Alright, glad you guys moved this thread back to the top of the page. A WEBSITE Well, wolverine gets done completely with exams on Wednesday. Hell is about to get a lot worse. Anyway, before I return home where I will be working and doing other things, I will have a dead week here at college. I don't move out of my residence hall until the 29th, so when I'm not partying, I figured I could work on a Detroit/Michigan Building Architect website. Whether you are good or not, or have not used BAT, you can still be a memeber of the site. All you have to have is interest in Detroit or Michigan and provide helpful information (pictures or whatever) to benefit it. You will be able to upload pictures to the website and we will be able to display our future wants or completed projects there. We will still use this thread for discussion since my server does not except php scripts for a forum. What do you guys think. I can make it pretty cool. I also think the name Barry Sanders Project is cool too. I can get working on this right after my Wednesday final exam.

Ahh yes, I have exprienced the problems of filled CF cards. The worse happens when you have to delete TWO photos instead of one to get another picture of something. Anyway, I look forward to seeing them. If you need any help posting, I can get them put on my webspace. You can send them to my website address of send-to-couzens@umich.edu

I know, the Tigers are awesome, I hope to see them play the Indians at Comerica park on the 24th. Unfortunately, I have not had time to watch the Wings or the Tigers with final exams and all. Simtropolis has been the only form of recreation I have had. And sadly, all of my posts have been done during class. Thank God for wireless internet!

Very nice and professional. I hope they can get it to us. In case he asks about the format, many computer aided design programs, or 3 modeling studios can export in 3ds format. If he can't, he may be able to still send it to us, but it will then have to be forwarded to me and I can open it on a computer at the Architecture school here at U of M, but I doubt there should be a problem. Hope this works! I also can't wait to see more of the Comerica tower. Also, nice job on the bus stop, Farminsim! I like how you put the posters on it. Thanks for sending the email Bud. P.S. Anyone like the Barry Sanders Project logo above?

Jim Renne, AIA in the sports division for Rossetti Architects jrenne@rossetti.com In order for a model to be sent, it must be exported in 3ds format by them. Barry is a really nice guy. A few years ago my friend and I drove over to his house and knocked on his door. He was kind enough to let us in and sign my Lions helmet. Too bad his mural got painted over. But the Stanley Cup looks awesome on the side of a building.

Budweiser, the University Towers things was a joke. That is perhaps the LAST building I would like to see in the game because it is so DANG UGLY! I was just wondering what you would think. Malls, we don't need any more of those. I'm into builodings with style And Ford Field

All right, wolverine went on a little photo tour of Ann Arbor after class. I have some great bus stop pics, and I felt very funny taking them, I'll have em' up in a second. Besides having a lot of tall buildings, I thought it would be cool to have a lot of buildings in a row. They don't have to be anything spectacular. Maybe something like what Greektown has. Below are two pictures of what I mean. State St. in Ann Arbor The Corner of S. & E. U. Hey Budweiser, how to you rate the aesthetics of the University Towers building at the end of the street??? The only thing about building smaller structures is that I heard they don't loo as great in the game. I haven't tried it yet. Maybe when one of us learns how to use the BAT better we can try these as a starter project. They don't have to look exact, but they can go in any city. Detroit, Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, wherever.

Bud, why not the Detroit Project. Its sounds cool. Farminsim, we have those bus stops here in Ann Arbor. I'll take a few pictures of them around ann arbor and try and get you some photos by 10:00 to 10:30 p.m. And is there anyone brave enough to eamil the head designer of Ford Field for a model in 3ds format?

Here are some good pics of the Madden More Maddenage. or 150 Jefferson https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/AP-150-w-jeff.jpg border=0>

Those are red X's you got there. Oh well, Spartan Stadium - Red X, both contain the same void of character. J/K About Farminsim being the only batter. Well, much congrats to him! Hopefully I will learn to make a cube by next week and call it a suburban building. Really though, I hope I can learn the BAT and maybe if my above question will get answered by someone out there in the forums about getting Ford Field in GMax, we may have that in no time. Soooo, who has the guts to email the head stadium designer at Rosetti Architects and have him send us a model of Ford Field in 3ds format?
  12. mipro Barry Sanders Project

I like it, I also have a different redwings signature if you want it. If I can find it. I can't wait till Farminsim shows us his work on friday

I belive the concrete lot with beams sticking out of the ground is a Superbowl XL project. Actually, I think it's called the Kennedy Parking Structure. I always thought it was going to be a parking structure, but then I though, what the heck! They don't build parking ramps with steel support columns, but reinforced concrete! Plus, they are all close together. Honestly, I don't see why we need any more ramps for the stadiums. Detroit survived when the Lions and Tigers had their games on the same day once. It was really bad with parking, but people dealt with it. Campus Maritus http://www.reasite.com/images/CM-lawn.jpg width=799 border=0> The Kennedy Parking Structure. Will there be a building on top? http://www.downtownpartnership.org/images/photos/cbd/2002-08-27_kennedy_block.jpg width=1023 border=0>

Dare you talk about Ohio J/K! Actually, I think someone did request that building, but it's not a bad idea. Part of that building would have to be cantelevered over water, and I'm not sure how that is done in modeling that for the game.
  15. mipro Barry Sanders Project

The Monroe block is already on its way for renovations/reconstruction. Campus Maritus will be under construction for the next thousand years and the Grand Circuss area seems to be well on its way towards redevelopment except for the Stalter. I don't see why 7 million being used to demolish it can't be used to clean it up. If they tear it down, there is no hope I will ever get to see the inside because of the asbestos and molds are most harmful during warmer months. I saw some pictures of the inside of that place. It is the craziest building ever!! The MCS is pretty scary inside as well. Who knows if Catfish will be there? Some of you Detroiters may know who I'm talking about. Hey! Imagine trying to rehabillitate the original Book Tower if it was actually built! That is a lot of square footage.
  16. Rubik this is wonderful! I look forward to seeing the plaza.

