  1. Yes, its not officially SimCity 5 but its just the easiest way to be specific rather than there be any ambiguity. Server issues will eventually be addressed so there's no point in beating the dead horse but I think we can all agree that attention must now be turned to the game itself. By virtue of being a "reboot" doesn't make it a nice game or not nice game. Only how well the game plays will determine its quality. Player expectation is also a non-factor in determining game quality. Highly playable, fun, quality games have longevity and are enjoyed by the majority regardless of anybody's prior expectations. I'm not going to tear down this iteration of SimCity just because its not in the tradition of SC4. My point is at present there seems to increasing reports of game mechanics and other sub-optimal design decisions that are now being recognized as the server stuff becomes a non-issue. Its these reports that worry me the most and make me think of E:WOM. The current SimCity has some charm but its hard to tell how much of that charm is due to the fact that its new and I'm still being courted by it and the thrill of unfamiliarity. My worry is that the warts we all overlook during the courting period will later be the only things we can see. I'm sorry for my first post then... Think I misunderstood you... Yes, it does feel a bit sad, that now when the server issues are finally clearing up (which can only be the explanation to why reviews are coming in about ingame bugs), we are seeing where the real problem lies... However I do feel and believe that Maxis can pull this off + the help of Will Wrights article will surely be a nice push in the right direction, market wise... Maxis have a long and lasting legacy of being able to pull of the impossible. So right now, I really dont doubt that they can do it again... Just a little comparison I made quickly: I currently have 680k sims in my main city, all settings at max, with no lag what so ever... SC4, the lag would begin at 500k at max settings... Yes I know, graphics does not equal gameplay... However, for me it is a clear sign of improvements... I enjoy the graphics quite a bit. However, in my opinion there several types of players (not to be comprehensive but a good chunk): A: players who are "ooooo and aahhhh'd" by the graphics and care about the mechanics only in so far as they allow them to pursue their aesthetic enjoyments. They'll probably leave the game the fastest. B: players who don't mind the graphics but wanted something else but as long as it doesn't look unappealing, it will work. For them the mechanics matter as long as they're not broken, probably not going to get in a twist if it has a lot to do but still shallow. They'll stay longer than group A and some may actually shift into group C'ers but about some non-insignificant portion will stop playing due to other games take its place. C: players who'll take whatever graphics are provided as long as the mechanics, the "simulation", is as deep as the earth's core. They'll either find a deeply rich game that they'll play as long as SC4 or a concensus will quickly be reached that glassbox wasn't ready for the big show and the simulation wasn't ready for primetime, in which case there will be a mass exodus back to SC4 or some other potential, newer replacement. In an ideal world a dev wants to make A,B, and C happy but reality is no paradise. Group B is likely the target for EA. Unfortunately for EA and perhaps Maxis I think the fanbase is more C than B. And they appear to be vocal. However, I think much of the main stream media reporting came from group B because they just wanted to play and figured if they complained enough they'd get something free (that's how it works in America, and it worked so it will continue to be the means of reaction). I think group C, while ticked about the server stuff will withhold judgment for the actual simulation itself and then praise or curse it after enough hands-on time. I expect the PC gaming websites to have covered the fiasco but I wish they would have left the rating of the game until later. I guess you could say they should have rated the "launch" poorly and then followed up later with a game evaluation, which they are likely to do but by then nobody but group C and a small portion of group B will still care, bummer. I actually enjoyed reading that. I consider myself to be among group B and C... I'm not a hardcore C, since I prefer SimCity 2k rather than the 4+RH (which in my mind is only good because of the mods, which is not maxis' doing)... But the part about the reviews, I've got to say that I 100% agree with... I feel that because of all this bad press, something that could be good, might just end up worse simply because of the reviews... I work as a CEO of an IT Security company... And if there is one thing that can completely destroy the morale and will of my employes, its bad critics... Not just critics, but bad as we see it here... Carm and polite critics is always well met by any company, but this kind of behaviour we are seeing on every gaming forum, is nothing like that. You could properly by now have filled a couple of dictionaries with bad words alone...
  2. Too big too quick?

Ehm, stop zoning more stuff perhaps ? And instead work on the budget/infrastructure...
  3. Could SimCity 2013 Ever be Fixed?

lol, the game is build on the principle of constant online play... So many people keep asking for an offline mode, and for some wierd reason everybody seems to think that they can just whip with an imaginary wand and make it in a day ... Be realistic people, you do after all want to play a realistic game... Such a feature would most likely take weeks to make. And so, you want them to completely ignore the current issue, no patches or anything, just for a freaking offline mode... Which btw, will leave you with a game that is still broken, just offline now...
  4. Haljackey Reviews SimCity (2013)

No need to be sorry, different opinions among the players is very commen... But exactly because the games are so much not like eachother, I feel that the only way to view it, must be as a new game, and not an addition to the story... And therefor, as a new game or perhaps a competitor, it does contain valid points which can become great success... I dont believe that it is a stop back, nor forward... The ups and downs are equal... If we look past the already dead horse of the servers stability...

