let me know.

Thank you for answering my question. I will show you some more pictures of the railway. A new branch line has been constructed to connect the southern industrial area to the rail line. I don't have much time, but here are some images of it: Here the new rail line crosses the canal: And this is the not yet finished industrial area in the south: More pictures will be shown soon. So, stay tuned. And thank you for answering the question on page 5. I will be happy to post pictures of the areas you want to see here. And more suggestions are welcome.

Hey, nice to see another 'english style' CJ coming up! I like the region you are using very much. And the farms are looking good so far. And I like the little river that is running through 'Pleton-on-the-water'. And great use of the BSC hedges, too. I will follow this CJ with great interest. Perhaps I can get some inspiration for my UK village from here. And thank you for leaving comments in my UK village thread!
-
Hello dear visitors For my next update I would like to ask you, what kind of images you would like to see. This are the options: - More farmland - More of the canal system - More industrial areas - More of the village center - More surrounding forests and traffic networks - More of a specific place on the map - Anything else I haven't thought of It can be a combination of the above listed as well, since everything is very close to everything else. Remember, that the whole village is build on a medium city tile only. Please tell me what you want to see.

Thank you everyone for visiting and replying! SkyTearer: Thank you for this nice reply! The bridge you mentioned is a draw bridge. It isn't easy to see, but I hope you will notice it on this image: oroen: I am very glad to have you back here! Did you see the picture on page 3 I posted especialy for you? Here it is again: Deathtoall: Thank you for this compliment. Yes it is curious, me not being english making this kind of CJ. But it is due to gascooker and his exellent UK BATs that I started this project. pikatchoum: You are allways welcome here! And thank you for your nice post. I am sorry again. I am not able to post some new images here. Real life is going on. So - you will have to wait a little bit longer.
-
Hello dear visitors I am sorry, very sorry, that due to real life I will be unable to post any updates for some days. I am moving to another town, so everything is messed up a bit... freedo50: Thank you for these very nice words. This will help me to keep this CJ up. Peng74: I thought it migh be a joke, but since I am not that familiar with the english language, I had to ask. And thank you for commenting again! Shadow_Assassin: I am glad you like the village! Nardo69: Thank you very much for this nice comment! I am glad you like the landscape, too! chocolatemax285: Welcome to the village! I have seen your CJ, and I like it very much. Thank you for leaving a reply here. Whenever it will be possible, I will post some new pictures here. So - stay tuned. And thank you for leaving your opinion!

Rean2: Thank you for this compliment. Traffic_Jam: Wow, great comment, thank you, too! Peng74: Date: 8/27/2005 3:29:32 PM Author: Peng74 Date: 8/27/2005 9:45:26 AM Author: barnatom Peng74: You are one of my most frequent visitors! Due to your suggestion, the mining corporation is already considering to establish a small local office in the village. But nothing is decided yet. There will be some more pictures up here shortly. So - stay tuned.quote> I'm not stalking you, honest! I like to keep tabs on a good CJ is all. quote> My original post was by no means offensive. I just wanted to thank you for visiting this journal so often. And thank you for this post, too. It is good to know that someone out there has an interest in the village. So here is another update. It is a rather big one. I hope you will like the newly introduced subject. First I have to show you an image, that doesn't belong anythere special. But since it shows an area near to the eastern rail line I will post it here as an annex to the rail series. The local landfill: And now, with this is out of the way, up to the next chapter: The canal system The next image shows the canal entering the grounds of the village at the western border: I will simply post some pictures of the area in no particular order: And some close-ups as well: Do you like it?

Thank you all for visiting and commenting! freedo50: Thank you. And yes, the mines look like USA. But there are no others out here. jbridgman: Hey, another post. Thank you! I will use many different styles in the new region. There will be quite large cities, too. (If I ever finish the terraforming.) jacqulina: Thank you very much! Nice to see you here again. And I am glad that you like the details. mteach2000: Yes, it has been some time since your last visit. But I am glad that you are back and that you like the new developement. And thank you for leaving a post. Peng74: You are one of my most frequent visitors! Due to your suggestion, the mining corporation is already considering to establish a small local office in the village. But nothing is decided yet. There will be some more pictures up here shortly. The rail line is completed Well, this time I will only put one image here. It shows the most eastern part of the new rail line, at the other side of the hills. This is the completion of the rail series. Ok. After the rail line is finished, what do you want to see next? Or is there something you think should be build in the village? Let me know your opinion!

So many great pictures. I really like the way you have modified them. And this waterfront park is absolutely beautiful! Only those bushes look a little bit artificial. At least compared with the Maxis ones or the great Cycledogg flora. Your city has a very charming appearance, I like it very much. And thank you for answering the question about that latin phrase. As

Thank you Traffic_Jam and Mikeaut1. And because you like the mines I have uploaded another image of them. In this one you can see them both. Hope you like it! What do you think?
-
peng74: No, there won't be much developement on the western shore. But inside the bay there is plenty of buildable land. Mikeaut1: Hey, welcome back. I am glad that you like the terraforming. And thank you for the congratulation. And now a small update. New mines in the eastern hills Together with the rail a new kind of business has found its way to our village. Two new mines have been erected in the hills east to the town. This is the first one: Another picture of it: And behind the hills you can see the second one: Here is a better picture of it: That's it for now. I said that it is a small update only. More coming soon. And don't forget to leave a comment!

<reply to pretty much pointless rant> It has two reasons. First: It is meant as a tribute to the great work the owners of the names do. Second: It is to help other people to see quickly what I am talking about. </reply to pretty much pointless rant> Edit: A typographically better way would be to use 'small capitals'. But I don't think that they are available in the standard web-browser fonts. As well as they would be much harder to insert in your post.

All of gascooker's work is either to be found in the BSC Mac Archive or available as normal .zip files on the STEX. I am playing on a Mac, too. And I have used all of gascooker's amazing UK-BATs, as you can see in my UK village project. But I think that no new stuff is going to be added to the Mac Archive, because of FileJuicer, mentioned above. And another thing: PEG's work is also in .exe files here on the STEX but you can go to his support site . There you can download the normal .zip files after registering. Edit: Oh... I didn't see that this question was posted a month ago. Sorry.

<edit> Page 6 !!! </edit> ginchael: I like your region view very much. It is so nice that you have a downtown with many suburbs surrounding it. And the rivers and hills look great, too. And the new zoo is layed out very well. Keep it coming!

Welcome to page 5 !!! Wow, already page 5, in only one week! I had never thought about this topic growing that fast. Thank you very much to all of you for getting this along! Peng74: Thank you for your words. Yes, it is a nice station. And about the new region: I have worked a little bit on the west coast. I like the steep shore now. What do you think? Gryphonite: Thank you, too. I am glad that you like the attempt to realism. gandalfff30:
