Well, I don't know about this new-fangled machine... IPM you called it? ...but I do know that everyone should support Jacky, not those jealous mods... Congrats on the 1000 comments and 15000 page views. It's great to see such good work awarded with such devotion.

Begin $0.02 Originally posted by: PhilsCafe Btw, I personally think that the paragraphs about personal information are sensible... for teens particularly but even for grown-ups it's worth to consider. I've recently visited a website set up by our local police forces (Fit4Chat, it's in German)... it's a campaigne to sensitize parents, teachers and kids about safety in chats, etc. and some information actually took me by surprise. But of course you're right... why make a rule about it... I think prevention through information would be WAAAY better...quote> It's an oddly American (conservative American, but that's a whole other topic with a long diatribe by yours truly) way of doing things... making rules about what you can't do rather than educating the populace and then letting them decide for themselves. End $0.02 However, I am looking forward to the end of the update...

Well, T Wrecks, you know me, I always read the readme (usually before I install). It's there for a reason, ya know? That might one reason my game doesn't crash and I don't get brown boxes....
-
Well, I'm glad that's all sorted out. I fear that we have a few over-zealous mods on this site, but, no matter, hopefully we can all still enjoy the sights (and the ridiculous run-on sentences). Maybe the admins and mods should have you interpret all the rules for them...

Ummm... that's a joke on SG's part. I think there are instructions in the readme that came with the lot on getting the other query back...

I thought that posting personal info was a matter of choice... oh well... I continue to be intrigued by your mapping... especially since you're using an area that I am fairly familiar with as an example (I have driven I-74 in Illinois approximately four times in the past two years going back and forth to my sister's college, Grinnell - she has since graduated).

Some of the props are required for some things on the STEX (especially some older content). I downloaded some of the stuff, but passed on most of the mods.

Glad to hear this will be continuing. This has become one of my favorite CJs... by one of my favorite people on this site (mainly because you actually have a sense of humor and you are unconditionally supportive of people's RL stuff). Cheers, and I look forward to more mapping.... now if I could only figure out why SC decided to crash on a "Save and Exit" last night after four hours of unsaved work.... you'd think I would've learned by now.... Daniel

David, Personally, I am getting a great deal of enjoyment out of this. Please, please, please keep this on ST... otherwise, please send me the link to wherever you put it. I plan to use all of this when(ever) I start my CJ.

David, as a child (and as a young adult), I have shared a similar fascination with maps... Interstates and US highways in particular. I was fortunate to grow up not to far from the grandaddies of them all: US 30 (Lincoln Highway), US 40 (National Road), US 1, US 50 and I-70. I would spend hours on the floor looking at my parents beat up 1989 Rand-McNally atlas looking at where roads go. I still stop at every state's rest areas to get a state map. I did take it one step further. I drew maps - of totally fictional places... Of course, as my knowledge of the Interstate and US highway systems grew, so did the accuracy of my maps (as in actually having routes that were geographically compatable). Thought I'd share, Daniel

Game Crash when Fireworks Go off
tchaos713 replied to DaSteelerz's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
We need computer specs. Also, in the future, please use the edit button. -
@Buggi: The TE-lot bug can happen with any puzzle piece and any associated transit-enabled lot. One particularly memorable one for me was when I plopped the CSX David's Servo and then tried to lay down the highway offramps using an Elevated-offramp to One-way Road. I wandered too close to the lot and, voila, 2 hours of work down the drain. As far as I know, the NAM folks have tried to address the issue, but have found that the problem lays in the source code of the game. N_O_Body could give you more info (as he is far more knowledgable about coding issues than I am), but my understanding is that the game attempts to rotate the puzzle piece to fit the transit-enabling present on the lot and somehow triggers a stack overflow, causing Windows to shut the game down to prevent the computer from crashing.

My game crashes when I get into cities.

What is the size of your page file? Right-click "My Computer" Select "Properties" Select the "Advanced" tab Click the "Settings" button under "Performance" Select the "Advanced" tab Click the "Change" button Report the inital and maximum size amounts. -
@Buggi: The crime problem with lot sizes is a coding bug wherein large lots (I think larger than 6x6) produce an inordinant amount of crime (just plop an airport and take a look at your crime map). Your crime simulator mod helps immensely, but I'd personally like an actual fix in the coding. This is not a fatal error kind of bug, but it is an error in coding (IMHO). The Transit-enabled lot vs. puzzle piece bug is easily reproducable. Build any transit-enabled lot. Select any puzzle piece (but preferably with the same network). Hover over transit-enabled lot. Watch your city CTD. As N_O_Body said, this is a stack overflow error. When running the game in 1600x1200, save your city. Upon exit to region, bands of color will be visible along the bottom edge of the thumb for that city. Hope this clarifies some of what I asked about. If not, please PM.

For God's sake, please fix the TE-lot vs. Puzzle piece bug!!!!! (Okay, I just had to get that off my chest ) Fix the crime issue with large lots - this is not realistic. (as Swamper said) Fix the water bug (and can we fix the automata plowing right through over-hanging props at the same time?) Making more ordinances available would be sweet - as would fixing the current broken ones (do I hear carpool ordinance?) Fix the rewards that are currently next to impossible to earn (Grand Railroad Station, Space Port) Actually fix the Opera House (I love the plugin, but actual code would make me feel a lot better) Fixing the ploppable R bug would be nice Can we fix the issue with Catalyst 6.0 and later? (this might be an issue that ATI needs to address) Also in the catagory of graphics issues: can we fix the problems with saving the region thumbnail at 1600x1200? One last (for the moment): the (seemingly random) issue with civic buildings all of the sudden not being able to keep their funding (I've never had this happen to me, but I've heard about it plenty. Thanks so much for your work, Buggi!

Dang, I should never go on vacation... I missed four pages of updates, some stupid school administrators (what's that I hear about people rising to the level of their incompetance?), and one important birthday! @Gaston: I long ago convinced my cat that she shouldn't bother me when I was typing...good luck...

Well, I suppose there's nothing to do until Apple releases a patch for it... Do you use Windows or OS X? You could also use another media player... unless all your iTunes music is encoded in .aac...

Sims will always take their cars first and MT options (which ferries are - even the car ones) second or not at all. Save your game and try demolishing some of the nearer bridges to see if that helps. Or, just resign yourself to the ferry terminals working sometimes and not others.

David, I don't mind about the replies either, my friend. We are all busy in our ways and trying to make 100 replies in a week would drive me mad. By the way, check out the Ballet Fan Club (linkie in sig) for a preview of this weekend's performance, Beauty and the Beast. Daniel
-
Is there something on the other side that the Sims would want to get to? Also, is it the most efficient route? Do you have a bridge also? Are you running the NAM?
-
Very nice. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but we have been rehearsing in earnest for Beauty and the Beast. The good news is that ticket sales are $10,000 ahead of this point last year! Hope you have a good weekend, David.

@amal81: but you still do (if you want a hybrid)... ...I remember when the Pittsburgh Steelers were coached by someone other than Bill Cowher...

The US's most pathetic highways
tchaos713 replied to Duke87's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Well, the expansion of I-81 to three (for one mile, four) lanes through Martinsburg, WV has helped immensely. It would also help if there were high-speed access to VA-37 in Winchester (Wincester Bypass) and the Woodrow Wilson Parkway in Staunton. Nonetheless, I-81 is the major route from eastern Canada to the gulf coast, Texas and Mexico... as it's currently engineered, the only section that is not grossly under capacity is in northern Pennsylvania!
