High School Tips, Tricks, and General Advice
Fred_Ginger replied to topcliff's topic in General Off-Topic
Topcliff, if you're will to take advise from someone who graduated from high school so long ago that the high school doesn't even exist anymore then: High school is a tough time, there are 'forces' pulling you in lots of different directions but 2 important things to remember. 1) High school is a foundation for the rest of your life & 2) be very careful that you don't do something that you will regret for the rest of your life. By that I mean most people have to work for a living and getting the best job you can get usually means going to college. So, there you are, all those parties and goofing off that you can do with all that goes with them (like drinking and drugs and sex) or studying and working hard and being shunned by the "cool" kids. Short term most people go for the parties, think long term please! If you work hard and get into a good college and get a good job that you like you'll be happier than the party kids who waste their lives. Please think about this long and hard. -

FF, I don't check one day and you sneek an update in! Really liked the update too! So much going on, no wonder it took a while to get it done! I really liked the plopable water and the falls, looked really good (what we got to see!) Keep up the good work and I'll keep checking! Vicki -

The amounts of energy that will be required to run this massive indoor building and keep it at a temperature acceptable for the skiing will be astronomical and with our current global warming situation unless a renewable energy purpose-built powerplant is available I believe building this will take humanity one more step into a deadly future. Oh and the rockies are how far away from Texas???quote> You said it, SkyTearer! What a waste!

Wow Mr. C, that is one huge skyscraper! What views you would have on the top floors - makes me dizzy just thinking about them! I'm wondering what that guy has to tell the Old Man and the boys.... 20, Yeah that's it, 20! LOL -

Poor Old Man, it's really difficult to have to say goodbye to people you love, I can't imagine not being there when they go though. It must be very difficult for him to loose people when he is in the other dimension from them. @Nardo: Hey, Nardo, my sister is going to be visiting Turkey this summer, she leaves in about two weeks and will be there for two or three (I don't remember for sure), say hello to her, you'll recognize her as she looks just like me only a little taller and 4 years younger! -

A new computer? That's wonderful! Until it arrives be very nice to the current one, you wouldn't want to hurt it's feelings and have it crash on you! Ummm, that mountain is so... so.... so.... weird! It looks like bunches of recycled newspapers! How the heck did you do that? Otherwise, the city is so lovely and colorful, and so very oriental. -

I'm with Liv, mmmmmmm fresh vine ripened tomatoes! I think I better wander next door to my sisters garden and see if anything is ripe yet. Oh, why would you ruin a good stew with tomatoes though? Like I said before, must be a Midwest thing (my late husband, who was from Dayton OH, always put kidney beans in his spaghetti?) Those farm field are beautiful! And the clock is so cute! Don't worry about me, if Abcvs is offended by my "lack of respect" then he doesn't appreciate the spirit of my comments, and just so you know, you pay me back by letting me read what you have written! You know I love to read and you are one of my favorite authors! -

Hi FF, I came back to ST to read your CJ as there seems to be a problem with it where I was reading it. Do you know what the problem is? Oh, well, it doesn't matter now as I'm all caught up here and don't think I can wait over there. As to the updates between where you were there and where you are here all I can say is WOW! I'm looking forward to more, more, more! Vicki -
Originally posted by: Marurk But NAM doesn't work on the normal (classic) Sim City 4, right? Rush Hour is required, isn't it? Pfff, I only have the classic Sim City 4, but maybe I should buy Rush Hour too. Any plugins that extend the normal Sim City 4?quote> Hi Marurk, welcome to ST! By all means get rush hour too as then you can use the NAM and most of the custom content here is made to be used with SC+RushHour! You'll have a great time with it all! Vicki

Great update Mr C, but you did it again! Remember in 'Stranded' you had a picture of a country road and the caption said something about it being so dark but you had taken a picture of the road at a light! Well, this time the picture was of the amusement park being 'packed' and there was hardly any Sims there! I just love it when you do that! By the way I love the castle! It's really cute! -

Yes, Brigadoon, that's it! Thanks, I hate when those Senior moments happen! Sneaky way to get your short story Time Bomb into the story (People, if you want to read it click on the link in Mr C's signature!) So, are they going to go with the Old Man's town or stay in the dimension they're in? -
Originally posted by: His Divine Hand I've had this problem before, the Hi-tech industry is very picky and sensative to desirabilty problems with where it has grown. Check the land value and the hi-tech desirability of the area, and if it's low, plant some parks and put some commercial in the area, these seem to help increase the land value and desirablity. Oh, and the residential area at the bottom of the pic, re-zone it so that high wealth sims can move in, it's kind of weird logic, but it will help a bit.quote> I'd follow His Divine Hand's advise, High Tech really wants to be in park like settings with a lot of amenities!

