  1. Mass Transit Single Player

Yup mass transit is included in SP: bus lines and subway lines.
  2. New York City

WOW! Awesome work dude! Really nice job
  3. The end of planet offer

The game tried to capture the city building players as well as the MMO players...but really failed on both fronts. Let's get back to the basics and hopefully they can recover this horrid game.
  4. The Mass Transit Discussion Thread

I haven't read the whole thread, but this is dispickable! I WAS really looking forward to this game. I WAS going to order it ahead of time. I WAS going to donate money towards it. Not anymore it seems like. I'll just have to get it like I get all of my other games. Sorry MC, you really dropped the ball on this one.
  5. Why do you still play SC4?

Why do you still play SC4? quote> I don't still play, but I love the community here
  6. Hand downs, absolutely no contest... VANCOUVER.
  7. Favorite Public Transportation System

Berlin. Easy, fast, on time, comprehensive...I can't find anything wrong with it. I loved it!

  9. Dependency on Subways?

Subways should be a SYSTEM and need to be treated as such, coexistent with automobiles. I have my bias, but I think we need to build way, WAY more subway (well, rail in general, doens't have to be underground) lines in our cities.
  10. Are you going to buy Cities XL?

2 years ago, yes I was willing and anxious to buy it. Seeing the final product, no...I will not buy it.
  11. Biggest Failure of CXL?

I haven't played the game yet...but it seems obvious: MC wanted to design a superior city simulator, and the majority of the ideas and input came not from the developers, but from the community and consumers who would ultimately buy the game. The fact that so many people are already unhappy with it suggests a major communication problem (or MC just not caring what the community wanted). This is the problem. MC wanted feedback, yet as the game developed feedback was not always taken into account. I've seen the MC forums, and the ideas there are staggering, brilliant. Yet here are, frustrated.
  12. Mass Transit - The REAL Deal Breaker?

I'm a transit junkie. This is very frustrating that a) they haven't shown any ounce of transit in any of the previews, and b) transit that will be in the game is only available to those who subscribe. This is outrageous. Yes, I would absolutely reconsider buying the game if they included transit. Honestly though, I'm banking on custom content makers to spice up the stand alone version... [quoite]I'm not forking out my moola. Lack of mass transit WAS the deal breaker for me. Paying over seventy USD a year for something where only 20 people show up on a Friday night is just stupid. Add all the goodies (except the MMO.) and I will get it. Plain and Simple.
  13. Clans

I'm sure there WILL be. It seems like multiplayer will be a large aspect of the game.
  14. Public Transportation

I have been saying this will make or break the game for me. So far I haven't been impressed enough with the other stuff that this game will be absolutely awesome...it must have great transit options. I guess I can only wait and see.

  16. Chicago! City Beautiful edition.

    Heh, very cool! Nicely done
  17. Show us your city, road or transit maps!

My incomplete rail map for my region Mute City For those wondering, I used Inkscape to make this map. A lot of people here have been saying Paint, Photoshop, etc to make maps. This may be hard for some people. Inkscape (and Adobe Illustrator) are vector editing programs, great for making lines, points, and polygons...ideal for maps. I suggest you give it a try.
  18. Kitami

Looks great. I love the density and the traffic
  19. Are There regions in 'City Life'?

I like the region concept, but SC4 did it all wrong. The point mentioned above is that you HAVE to load each city tile to make it blend. Let's say I wanted to make the transition from one city to another seamlessly, I would have to constantly be switching from city to the other city, making sure things like buildings lined up the way I wanted. I wish there was some sort of "preview" feature where it showed maybe 5 tiles into the bordering city so you can build accordingly. Too many times I have a city with med-high rises right on the border and in the next city I have low rises because I can't match them up easily. Ugh, they just really didn't follow through I feel
  20. Kitami

Definitely one of the coolest Asian CJs I have seen. Reminds me of when I was in the Philippines. :-] The transit map is a very cool touch. Very realistic with the mid-rises and low-rises.
  21. How to run SimCity 4 on Linux

^^ Seriously, how many times have we asked for a sticky on this thread? There are a good number of linux users who would greatly benefit from this. At least someone should come and say that it won't be a sticky.
  22. I uploaded them to mediafire and shared the links. I attempted to eliminate the plugin issues by "simply" including my plugin folder along with the cities so you can swap them out. Of course, people burned me at the stake for "releasing their content without their permission". Ehh, whatever...(some people are just anal). This is totally doable, not a chore...it's just the owners of the custom content that are holding me back, thus I will never upload a city again.
  23. Play SimCity 4 in Linux!

KDE is the way to go. :-] I didn't know Debian's KDE was that good.

Sorta. The rail can be located anywhere, but must have a freight depot. The catch it that it must be 'conveniently' located to that it's faster than driving to the edge of the map. The whole purpose of freight really is to get to the edge of the map as quickly as possible. 2. Doesn't have to be connected to a city with industry, no. Doesn't even have to be connected to a real city...it just has to go to the edge of the map and "connect" to the next one (it could be the edge of the region where there is no city next door, but you can still connect)
  25. Play SimCity 4 in Linux!

Good job keeping this alive. I kind of gave up on trying to get it to run on linux, but I'm sure there's some people out there who need the help. I'm gonna be trying Debian in the near future, already dual booting with Kubuntu
