  1. Mapp Squad Albuquerque NM

    Version 1.0

    832 Downloads

Requested by KingJobs, here is the Albuquerque, NM. The cityitself is shifted slightly West so that I could capture the mountainrange to the East. My preview of this region is presented using Teirusu's Desert/Plains terrain mod. This is a very large region at 40km by 36km or 10x9 large cities, but will be available shortly in pre-rendered format. Toovercome height limitations in the games import system, this map hasbeen designed for use with a variation on Andy80586's Higher Mountainmod, which should be in your plugins directory during the import. (Unnecessary for pre-rendered regions, but you'll need it if you everwant to render with the included greyscale) Get the mod here. Thanks go to Andy80586 & MallowTheCloud for their work on these mods! Please post any requests to the Official Mapp Squad Requests forum thread. Visit my Simtropolis/Mapp Squad forum thread for larger previews, questions or support for released maps, or just to see what I'm working on. For more information regarding the Mapp Squad, please see our ST forum. Ihave no concerns about copyrights for my maps, so you may use them asyou wish, but I would appreciate a credit or a thanks if you use themin any public fashion. This may not apply to all Mapp Squad maps- please check with each individual author for more information. Thanks, and enjoy your new region! Comments & suggestions are always welcome! Note:I've noticed sometimes that SC4 doesn't want to import my maps afteryou select it in the dialog - After renaming them to a shorter namesuch as "test.jpg", it seems to work fine - so if you have troubleimporting, you might want to try that.
  2. Hello everyone! I've recently joined the Mapp Squad - I'd like to say thanks to RHF & TNS for enduring my questions, concerns, & sometimes short temper. I have a few maps available all ready and you are welcome to browse them and see what you think. Up until this point, I have only released maps of actual areas in Pennsylvania - I love my home state, and will continue to make these maps for anyone that wants them, but lately I have been wanting to expand my horizons by doing other states and also international maps. I also have been dabbling in fictional maps - this is something I'm especially excited about. I've been using GIMP for a couple years now (but never for this purpose), and have recently been experimenting with other programs - and I am excited about my results so far! As soon as I have additional maps in the works, I will post them here so you can all preview and comment on them. Users of my maps are also welcome to post questions, comments, concerns, & suggestions to this thread. Another special thanks to MallowTheCloud for his awesome tutorial , without which, I probably wouldn't be doing this! I have enjoyed making maps so far, and I look forward to working with the Mapp Squad on making many more. Thanks everyone! Edit: Thanks BarbulaM1, for fixing the title
  3. Thank You

Yes, thank you zachary! It's nice to see someone getting inspiration from us! But don't see it as a competition... I can really only speak for myself, but I don't think we compete against eachother to see who can make the best maps... We just do what we can to contribute - nothing really different from what you've all ready been doing I didn't think my maps were good enough to be on the Mapp Squad at first either, but after making a few and getting a little more comfortable with the process and the forum, I decided to join anyway - and I'm glad that I did, and I hope the Squad is glad to have me around! As for PM'ing people, see the Private Messages link at the top of the page? Click that, and it'll take you to your PM inbox where you can read messages sent to you, and from there, you can click Compose to create a new message. You can PM anyone on the system as long as you know their username - just enter it in the box, enter a subject & some text, and send.... It's easy Thanks again, and keep up the good work - your maps look great! And I hope to see many more in the future!

Alrowan: Yeah, I have a bad habit of setting the water color to 0, I'll try to take more care in the future - sorry about that, but I'm glad you like it! KingJobs: You're very welcome, and the second portion of your request - Sante Fe, NM - has been released and should be available within a few minutes. Here is a preview:

Requested by KingJobs, here is the Sante Fe, NM. Ifyou're looking for better accuracy, you might have to do a littleterraforming where the river passes thru city borders. And you'llhave to use your imagination a little where the river goes thru themountains. My preview of this region is presented using Teirusu's Desert/Plains terrain mod. This is a fairly large region at 32km by 32km or 8x8 large cities, but will be available shortly in pre-rendered format. Toovercome height limitations in the games import system, this map hasbeen designed for use with a variation on Andy80586's Higher Mountainmod, which should be in your plugins directory during the import. (Unnecessary for pre-rendered regions, but you'll need it if you everwant to render with the included greyscale) Get the mod here: 2500m.dat *** Thanks go to Andy80586 & MallowTheCloud for their work on these mods! Hi Alrowan, The terrain renders correctly but just at the wrong height? It's probably an import mod of some kind conflicting... Might you have CycleDogg's Columbus terrain mod? If so, check this post for which files to check for and (re)move from your plugins directory. Also check for the original import.dat mod and remove that one if it exists as well. If all else fails, you can try moving all of your plugins (except 2000m.dat) to a temporary place, render the map, and then move them back. Hope that helps, but let me know if it doesn't!

Thanks tijn21, TNS, & KingJobs! Albuquerque has been released - here's a shot of the final render - the most obvious change is just a little smoothing so that it doesn't look so blocky: This map requires a modified version of Andy80586's higher mountain mod - Thanks to the original author, Andy80586, for the mod and MallowTheCloud for his changes which should allow us to create more accurate (height-wise) maps then ever before! Grab the required version here .

Date: 7/9/2005 11:55:49 PM Author: MallowTheCloud Congratulations on your custom label! Kinda hard to read, but you definately deserve it. That map looks awesome! quote> Thanks so much Mallow! I'm still working on the map, but I wanted to make sure I got the basic layout correct. The label color being so bad is my fault - I requested a change to dark red - hopefully that will look a bit nicer. Thanks also (again) for your help with the mod - I think it's gonna make these accurate maps MUCH better and easier to make.

Thanks for noticing vidioman! That was just added today (Thanks TNS!), and I'm waiting for a color fix so that it's easier to read... but that's probably why it's not on there yet...
  21. Official Mapping Community Requests

KingJobs: I've got a preview of Albuquerque up for review. If you could check it out and let me know of any suggestions or thoughts you might have, I would appreciate it! I hope I'm on target - let me know
  22. lookinins Mapp Squad maps

Sorry for the short delay in taking requests... I'm working thru a small case of the summertime blues I suppose... But now it's back to work... Here's a preview of what I'm working on now - Requested by KingJobs , here is Albuquerque, NM. This was rendered using a modified version of Andy80586's higher mountain mod, which I will find a way to provide, and is presented using Teirusu's Desert/Plains terrain mod . It still needs a little smoothing out, but what I'm curious about is if someone more familiar with the area than me can verify the placement of the river. It's difficult to tell from satellite data exactly where it should be with regards to the rest of the terrain - I think I'm pretty close tho. Albuquerque itself is slightly West of center so that I could capture the mountain range rather than having just the flat city area. This is a rather large region at 40km by 36km. Hope you guys like it - any thoughts or suggestions?

Well, I was a little slow on getting here, but I ran the whole way *wipes away the sweat* Not before long, the crime was back down and the people began to breed.quote> That line made me giggle for some reason, not sure if you meant it funny or not Excellent writing & great pictures - looks like you're off to a great start! I like the way those new highway walls look and the reservoir looks great! Good luck with your new CJ, and sorry to hear about the loss of San Portello!
