  1. Valley of the Sun

Replies: Adjiebrotot - Thanks for the tip, it's been done. Revolution! Conservative forces took control and the Seven Laws of 1835 were approved. It displaced the federal Constitution of 1824 with the 1835 Constitution of Mexico, thereby ending the federal system and establishing a provisional centralized government in its place. The new laws were unpopular throughout Mexico, leading to secession movements and viloence in several Mexican States. James met with Sam Houston of Texas and they mutualy decided to declare their independence from Mexico, pledging support to each other until the final resolution. October 2, 1835, delagates from both states delivered their message to the Mexican government, sparking the war for independence. After initial defeats, the United States provided material support and military advisement to the newly formed Republic of New Mexico. Soon after the tide was turned and when it became evident that the Mexican Army was outmatched by the combined force of Texas and New Mexcico, the state of Alta California, urged by a significant population of colonists from the original La Casa del Sol settlement, joined New Mexico. The Army of New Mexico drove the Mexican army south from a point just 30 miles south of La Casa del Sol to latitude 31°  20′ North and set up a defensive line from the Rio Grande river to the Gulf of California while the Army of California drove scant Mexican forces south in to the baja peninsula. On April 21, 1836, with the defeat of the mexican army and subsequent capture of Mexican General Santa Anna by the Texas Army, hostilities were formerly ceased and the Newly formed republics of Texas and New Mexico were recognized by Mexico and the United States. The fledgling republics had mounted large depts to the U.S. that their, as of yet, undeveloped economies could not hope to pay. Texas' solution was annexation by the United States, while New Mexico sold territory that would become the States of Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California in exchange for debt forgiveness and the sum of 40 million dollars ($1,000,000,000 today). This infusuion of cash laid the foundation for the modern state officially named the Republic of New Mexico and ushered in a new era for the Valley of the Sun.

After the site was chosen, the town was laid out along two broad avenues in a grid pattern with industrial areas to the north and east of the main settlement. Immediately the town began to grow and thrive. Educational institutions were set up from grade school through college which began to draw the rural population from all over Alta California and New Mexico. After five years it was clear that the settlement was a success. After 10 years the town had grown to be one of the largest, most influential, and highest educated population centers in upper Mexico. All is not well, however. Events unfolding within the Mexican state threaten the future of La Casa del Sol as well as all of northern Mexico. These are interesting times indeed.

Alright, here is my first attempt at a CJ. I don't know how this will turn out, but we'll give it a go. We'll be following the founding and growth of a region in the Sonoran Desert referred to as the Valley of the Sun (I'm using the wonderful Phoenix map from the STEX. Very original name, eh? ). I am using CAM and NAM, but otherwise I don't have a lot of custom content...yet. Let's begin, shall we? In the early 1800's a religious group struck out west from Missouri fleeing persecution. Most of the settlers followed a man named Brigham Young and settled near the Great Salt Lake. The remainder followed a man by the name of Connor James into the Mexican state of Nuevo Mexico and Alta California. The group quickly befriended the natives and sparse Spanish settlers and ventured deep into the Sonoran desert. One night while setting up camp, James had a vision. He immediately told his party that this was the place that would become home. One of the Spanish guides dubbed the area La Casa del Sol, the house of the sun.
