  1. Hi, A lot of my cities now prompt me to 'Reconcile edges' when I open them. I always say 'no', because if I did, it would be a heck of a time to re-build connections and areas at the edges. Is there any downside in not reconciling edges? Does everyone not build on the outer 4 squares of each city? Thanks.
  2. Reconciling Edges

Hey, thanks all. I think I'll go and see how much work it would be to reconcile them all and then stay away from the edges. If it's too much work, I won't worry about it. Cheers.
  3. highways

I've used ground Highways fairly effectively to connect cities to each other. I run them by the side of development and then branch off roads or avenues into the developed areas. Seems to work OK. Cheers.
  4. Hi, What effect does traffic congestion have on the game? Now that my region is getting more fully developed etc., I regularly have bus stops that are overused, and my passenger rail stations (some of them) are way overused. However, I can't tell what effect it's having on the game. Everything seems to be chugging along nicely. Thanks.
  5. Traffic Congestion

Thanks. I don't think that more and more traffic each time you open a neighbour is a bug. It's the game figuring out where all the jobs are and shifting population traffic around to get there. So, If I have an over congested bus stop, or rail station, what's the solution? I tried putting another bus stop right next to the overused one, but then one was still way overused, and the other one hardly used at all. That's a bug that needs fixing in the next version! Cheers.
  6. low EQ in city

What I find works well is: Elementary school and library coverage for your residential areas. A museum downtown. A Univeresity or College. I don't bother with High Schools - too expensive. Make sure your schools provide enough funding for everyone, and off you go. Cheers.

I'd never seen it before but was surprised to see that I follow some of it anyway! For example, I live on Harvest Circle and have cities named South Harvest, Harvestburg, Lower Harvest etc. and also functionally named ones such as Powerville and River Rapids and such. Cheers.
  8. I would, and am, living in the USA. Specifically the San Francisco Bay Area. Although house prices are through the roof, the ameneties and standard of living is great. Oh yeah, the weather (30 miles in from SF) is great also. Cheers.
  9. Biggest Regional Population

Mine's at 1.75 million and growing. Cheers.
  10. Posting picture issues

Hi, Well, let me know if you can see this picture, and which browser you're using. I can't see it with Mozilla v1.7 on Solaris. I'm pretty sure I can see it on Safari on Mac OS X at home. Cheers.
  11. Posting picture issues

" " and " " What's the difference? They are both jpgs from photobucket and I can see the other one, not mine. If anyone knows the answer, this could crack it. Cheers.
  12. Posting picture issues

But I can see this one: and this one and mine are both jpg hosted at photobucket. I'm confused
  13. Posting picture issues

Thanks. So maybe it's just an issue with Mozilla. Can anyone try mozilla on a different OS? BTW: It's a jpg. SHould I be using gif instead? Cheers.
  14. Simtropolis Site Bugs

I'm having a couple of problems: 1. My text formatting is all messed up when I post from my Mac using Safari. This is posted at work using Mozilla on Solaris and the formatting is fine. 2. I'm having trouble posting pictures. I put some pictures up last night, hosted at photobucket, and they were showing fine under Safari. Then I try to look at them here, and they've vanished. Indeed, if I go to edit the post (in private topics), there's just this little box there instead, not the Anyone know what's going on with either of these? It MUST have something to do with using Safari on a Mac, presumably. Cheers.
  15. trainer for sim city4 (MAC)

Hi, I would suggest trying to learn how to make a profit in the game itself without using cheats. Find out what works, what doesn't and work on that. You'll find it much more rewarding in the long run. If you want a good starting $ balance just play a city on the easy setting. Here are some pointers. Develop Industrial first. They only require power and will generate some income for you. I would suggest a Coal Plant to start, but set the funding low (about $15?). Then zone quite a bit of medium industrial and let it play for a while. You should soon see income > expense. Adjust funding of the Coal Plant as necessary. Then pause and zone some C (light or medium) and some R (light or medium) with no water/health/education (or maybe just some elementary schools). Let it play for a while. Your income should start to be much > expenses. Then, after it's developed a bit, start zoning for more RCI and placing the minimum of services needed (water for C, water/health/education for R). Build a Waste to Power and set funding to 0 for garbage control. Build libraries and museums for extra ed. Build a fire station (once you have a fire) and police once your crime starts to get high. Well, that's my advice anyway. Cheers.
  16. Confused Building Issue

Hi, Wow, that looks like a tough one. Are you sure you play for long enough in each city before going back to the other one? I find it usually takes a few months to recalculate etc, and for traffic to settle down. To understand you more. You're saying you have developed your industrial on the left. That is, places medium zones and had lots of industry grow already, right? And, you're saying you do have residential growing, right? But that they just don't travel to the other cities? How can they just be moving around the residential city if there is no C or I there? Some pictures might help. Cheers.
  17. Hi, My region: Cheers.
  18. Trying to post a pic

Hey, sorry about the protocol goofs. Got it. Private topic for trying things out. And, please go ahead and delete this thread it you want to, that would be fine. I don't need it moved anywhere, or to continue to exist. Cheers. BTW: I've been experimenting and posting in a private topic. Just go to Photoshop Elements 4 and re-size to 75% and then upload and it works great! Still go ahead and delete this thread oh great monitors, if you want.
  19. Trying to post a pic

Hi, Is that picture too big?? I read that 800x600 was the biggest it could be, but don't know how to tell if it is. Also, how would I get a smaller picture? I just took a picture from the game, opened it in Photoshop Elements, saved as a jpg, uploaded to photobucket and put the url here. Thanks and Cheers.
  20. By break out of the caps, he really means increase the caps. There are certain caps on RCI inherent in the game. For R, you can increase the caps by adding Parks and Tennis courts and other beautifying features. For C, you add plazas and other buildings that increase the caps. Caps are the limits of what the population will grow to. Cheers.
  21. How to get money?

And my advice is to start with Industrial and let it stew for a while. Build a Coal Plant. Set the funding very low. Start zoning lots of medium Idustry zones and let them grow. Anly when you're making a good profit off them, start branching out and placing light/medium commercial and residential. Don't listen to advisors and only build fire station when you get a fire. Start with water for your commercial and residential after a while, and then move on to education and healthcare for your residential. Constantly manage the funding of your power/water/education/healthcare so that it is just above requirements. Water/Power about 80%. Education/Healthcare 90-95%. Cheers.
  22. Trying to post a pic

Hi, As you can see. Grids Galore!! My first region and I'mn trying to get the population as high as possible, while trying some experiments also. Realville is my attempt at something a bit different and not going for maximum population. Edgey is extreme gridding to the max! Cheers.
  23. Trying to post a pic

    Wow. much better. Cheers.
