  1. Long ago, some explorer guy named Justokre landed on some new land. He figured he'd call the place "New Landings." The place developed pretty well, focusing mostly on industry. Half the population lived outside the city, in suburbs. This was what the region looked like. But many problems came to Justokre, who was a seasoned explorer, but not a seasoned urban-planner. Things were stagnating. Random demands seemed to rise and fall with no sign of balancing out eventually, or responding to any of his attempts to satisfy them. And then, the final conclusion to New Landings, a nuclear meltdown. Power was gone. A major industrial sector has went up in flames, and hazardous radiation occupied the now-uninhabitable center of the city. A city of almost 100,000 was devastated, and the economy was ruined. Justokre of course made an attempt to revive the city... Demolishing larger structures in favor of smaller ones in an attempt to get a better grasp on the ever-fluctuating demands... but it was a failure. So, using advanced technology, he obliterated the city, removing all traces of existence. He sent inhabitants back to the home country so he could rebuild their city for him. However, the suburbs remained. And this is what Justokre said to his girlfriend about it in an online messaging conference: Her: Still working on trying to fix your city? justokre: Yep. It got ruined via Nuclear Meltdown, so I had to restart it. Her: Ick justokre: Yeah, it was f**king horrible. justokre: It was taking ridiculous amounts of work to fix. Rezoning like the entire city... So I figured it'd save me a lot of annoyance and possibly time to just start over. Her: Probably Her: Hope it goes better this time justokre: Well, it's going better, but it's still retarded. Wanna know why? Her: Sure justokre: Keep in mind that my neighboring cities all had a decent population. 50k, 60k, and 10k. That's a lot. With the loss of all citizens, commerce, and industry in New Landings, all the suburban inhabitants of the neighboring "cities" lost their jobs. Every city in the game is frozen unless you are specifically building on it. So those people stayed there, causing the demand for dirty industry to go WAY up. Neo Landings is surrounded by poor suburbs, remember? Not only that, but to make matters more retarded, there was demand filtering over from the neighbors for middle-wealth residential ONLY, and high wealth commerce ONLY. So I had to start with a completely unbalanced demand ratio. Her: ughh justokre: Haha yeah, but I figured it would be possible, because as long as I built those factories, they'd bring me money, cuz people needed to come into the city to work. If I had really wanted to, I could balanced things out by spreading out the industry throughout the region.. but no. That's boring. And besides, I like the idea of one city being massively pollutant, and then have other areas of peace and beauty. Her: yeah Her: good idea justokre: I can talk more about it, if you want Her: sure =) be as geeky as you want justokre: kk, I'm gonna make a map for ya. Then I might post all this in the forum. justokre: F**k, guess what I just did that was totally retarded/ Her: What? justokre: Well, it's not THAT bad, but its kinda lame. I forgot to re-rotate the map angle, so now its showing north as being east. Oh well… > > >*** > The city has a population of just over 40k now. This map shows most of my plans. I also plan on putting a Nuclear History Museum near the old explosion site. I think I'm doing a much better job of planning this time around. If you folks have any tips or suggestions for me, I'm really interested in hearing them. I'm definitely still learning this game!>>