  6. Haljackey Reviews SimCity (2013)

Off topic Warning: Avoid clicking on the above link from "StayPlease", spyware warning from McAfee, Norton, Avast and MSE. Regarding the review. Good review, like how you not only compared it to the other games, but also tried to look at it from a "out-of-the-box" POV... However, I do believe that what in the end made SC4 so good was the additions(RH, NAM etc) that came later. I personally feel that too many people are looking at SimCity 2013 as a followup, rather than a standalone game. Thereby biasing their views upon it. And yes, those servers at first was annoying, but even though you dont like the mention of it. This has become something very normal, it shouldn't be, but it is, among all online game, full or not... And I really dont like using Maxis as for the statement, simply because of their legacy. Personally I rank it 7/10, simply because it is a good game, and I dont mind the DRM at all... They need a proper weapon against hackers, and this solution is as good as steam's(renowned) DRM...
  7. I'd wish people would understand that there is no SimCity 5... This is something the community decided to call it, even though this has nothing to do with the original "storyline (for lack of better term)"... This is a reboot, so ofc, you wont see many features of the original games. The problem with the servers, really dosn't say much... It has become very common unfortunately for any online game (read D3, BF2, BF3, Anno, Civ5 and so on...) Yes, the free game is a joke, but a common strategy... My overall experience is, that this game is a really nice game. I was unable to get online for about 12 hours in total. Today, I haven't seen any problems, even though this is a weekend. Finally, they are getting the servers up and running, and stable aswell. Now we need to see some patches for different bugs. I give credit where credit is deserved. Good game, nothing new about the server problems, and since it is Maxis developing the game(not EA, they only marketize and distribute), I have high hopes for the next 2-3 weeks, which are gonna be the most important part of this release.
  8. Or as I did... Buy enough materials from the global market, store it in your city, sell everything in one go... With how the system works right now, no profit can be gained, since they have disabled the variable of the ever changing global market... Therefor currently it is an easy solution (if you have the money)... Later on, when the system is enabled again... Well, if you dont have more building space, you could always just send processors from another city, to your main city, and then sell it to the global market from there...
  9. Question on workers

Well if we were to look at it from a real life perspective, these are the numbers from my country 2011: Age Total 78,9 78,8 79,1 78,8 77,9 15-24 yo 64,5 63,8 66,1 65,1 61,7 25-34 yo 85,7 86,2 85,3 84,9 83,9 35-44 yo 91,0 90,4 89,9 89,3 89,3 45-54 yo 87,6 87,9 87,8 88,6 87,9 55-64 yo 63,9 64,1 64,6 64,1 64,7 Then one would have to believe that about 78% of a population should be part of the workforce. Compared to SimCity 2013, my numbers end up at about 65%. Which in a sense, seems right, as even kids are calculated in your population, however they dont participate in schools and such, and therefor dosn't show up anywhere else... This percentage can then be increased with education, healthcare and other infrastructure services. The best city in SimCity 2013 I've seen had a 75% workforce... Well, if you dont fill all job positions (or atleast I've found that the golden number in my cities is about 60%), then you may experience anything from abandoned shops/industry to residents leaving bc they have no money, etc...
  10. water.... not a drop to drink

If this actually works - it's a great find/idea. Works like a charm, been doing it with 3 cities so far... Infinte water supply... As long as Intake/outtake is the same...
  11. 350k with industrial, commercial and residence... And I still have area to expand on... Really not that hard people... just think conservatorial...
  12. I have in all honesty been thinking that the real problem lies in the lack of sync completely.... As in, it not just being out-of-sync... Meaning, bc of some of those region play parts they have disabled, they might also have disabled the part which handles the addition of resources sent to the Great Work... Thereby, making the game think that each city must send the same total amount, in my case, 2000metal per city.... I agree that this is an idiotic way of doing it, but for me it seems a bit logical, when you look at the problem.
  13. Been trying for the last couple of hours to make 1 city with only residential and commercial, and another with industrial. But it does not seem to share the RCI. Atleast not with just one player, as when ever I leave the secondary(industrial) city its name is discarded. So my question is: Does RCI not work in region or might it be that one mayor can only belong to one city per region ? Multiple queries on the web, only resulted in a lot of people complaining about simcity. Personally, I think it really is nice...
  14. Alright, I finally got the multiple cities working + some sort of RCI sharing... However, have anyone found a feasible way of making an industrial only city ? My industrial city is connected by road to the region, and even has a tradecenter(not sure what the correct name is for it in english, stupid origin not allowing me to play the game in english). However it simply will not get any workers, even though the residential cities have plenty of unemployment. And yes, they are of the right wealth lvl.
  15. Looking for buddies

Beam me up scotty! Origin -> Yilmas EDIT: NA East 1 is full... Does that mean that no new people can ever join it, or simply that we need to wait for ppl to logoff it ?
  16. Both of you just mentioned that you had multiple cities, so that atleast answers part of my question ... But how do you do it ? I start a new city, (in a private region), lay down the roads and blocks and such. Get the "City Hall" thereby allowing me to name the city. Stays on the city for X amount of time, usually 10mins to try and let the server update (I've seen some posts saying that it might cause the region synch to update). But then when I exit back to region view, that specific (newly created) city is still looking for a mayor ??? And its city name has been reset... I'm primarily guessing that this is where my main problem occurs.
