I hope my game isn't broken, but even after four years of owning SC4, I am having a slow time getting the feel of everything. This whole time, I am being frustrated because I cant seem to make my very First zones grow. Its as if the game play freezes on me. Please help, i really want to learn to appreciate my game that i mever been able to use to the fullest.

What exactly are those tips to boost demand in the tutorial? I dont exactly see it. Do you mean the plaza thing?

I took the "Making Money" tutorial and it tells me to try and continue playing the city, building up to 20,000 sims. Well, how exactly does it work? It says Tip: Begin by building more residential zones. Well, I zone an area as big as all hell, but I don't even come close to 20,000 sims. What is it wanting me to do?

How do I figure out a zoning pattern that supports 2 sims per job?

Im familiar with all those. But am I zoning too small or large? Do I need to zone roughly a certain size?

Finally got it to launch.

In which Wine directory? there is dosdevices and drive_c directories. While I still consider myself relatively new to Linux (tried it on and off over the years now) I am getting closer to knowing a lot about how to get around.

It doesn't launch from that directory when I double click. The installer finishes on a "Please wait" prompt and when I do double click on it, I get a "busy" mouse cursor for awhile, but it then goes back to normal and nothing happens. I did solve that issue with the DVD drive not working. And I was wanting to workaround without having to download a shady Crack thanks.

That did nothing. When the installer finishes, the game doesn't auto launch like it's supposed to. And whenever I type that script in, it doesn't launch either. Instead it returns to the usual terminal prompt.

Hello, my DVD drive doesn't work anymore for my computer and I want to find a non-virus ISO file used with a licensed retail English language copy of SimCity4 Deluxe. I need some help.

Let's see, I might purchase a digital version, but wouldn't that be kind of an ineffective waste of money, considering I already have a working CD and key? And if this discussion was off-limits, mods should feel free to close this thread.

Are there any SC4 videos on YouTube using the natural growth route? All i see are the bulls everything at once videos.

Can the decay of a regional core city downtown be simulated in SC4 with the residents and jobs moving to the different suburbs of a region? I thought that sims in one city can move inbetween different maps, but is this correct? BTW I'm slowly starting to finally get the hang of things by getting anything other than low-wealth RCI.

Hey I actually live closest to one of these cities in real life.

OK I focus too much on even getting my zones off the ground in the very beginning (my zones don't want to seem to grow and even freezes growing after a few sim-months have passed). I hope it's just not my game or my computer. And I forgot all about what to do after that. There seems like there is too much info to concentrate on in this game, and concentration and focus is something I'm really bad at. I just want a guide with visual illustration or video to see how it's done for somebody just starting who touched SC4 but never been able to get the hang of everything. This happens with every computer game I play. I touch it, but I still never get the hang of anything at all and get distracted by other things. Sorry for my long wall of text.

When ever I first attempt to start a city just playing around on a blank region map, whenever I first zone it seems like I have negative demand in one of the three areas (R,C,I) and what is the best way to fix this? I think I read in one of the Omnibus tutorials that you would just have to wait for demand to rebalance again. I also don't want to develop too small at once so I don't want to overly-tiny villiage. And how much do you guys recommend I try zoning at once, especially for my first zones?

OK, what's a better example of a layout of a Downtown/CBD than a grid. I hope to make separate suburban/rural areas too. Also, I need to understand. Is Downtown/city-center/CBD meant for mid/high dense residential, offices only, or can industrial be included on that same tile? Weird thing, I love this game and want to learn, but am kind of ignorant about how settled areas operate and are structured in the real world. But I do know that suburbs generally have sprawling random streets and rural is considered not urban or suburban, and that residences in a city's core are high-dense or apartments.

Thanks for all this help. Now, I have another question, but I will ask it in here than create yet another separate thread. Does the city grid layout need to be accross most or all of the entire lot? And how do I improve my planning skills needed for this game (I assume I am a natural growth player if it helps)?

I haven't played Simcity 4 in a long time and I want to get back into it. I'm really rusty with all my previous knowledge, I can't remember anything about how to start and maintain a city. I know that the SC4 videos on Youtube go against the conventional newbie advice (building a lot of services immediately). Also, what's a good path for someone who was never able to successfully maintain a city before?

When I first start a new city and fill with zones, they don't build as fast as I want them to. They don't build up 100% at all. They only build for a little bit and stop. I tried everything I can so far. I even tried using ratios for RCI like 4:2:1, 3:1:1, etc. and I stink at creativity of figuring out new layout designs. Although with square zones, I have made pretty interesting combinations. But it still won't build up fully. This is the whole reason why I was never able to maintain a full city before, even after all these few years of playing around with the game. I have completely vanilla SC4 so far with no updates or mods but I plan to update the version and use Network Addon Mod. Also, can somebody explain to me what "build up before you build out" means.

I want to start with the agricultural community and I need a layout/zoning example for it.

We all have odd habits while using the computer. What are yours? One of them I have is that I backup all my data and reformat to a fresh new hard drive out of boredom.