The RenCen is ugly, but it is a necessary element. The problem with this building is that it is very modern and obtrusive to the surrounding buildings. Comerica Tower is fairly new and it looks very authentic along the skyline. In the 1990s there was a wild and drastic plan to build more highrises and a Two Detroit center (which looks like Comerica) and other builldings to fill up every conceivable empty space in the city. Obviously, that all has fallen through and really tall buildings have now become a thing of the past because of their inefficiency. That is why it's hard to get corporations to move downtown. Thank God Compuware cared. I contacted the Detroit Lions, and after being transferred a million times, I was told that there was a model of the stadium, but they did not have it anywhere on their servers. So I will email Rosetti Architects and see if they have it. Again, I would like to ask this question. CAN ANY 3D MODEL BE TRANSFERRED INTO GMAX?

DetroitINC, although using *** is an attempt to disguise bad language, realize it is not tolerated by a lot of the moderators here. I see you are new, and I have been here for almost a year and seen many threads closed. The last one I want to see closed is this one. I hate the way the city is managed and I have a huge grudge against the suburbs more than you all can imagine. I hope to dedicate my future career in architecture in renovating and rehabilitaing the city. All I ask is that you keep this all clean and not get all worked up on something that obviously isn't going to change for a long time. I'm glad this thread was created so that we can get Michigan Buildings in the spotlight. Please do not jeopordize this. Thanks
  19. mipro Barry Sanders Project

I notified the folks at Detroityes.com that we would like some pics of the base of the building.
  20. mipro Barry Sanders Project

Well then Budweiserdude, it's about time you also join the forums at http://www.detroityes.com A site that is about the rise and fall of Detroit and it's ongoing improvements and criticisms of the city government. I totally agree on the problems with the city government in Detroit. Guarantee the city will not be ready for the Superbowl and they may just have to install semi-opaque windows and false lighting in buildings that are not renovated in time when the limelight hits the city. Although the Casino situation is actually somewhat resolved, there will not be enough stuff ready. I however, do think city council can be hasty at some things. For example, they can tear down buildings pretty fast. Yeah, they are a horrible eyesore, but they do have a lot of character and the large amount of renovations and restorations going on in the city do show that you can successfully rehabiliate and occupy just about any building in the downtown area. That is my opinion as well. I don't want to turn this into a lecture, but it is important that people know that Detroit is working to fix its problems, has achieved much success from its new projects, but the goal for a new Detroit still has a ways to go and it's not going to happen by 2006 when the Superbowl rolls into town Farmersim, the building looks great! Nice job on those corners, I hope we can find some closeups of the base.

I thought about the Joe Louis Fist, but can anyone model a fist? I know someone did a middle finger awhile ago. Cobo and Joe Louis are kind of ugly, no offense. Michigan Central Station (MCS) is a good idea. However, it is being converted into the new police headquarters, so maybe it can be modded to serve that purpose. Top of Troy building should be easy since it is really modern. In fact, all buildings along Big Beaver Road should not be that hard to build.
  22. mipro Barry Sanders Project

Another quick thing: Is it possible to get ANY 3D model into Gmax? I mean, I don't know what program Rosetti Architects used to design the stadium and how would we exactly get them into Gmax?
  23. mipro Barry Sanders Project

GOOD LORD!! I leave Simtrop. for a few hours and we already got a Detroit Building!!! Farminsim, You Rock!!! Detroit Rocks!! I can't wait to see more of the Comerica Tower! I tried to look for more close-up pic of the corners, but I think they are round, unlesss you know for sure. I hope I can also find some base pics since I see you have left the bottom unfinished. But the walls and windows look great, and wonderful job on the roof. FORD FIELD I did an architectural study on the facility. I have over 700 picture of that stadium inside and out. BUT MOST ARE OF THE INSDIE.. IF YOU WANT, I CAN SHOW ANY PICTURE Awhile ago, the Lions had a 3d model of their stadium. I wonder if this will help. I have already asked them about getting the rights to build an online tour of the stadium. I will contact the Detroit Lions tomorrow to see if they still have possession of that computer 3d model.
  24. mipro Barry Sanders Project

I can't seem to find a picture with the base. I found one, but it was really small. I won't be in Downtown Detroit until the 24th. Maybe then I can get some better pics.
  25. mipro Barry Sanders Project

Farminsim, I can also give you a few more pics of the tower. I think its wonderful you are working on this. The only thing we need to be careful on with the Comerica Tower is its scale. It can be very deceiving from far away because it looks skinnier from a distance, whereas it is a bit fatter up close. Nice to see a person from Sagnasty, I mean Saginaw. I think the addition of automotive foundaries would not be all that bad. I have some pictures of the Saginaw Metalcasting operations (formerlly Gray Iron Plant). These plants do not have to necessarily be ugly, as today they produce hardly any pollution and most have undergone renovations. Comerica from the river I'm trying to find a better shot of the roof. Sorry for the pictures being big. But the more detail, the better. Hope these help a bit.
