  1. Reviews of Cities XL

I felt like gamespot's review hit the nail on the head(1-2). They pointed out a lot of the good, but they also shared what they felt held the game back. I also found it intersting that they were.... I guess you could say complementing City Life(3), i wasn't expecting that since i had only heard bad things about the game from the community here. 1. "Taking a city builder online like this is long overdue, so kudos to Monte Cristo for making the attempt. But boos to Monte Cristo for shoddy implementation. For starters, the online aspect of the game is shoved in your face too much. You need to register the game and log online to play the single-player cities, which is unnecessarily intrusive and makes offline play seem like an afterthough." 2. "As engaging as Cities XL can be for those who appreciate straightforward city building, the game is only halfway there. The single-player mode has clearly been manipulated to nudge gamers toward the MMO-styled subscription plan, which doesn't offer great bang for the buck at present." 3. "Where those games tried a different approach to city building with six different demographic groups of citizens that you had to keep separated to avoid riots, the game design here is more of a straight-up SimCity clone. This is pretty disappointing, as the class warfare of the City Life games made for challenging urban planning" Link: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/citiesxl/review.html
  2. Modern Warfare 2 going to far?

Never mind Fallout 3 was a ruined DC. It also included the surrounding area. I don't think it's that bad, i mean poor new york gets destroyed in movies, games, Tv shows, all the time.
  3. Reviews of Cities XL

Lets play a game. Lets pretend that i am the average, hardcore gamer. I enjoy citybuilding games and strategy games, but i'm not a Super hardcore SC fan (i don't mod, i don't use many mods ecept things like NAM, i don't treat it like an artist's canvas like some players do .) I want to buy Cities XL, i mean it did well on IGN! And i'm sure other reviews will give it similar ratings! But... At the same time i read all of these topics about how much the game stinks! Who should i believe and why? (This scenario does apply to me quite well, but i'm sure i can't be the only one!) (Assuming i HAVE played simcity, and love it. But, the IGN review did say it was moving the Genre in the right direction...)
  4. Reviews of Cities XL

There is one critic rating on metacritic... Anyone want to translate for us?
  5. Yea I've had my anti-virus throw up red flags when i've started games before.
  6. Reviews of Cities XL

All the topic got merged into bigger topics. I know this because i would be reading something and then i would realize that i had a few of the posts earlier, but i hadn't read any of the posts around them. on the subject of reviews, it could take Gamespot/IGN/1 up a very long time to get a review up.
  7. If this is true, that's just ridiculous. I mean if i can play my steam games offline i should be able to play cities offline.
  8. Will Monte Cristo work with the community?

If the game develops like you guys hope, sure i'lll jump on board. But thats the only way i'll jump on board.
  9. Da Vinci Masterpiece Hidden

It's going to be a painting of a pear or something Still, that is interesting.
  10. Crisis in California

Yea i would like to see where that came from. Not because i don't believe it or i don't agree or something along those lines, but i like the way that person writes. Posted before i could Anyways. I really do hope cali can pull out of this mess they're in right now. And I'm not sure if a lump sum of money will do the trick this time.
  11. Reviews of Cities XL

Oh snap the game comes out THIS Friday. I totally lost track of September. Anyways, we should request that Zero Punctuation review Cities
  12. Who owns the PO cities?

I'm not really sure, those are good questions. Especially numbers 1-3

  14. Calculating the cost of CitiesXL

  15. Cities XL Question

Originally posted by: KidsGameHunter Monte Cristo has a solid history of not making 64 bit comptatible games when I ran City Life: World Edition it said "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." After I preloaded Cities XL after pre-ordering it, I was wondering if I could run in solo anyway. So I ran the program, and it said the exact same thing. The demo worked fine for me. I hope this message is just some temporary thing and not a something that made me waste 40 bucks pre-ordering the game.quote> You should be fine, usually if a demo runs then the game will run. Usually. It would be rediculous if the Demo didn't give you that error but the game did.
  16. Solution to Cities XL problems

No one has to officially boycott, people just simply won't buy the game because they don't want to. And if it's not working out for MC, they will try to reel us in. It's all about the business.
  17. Simulation? Plop? Game? Where is the line drawn???

I just wish things had turned out differently... I don't know, i really like cities XL and honestly i didn't mind the UI. Some of the percentages were a bit wacky and didn't make sense but overall i got what MC wanted me to see. I liked the curved roads, even if they aren't as pretty as Tropico 3's i really enjoyed the zoning and i liked how as a city builder i had to think about a cities attractiveness. I enjoyed building roads and trying to fit houses in so that i looked complete and trying to mix my commercial in with all my residential. Overall, i like cities XL i really do! It's just that i can't afford the time and money needed to play it like MC wants me to play it, and it's very disappointing!! I don't have WOW or XBL for the same reason that i won't get cities XL.. I don't have time or money! Simple! If i knew i was going to get PO i would be very excited for the game because off all the things MC is promising through that system. But, as i stated, i don't have the time or money right now so i can't participate. Even though i would love to
  18. Blog interview.

I... i don't know. I felt like it cleared up a lot of things but at the same time confirmed my fears. I would really like to get into this game, i really would. But i'm a poor college kid, i can barley afford the game much less the PO. Now i know it's not a lot of money when you look at from a distance, but if i'm paying for a game i would like to be able to play it and get my moneys worth and i don't know how much time i'll have with school and what not. Thats why a single player mode appeals to me. Also, what if i don't want to mess with other people? What if i don't want to trade with other people? What if i just want to design a city.
  19. I would be sooo pumped if there was a Mass transit GEM.
  20. Thats very disappointing, I would have loved to see it in store along with maybe a PO 3 month card or something like that (Play as you want kinda thing, so one isn't forced to constantly renew), but i'm happy to see that shipping is free!
  21. I would try best buy, target, or wal mart before gamespot. Target for some reason always has the best supply of PC games where i live.
  22. CXL Pricing-Is Monte Cristo serious?

Yea it's not the 10 dollars that's makes me mad, it's what we get (or, don't get) for that money. I mean that doesn't mean that i'm never ever going to play it though. What it means is that right now, at this point in time, there is nothing i'm willing to pay for. I don't care what others say about "oh it's not that much money" or "thats pocket change" It's my money, and i could care less what others say about my spending of it. if i don't feel something is... Complete, i won't buy it. (I'll wait and buy Mw2 or wait even more and get Bioshock 2)
  23. I would think that that would be a tough thing to do. It sounds like if a game is "monocore coded" that's going to be hard to change.
  24. You honestly don't need 4 cores to play any PC game. 2 cores should be sufficient for Cities, and what ever game you may want to play. Now i'm sure this will change, just give it time, but as of right now games rarley use more than 2 cores. I would recommend a fast intel dual core though, maybe that's just my bias speaking, but i think they perform better overall. Spend the money on a GPU instead.
  25. The Mass Transit Discussion Thread

*sigh* I really wanted to get this game
