  1. Brock in 3 sizes

    Version 1.0

    954 Downloads

    Yes ladies and gentlemen, a 3 pack. I know that some have found a given region to be too big, some to be too small, so I will be offering this, and some future regions, in multiple sizes! In the downloaded folder, you will find the same region in three different sizes - 5x5 large cities, 6x6 large cities, and 7x7 large cities. Certainly one will be just right! The map was based on USGS data of southeastern Georgia, USA. I hand-terraformed and altered the river system heavily. The result is a river delta region where five distinct rivers of varying size meet the sea. There should be many options for different types of development. The Sizes: Brock1281 is 1281 x 1281, 5 x 5 large city tiles, 20km x 20km (roughly). Brock1537 is 1537 x 1537, 6 x 6 large city tiles, 24km x 24km (roughly). Brock1793 is 1793 x 1793, 7 x 7 large city tiles, 28km x 28km (roughly). The Download: The download is a folder containing three subfolders - Brock1281, Brock1537, and Brock1793. Each of these folders corresponds to the sizes described above. In each folder, you will find a screenshot for that particular size, a .sc4m file, and a config bitmap (feel free to make a different config if you want). Look at the screenshots to determine which size you want, then follow the directions below for getting the map into the game! Dependencies: You must have either SC4Mapper or SC4TerraFormer. The screenshot shows the map rendered with cycledogg's Italia Terrain Mod with standard snowcapped file, and with PEG's Brigantine Water Mod - these, of course, are not necessary to play the map. Instructions: In SC4Mapper: 1. Open SC4Mapper 2. Click "Create Region" 3. Click "SC4M" 4. Locate and select the file you downloaded (Brock1281.sc4m, Brock1537.sc4m, or Brock1793.sc4m) 5. Click "Save Region" 6. Name it whatever you would like. 7. Quit SC4Mapper 8. Launch SimCity4 9. Load the region you just created in SC4Mapper. 10. Play. (Don't be alarmed by the colors; when each tile is opened, the colors will change to your normal ones.) In SC4TerraFormer: 1. Create a new folder in your "regions" subdirectory. This will be the name of the region. 2. Copy of move the contents of the zip folder to the new region folder. 3. Launch SC4TerraFormer. 4. Select the region folder you just created. 5. Click "Ok". 6. The full program will launch. Close the "Overview" window. 7. On the menu on the left, click "Global Tools." 8. Under "Global Tools," select "Import image." 9. Navigate to the region folder and select the .SC4M file. (Brock1281.sc4m, Brock1537.sc4m, or Brock1793.sc4m) 10. With "scale factor" set at "Default factor," select "Ok." 11. Save and exit SC4TerraFormer. 12. Load the region you just created. 13. Play. (Don't be alarmed by the colors; when each tile is opened, the colors will change to your normal ones.
  2. Island of Oahu

    Version 1.0

    1,141 Downloads

    Oahu, Hawaii: This is the first (and largest) of three maps I have created based on USGS data of the Island of Oahu. This download is the entire island, and this region is HUGE. It is 65km x 51km. I have removed most of the tiles that would be nothing but water. I have left the man-made runway strip for the Honolulu Airport, even though I know some of you do not want it, because it is easier for you to take out than to add. The download is a .SC4M file (which is why this is uploaded in props) and I have also included a config.bmp file, though a new one could be created to suit your tastes. Be creative and enjoy! Dependencies: You must have either SC4Mapper or SC4TerraFormer. The screenshot shows the region rendered with the Cycledogg's Columbus Terrain Mod and PEG's Hawaiian Holiday water mod, but these are not required. Instructions: In SC4Mapper: 1. Open SC4Mapper 2. Click "Create Region" 3. Click "SC4M" 4. Locate and select the file you downloaded (oahu.sc4m) 5. (oahu.sc4m) 10. With "scale factor" set at "Default factor," select "Ok." 11. Save and exit SC4TerraFormer. 12. Load the region you just created. 13. Play. (Don't be alarmed by the colors; when each tile is opened, the colors will change to your normal ones.)
  3. Lately, I have been getting a LOT of "Unsuitable grade for construction" pop-ups. I have recently built a new computer and, thus, an entirely new SC4 install, downloads, etc. I never used to have this problem, but I am having a hard time isolating it. This is a new region so I guess it could be the region elevation? Could it be my slope mod? I am using jrj's version of the BRF slope mod. I am posting two picture to illustrate the problem. It is especially bad with transit enabled lots! It is driving me crazy and is really slowing down my CJ. This happens even when I do a significant amount of prep work (laying single road tiles for grading.) Is there a better/different slope mod I should be using? Is there a fix? Can anyone offer any input at all? I would greatly appreciate it!
  4. Can't Find it? Ask Here!

    Hi All, I am looking for a modd that increases the radius of schools and hospitals. I used to have it, but recently did a clean reinstall and can't find it now.
  5. Cities XL Beta direct download link

    The links are only French and German, BUT, I clicked on link to download the peer-to-peer and everything is in English and the file is downloading - 75% now.
  6. Ehm, just play?

