Well, ok, so i tried running it with the sound enabled, and it did not crash this time. So I really don't know how i got it to work! Also ran dxdiag, all it says is "no sound was found". I have another problem now, though-the graphics are "glitchy"(?), they are terrible, Fine at first but after a little times goes by menu starts disappearing, or custom content becomes black and/or fades in and out. Any suggestions?

I had a terrible time trying to get SC4 to work on windows 8.1, but I finally managed to get it work. I am not saying this is THE solution, I am just offering what finally worked for me. I am still really new at this game, so bear with me. I downloaded the SC4 launcher, set it to: autosave-enabled graphics-direct x audio-all disabled game-skip intro cpu-1 core, high Now I am not sure which is the one that finally made it run, but since I found out that I do not have an onboard sound card and disabled the audio, I am betting that one did it.(it was thing i did different right before it started working.) Anyway, I spent several days trying EVERYTHING (getting more and more angry!), and I thought I would share the simple solution that nobody has mentioned yet in all the pages of possible solutions I read. Hope this helps somebody!

Thank you for responding, z1! I have come a long way in the past couple of weeks- I discovered and finally figured out how to use the SC4PIM (the better lot editor) which has pictures of most the props. The main reason I wanted to change the names in lot editor was so I could remember what they were without having to open every file, which was a pain for me because I had not yet figured out how to delete anything in the LE! However, thanks to the tutorial in sc4pim i learned the commands, which are basically the same in the LE. ( I am newbie to computers in general as well, and it did't make sense to me that the LE had no file menu or nowhere to click on "delete" "rotate" "undo", ect. LOL had no idea there were basic commands on keyboard! Anyway, I never found a tutorial for the LE that would have helped alot, maybe someone could write one for the new people in simple terms? Oh yeah, maybe a tutorial for ilives reader "for dummies"? I want to play with that program but it is complicated! Thank you for your time, I love this game! The possibilities are endless, and its cool there is such a dedicated fan base...cristenyoon79

I would like to be able to rename files in lot editor so i know what they are. I wish that I could reorganize using the files without all the "0x000's" even though i know somehow they are important. I am still extremely new and i have downloaded every tool there is (i think). Most of them do not do what i am looking for. Need some suggestions please!
