How would you fix this design flaw?
darkritual replied to darkritual's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I figured it out after 3 attempts. 120k population, no public transport and no traffic. The low wealth residents are forced to take the two overpasses to go to school and work. The traffic caused by students is instantly eliminated due to the schools being on the overpasses. Finally, the high & medium wealth residents living in the center are forced to take the avenues on the sides to get to work. I'm making 10k an hour with taxes only at 9% and the city is nearly finished. All there's left to grow is the other half of the low wealth sky scrappers in the center of the residential neighborhood. And of course, wait until the center is filled with high wealth and medium wealth towers. Here's the finished product, I turned it into an electronic city filled with high and mid wealth commercial/residentials. I've left a few low wealth sky scrappers here and there to fill the 3000 low paying jobs i had. I wish i would've built the school of law instead of the school of engineering, i wouldn't have to deal with arsonists all over my region. -
Here's my city. It is solely focused on education and taxes for now. 105,000 Sims are living here, i have no mass transit system and virtually no traffic or at least, i used to. Lemme explain how the design works. On the main avenue, you've got the schools, students all over town (3000 Sims) drive there daily by school bus or by car. Then you've got the residential/commercial part of town. 50% of the residents drives through the main avenue and the other half use the overpass to get to work lowering traffic. Also, having the commercial mixed with residential make it so residents don't have to use their car to shop avoiding massive traffic. Unfortunately, this design is flawed. Why? Because now that i have lots of students, i end up with massive traffic jams on the main avenue caused by college/university students and 50% of the work force. How would you fix this? Where should i place those schools to stop the students from using the main avenue and avoid traffic?

I figured it out. For some reasons, my sims doesn't like avenues. I think the AI is too stupid to cross the street and can't get to work. It only seems to affect sims living in apartments.

Well, i did what you guys suggested. I built all the services, i made a "job trap" surrounding my residential, i built a subway and made an industrial area within my city. I don't have any traffic, plenty of jobs but, I'm still getting fucked by the commute time bullshit even with a subway system. By the way, i installed NAM as well.

Don't ask me. No matter how many schools i build my sims stay uneducated. For example, i started a new city, it has a large elementary school covering all the residential areas, 3 libraries (one in each residential district), a large high school covering the whole map and a college. Yet, my EQ stays at 40 in fact, it went from 60 to 40 5 years after i built the schools. Instead of building a police station, fire station and clinic, i focused on education. Logically, if your sims are educated, they won't commit crimes, burn down their houses and get themselves sick. Also, making money when your neighborhood town has all the industrial jobs is pretty hard because all your money comes from your commercial zones so, i had to cut corners somewhere right? What i usually do is, build and fill an area with houses until i reach 1000 sims then, i rezone and use apartments instead. When i reach a population of 10000, i slowly start rezoning and building residential skyscrapers.

Whenever i try making a new city, i either : 1. End up with a bunch of uneducated sims constantly whining about the lack of low commercial zones even tho the entire map is filled with them. 2. A "no job" icon appears out of nowhere and slowly kills my city. Right now, I'm dealing with the no job issue and i don't know what's going on. There are plenty of jobs and the commute time is only 17 minutes yet, they keep complaining about long commute. What am i doing wrong?
