  1. It probably goes out of date with each update, but is there a handy resource for general principles and best practice for traffic? Is some of the early tips still valid, or were they nonsense all along? e.g. - Only zone one side of the road - Don't place buildings on the main road into the city or near the entrance - Build a highway loop around the city Cheers!

  3. 50k bond costs 67,280?

    When you take out a bond the first time the interest will be lower because you have no existing debt, but by the time you take your third you have over £100k in debt and pose a greater risk of not being able to pay back the new bond, so higher interest is charged. This is how bankers screw you in real life too
  4. Commuter limit?

    Thanks, at least its not something I was getting wrong. I had been trying to set up cities with around 90/5/5 mix of zones, so a mainly residential city would send its entire workforce to a neighbouring commercial or industrial town - time for a new approach!

    Update - Building a mine in the city with 10k unemployment actually increased the number commuting out to about 1500, but still unable to convince the other 9,000 to stop watching Jeremy Kyle...
  6. Is there a limit to the number of commuters that can leave a city? The reason I ask is because I have a one city with 10k unfilled low wealth jobs, next to a city with 10k unemployed, but only 800 maximum were going for the jobs. Traffic in both is reasonable, and they have good bus, train and boat connections. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks OJ
  7. Sims Can Not Find Shops or Parks

    This would make sense in my situation - I had parks and commercial adjacent to low/medium density residential with pretty awful traffic and I was getting mass abandonments each day. The bulk of my commercial is in a neighbouring gambling city so they are probably trying to get to the freeway or a train station and failing regularly. The problem disappeared when I raised the land-value to medium, which matched the small patch of medium wealth commercial that I had in the city. I also restructured the road layout to ease traffic. Now I just need to sort out all the disease and death...
  8. I like the idea, though as a specialism it couldn't compete in terms of revenue per square mile. Perhaps it could provide indirect benefits such as regional health or tourism.
  9. Advice needed for buses...

    Thanks. Having fewer bus stops isn't something I had thought of - time for some fiddly bulldozing! I'm mainly trying to get the mechanics of travel between regions nailed. Will the regional buses move people between stops within a city as well as between cities? From what I've read it sounds as though a sim could get on a regional bus in city A to work in city B, but instead end up touring city A's bus-stops all day rather than filling a vacancy in B. I don't mind too much about what happens to individual sims, as long as the bus system isn't having a negative effect on the number of workers who fill jobs in a connected city - so City A doesn't have 10,000 commuters on a sight-seeing tour while City B closes down because it's short of 10,000 workers.
  10. Hi there, Does anyone have any advice on the best way to use buses? I have 3 cities in my region, one industrial (3k population), one commercial (20k) and one mixed (20k). I have a bus depot in each one, and a terminal in the industrial and mixed cities. Each city also has a train and ferry connection. Is there any best-practice on how to place the bus buildings? Do I need both types in each city, or just one depot to serve all? I've also seen a few posts suggesting they're a waste of time all together, but perhaps they've been fixed now we're on 4.0?   12. Corrupted regions? Is that possible?

    I just logged on to post the exact same bug - 1) Get kicked out of city and returned to start screen 2) Click resume to return to city 3) City has reverted to several sim-days earlier 4) Leave city and return again to see if it has updated/synced (this worked once before with a different city) 5) Get the "Unable to load..." message, try again 6) Game sticks on the load screen. Other towns work fine as you say, gutted to lose this particular one. Did abandoning and reclaiming work it was the issue still there? Feels like a new bug so we might see a few regions with these soon