    For all of you having problems, if you go to beta.citiesxl.com and login (when the site is up), you can go to "support" and look through the "known issues," the "FAQs'" and then if you still haven't figured it out, you can create a "support ticket." Coming here to report problems you are having and ask for solutions sort of defeats the purpose. This is a beta and Monte Cristo needs and wants to know what problems people are having and they want to come up with solutions.
  7. Hello map downloaders, For those who don't know me, my niche is creating 16-bit maps for the STEX. These maps require either SC4Mapper or SC4Terraformer. I am starting this thread to probe the community's level of interest in very large maps. Specifically, I have been working on a scaled map of the entire Hawaiian island of Oahu. It is extremely large, in fact, 65 x 51 km. It is 16.25 x 12.75 large city tiles. That is the canvas size - the actual config is irregular (I removed the ocean-only tiles). It is a beautiful map and has very wide range of playability for many different styles, but I wonder how many people would, and could, run this map? I have an older computer and can run it, although very slowly - but I am sure that many computers out there couldn't handle it. So here are my questions/options: Does anybody want a map that big? Here are my options - I can offer the entire map. I can offer portions of the map (i.e. break it into quadrants). I could scale down the entire island to a more manageable size. Or lastly, I can do any combination if there is sufficient interest in more than one of those options. Thanks in advance for your input. mkaustin
  8. Updated: Cities XL may be something for me.

    I think the game looks excellent and I am looking forward to playing it. There has never been a game that everyone was crazy about, and there are people out in the world who didn't like SC4 (just not on this site). I think that most people who play the game will enjoy it. Also, the effort of the Monte Cristo developers is impressive and encouraging.
  9. NNM Grand Mountains by DTP

    Thanks. As far as rendering a .sc4m file, SC4Mapper and TerraFormer do not differ. I wonder if maybe the file corrupted in the upload. It could be my system, but I have never had any problem before and have uploaded and downloaded MANY sc4m files. I'll try again later. The photos look good.
  10. NNM Grand Mountains by DTP

    It isn't rendering correctly in SC4Mapper. Have you tested the download?
  11. Archania Island

    Excellent region. It has a lot of interesting features while still having plenty of quality land to build on. I'm impressed.
  12. Crescent Bay

    I like all the warehouses. They really add a lot of realism. I also think your transit map looks great so far.
  13. TSC Saint Nazaire

    I downloaded it yesterday and have had a little bit of time to play on it. It is a great map. This is one of the best maps I have seen on STEX for creating a sprawling metropolis. Great work!
  14. Crescent Bay

    Wonderful! I am so happy to see this journal back up and moving. It looks great, as usual. Very inspiring. I guess I better subscribe again!
  15. TSC Lake Leman

    Very nice, indeed. huge. but nice. It will require lots of ferries. Thanks for your work.
  16. The Empire of Amaltheia {Adrian Union}

    Wow, Z. I missed a few updates, but I think I just caught up. It all looks great. I really like the nightshots (way at the top of the page) and your suburban work is splendid.
  17. How do you make dry bridges?

    Hello all, I have seen in various places where people have created bridges that do not go over game water. I have seen them completely dry and I have seen them over ploppable water or stream kit water. I have been trying to figure out how to do this for a while and have also run several searches that turned up far too many results to go through. I would really like to build bridges over ploppable water and would greatly appreciate if someone can tell me how, or point me to a thread that can answer my question. Thanks!
  18. How do you make dry bridges?

    Brilliant! Thank you so much, G-man
  19. SmartMaps

    Cool! Glad to see you are going to continue to make maps. I really think that Tarbuck Cove looks really great. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to playing any of your maps yet, but I plan too as soon as I finish my current project. I will certainly keep an eye out for more.
  20. The Empire of Amaltheia {Adrian Union}

    good update. I live the contrast between the small city and the farming area. You always do a nice job of keeping it un-griddy. I like that.
  21. The Empire of Amaltheia {Adrian Union}

    Wow. Sorry, Z, I have missed a few updates. I love the port action shots. The ships being loaded and unloaded are fantastic!
  22. hey needgames. sorry I messed a couple of updates, and to be honest, have not read this one yet. I have been exceptionally busy with real life. Anyway, I just wanted to drop in and let you know I have not abandoned New Millington. I will try to catch up over this weekend hopefully. The pictures look great though! ps-what do you think of the new patch 3? I havent downloaded it yet, obviously, but I did hear it was released and makes significant changes.
  23. Downloaded Terrain twice as big???

    Is the bmp totally filled in? Every pixel needs to be a color - 255 red, 255 green, or 255 blue. A red pixel represents one small city tile. Green represents medium tile and can only appear in the bmp in 2x2 pixel squares. Blue represents large city tiles and can only appear in 4x4 pixel squares. As mentioned above, the bmp size and the grayscale size must match. If you are having trouble, I would strongly recomend downloading "landscape designer." This tool will allow you to do this: take the enlarged grayscale that you expanded, load it in landscape designer, and it will allow you to graphically create your config.bmp. It is very intuitive and difficult to mess up. Good luck
  24. The Empire of Amaltheia {Adrian Union}

    wow, z. very impressive industrial area and the freaight-yard is unbelievable!
