Which is your favorite European country?
Uumke replied to tankmank's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Hey fellow dutchman! Do you like it too, when you drive your bike through the tailbacks? Well, I've voted Holland, because it's my home country and I love the Kroket and Frikadel (typical Dutch/Belgian snack) -
Yes, it could become the new capital. But not at this moment, but I think in 25 years it will certainly happen. In my country (The Netherlands), there are lots of Poles. Dutch managers let them work with a low salary. That's awful. Poles are famous in our country because they work so hard with low costs! That's terrible. Typical Dutch. But Poland seems to me a nice country. especially cities like Warsaw and Krakow. I thought the biggest TV tower in the world was in Plock?(600 meters high) Well, we'll see what happens in the next 25 years.

In Maastricht we have three MC's. -
well, if we look at economy, the US trade balance was negative, and the EU trade balance positive. So that means EU exports more then they import, and the US imports more then they export. It's so difficult to choose a city. I'll keep my mind on the Hague, even if it's not a big city. I don't think population is the most important, neither economy.

why discussing about the country's economies? what has that to do with the world capital?just pick a city and give some arguments

The Hague or Brussels

I'll go with amsterdam. The canal system is a very special landmark, and amsterdam is special too, because the city center is one of the best saved downtowns in the world. A big disadvantage: the city center is built on piles, so the buildings are sometimes crooked. There are also some typical dutch skycrapers and the tramways complete the city. You can also find some odd architecture, nice museums and more. I don't like it when you ask people about amsterdam and they say: coffeeshops and legal prostitution. Amsterdam isn't only coffeeshops, and that makes me angry when people say that. But anyways, I'll go with Amsterdam, Paris 2nd and London 3rd

Well, now it's my turn I'm gonna show you some Dutch highways (snelweg). The most busiest and beautiful highways are in the Randstad (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague), so I'm going to show only that,, but don't think there are no highways in the other parts of Holland, they certainly are there...Holland has one of the most dense highway networks in Europe. Let's start with the A4 near Schiphol airport during rush hour Here you can see intersection Kleinpolderplein near Rotterdam Amsterdam Ring road (A10) near knooppunt (intersection) Amstel And here you have the Amsterdam ring road west: A4 at Clausplein interchange near the Hague: A9 east of knooppunt Badhoevedorp, near Amsterdam A16 Ridderkerk-noord interchange, Rotterdam, with new flyovers The highest flyover is a 3-lane carriageway of the A15: A8 near Zaandam-zuid junction in direction Amsterdam: Here you see the Zeeburgertunnel, A10 Ring Amsterdam: Here is an odd thing, an aquaduct of a ringvaart (a canal around a polder), that crosses the A4 A4 Badhoevendorp interchange : 4 railway tracks in the median A15/A16 2 carriageways and 8 lanes per direction between Ridderkerk interchanges The most stupid thing i've ever seen: de Van Brienenoordbrug. This bridge can open, so there will be massive tailbacks. But an old dutch law says: At a bridge, you'll have to give way to ships so...... And this is the result: to the north, everything is stuck, and you don't see one car to the south. That's it, hope you enjoy Greets, Justin

Well I think you're making a mistake on your analisis of the dutch and belgian highways. There isn't a lot of room for highways, that's true. But if you look at the highwaymap of europe, you see that the hygway network in the netherlands, belgium and the ruhr-area in germany, are the most dense. It's true that the "autobaan" or "snleweg" aren't that wide. Their mostly 2 lanes in one direction, except for the major roads and ring roads around amsterdam, rotterdam, brussels and antwerp. The dutch roads are in a better condition than the belgian roads, you've got some bad asphalt there! but anyways, we all love highways don't we? I've noticed that the asphalt colour of the us roads are lighter than the european roads. Has anyone got an explanation for that? Here are some maps of the north-western europeam network. It aren't the best maps that i've found. But you can see that the highway network in holland, belgium and the ruhr area are denser than in the other parts of europe. Maybe, it's because the distances are smaller here in the netherlands. The largest number of km's on a road sign i've seen was : Amsterdam 194 and Maastricht 194.

Europe vs America vs Asia vs Oceania
Uumke replied to jere90's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Europe. Where I now live, the Netherlands. The are some bad thing about the Netherlands: Everyone has to analyse everything. On each litte thing, the dutch investigate everything. You'll get crazy of it. But we can smoke joints legal, and we have legal prostitution, so if you forbid this, it will be done illegal, so why don't make it legal? And there's of course a rich history, have you ever been in The Hague, Leiden, Amsterdam, Nijmegen or Maastricht? If you haven't, come and visit the dutch That's an expierience! My 2nd option would be australia. I love the crocodile hunter Steve. -
2050 In the Netherlands, the city of Randstad will be founded. So that's Amsterdam, The Hague, Haarlem, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden and some more towns and city's, as one big metropolis. "Het groene hart"(translated: The green hart), will be the ''central parc'' of the Randstad. Now this is an area with a lot of farms, and the typical dutch landscape with windmills etc.. In my region (southern Netherlands, Limburg), my village (Meerssen) will be a part of the town of Maastricht. And there will be a new town, called Parkstad Limburg, with about 200,000 inhabitants.
-
I often make a litte ring around the center, of one way roads. But the really center, at the beginning. About 15 by 15 blocks. Then I create an avenue-ring around the newer part of the city, if I have about 25.000 inhabitants. Then when the city is bigger, I start to creat rings with highways. But sometimes I use for North-South highways , and East-West avenues.OR vica versa. But that's when I don't have ''enough'' money.

where can I find these?

if you want those left turn lanes, do you have to put a certain .dat file in the plugins folder? because I have NAM but I don't see the left turn lanes.