If the chair is upholstered you should not use Lysol. If you are going to use 'Fabreeze' I' do it soon since it needs to 'dry', it wouldn't hurt to open a few windows occasionally too. Also, do you have dirty clothes hagging around? how about used sneakers? Used dishes? If you can't isolate the dirty clothes, you could use the 'Fabreeze' on them until you can wash them and the commercial show them using the 'Fabreeze' on the sneakers too. Good luck, Vicki

I would think that the airlines would do more than say 'sorry' and if I was a passenger I'd head to my Doctor ASAP - ugh the germs, icky!

Ummm, Mr. C, how did he go from being a "dark figure on a horse" to a "knight"? Just curious, not a criticism. Holy City Batman! How the heck did a city spring up overnight, shades of - oh heck! Senior moment - what is the name of that city that only appears once every 100 years in the mist, let's see, it starts with a "B" and is Irish? Strange happenings in these parts! And does this mean the Old Man isn't going to guide our heroes any farther (he did say he was home)? On a sad note, you're not kidding about things out there that want to chew on you, did you read/hear about the poor boy who was pulled from his tent and eaten by a bear in Utah? The authorities killed the bear and don't know why it attacked the boy, it could have been something as innocent as the kind of toothpaste the child used or he may have spilled something on his pj's. I'm just speculating, but bears just smell food and then eat. -

Just caught your latest update. I hate camping! Sorry had to add that, I'm sure the young men in your CJ are happy to be out in the woods (not so sure about the old man). Vicki -
First, welcome to ST Iumogg! Next, there are a number of articles in the Omnibus that will help you, I suggest that you read them to get an Idea of how the game works! Good Luck and enjoy! Vicki

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 40th Anniversary

Ah, my misspent youth -
Congratulations to all of you! You have so much to look forward to I'm slightly envious of that! (I graduated from high school 41 years ago!) If you'll accept some advice from an old lady, This is it, you don't get "do overs" so think about what you're doing especially when you're "just hanging around having fun" as you don't want to do something stupid that could end up costing you all your dreams! Celebrate your accomplishments, learn from your mistakes! Most of all, be true to yourself! Don't let "peer pressure" cause you to do something you would never otherwise do! Enjoy every minute of your life!

Well, I prefer Coke (and really like cherry Coke) of course I'm slightly prejudice as I own some stock in Coke to help with my retirement, but I wouldn't have bought the stock if I didn't like the product!

This whole episode is a sad commentary on modern life. A 26 year old crying to her mommy that "it's not fair" for her to pay for the crimes she has committed. As a person who has been hit by drunk driver I'm so very glad that the judge stood up and said "No" to her serving "house arrest"! There are a lot of people in this world who think that the rules do not apply to them because they are "pretty" or "rich" or "celebrities" or "powerful"! She said something before going into jail about how as a role model she wanted everyone to see she was "doing the right thing" Oh! Pllllleeeeeeeaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeee! I hope that the parents of children everywhere are pointing out to those children that she was finally forced to do the right thing, she didn't choose to do so, and when she tried to wiggle out of paying the full price she was forced to complete the sentence! Don't want anymore "Paris", stop buying "Us", "People", etc. stop watching those "magazines" on TV, complain to the sponsors, let the networks know you don't like them, that will get them out of our faces because they will no longer be profitable!

Have a few questions that I would like answering!
Fred_Ginger replied to Captainmk's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: Cowboy[Texas] Well, I downloaded some properties from SimCity exchange. My question is how in world do I use them ? Where do "plopables" show up in your menu ? And where do the downloaded / customized "zoned" properties show up ? Do the zone properties just randomly appear along with the standard maxis properties or do you have any control over them. I also downloaded some customized power plants but I dont see them anywhere in my menus (landmarks, utilities, etc).quote> If you've d/l plopables and they're not showing in the appropriate menus (parks in parks, schools in schools, etc.) then you need to check whether you unzipped, ran the installer correctly. For items with installers you just let it run and agree when it asks if you want to create a new folder, if it is a zipped you need to unzip and place in (I hope I get this right - if not someone will come along and correct me!) My docs/SimCity/plugins/(folder name) I usually create a folder for each creator and then a folder for the specific item. It helps keep your plugins folder neat and also helps to find something if it gives you a problem. Don't install too many things at once and go to a 'sandbox' (test) region after install so you can check. Growables just grow when it's appropriate as N_O_Body said. -

Yes, there is a lot of excitement about the 'new' game! But, on to your update. What is with those people? Not very friendly are they, you'd think that any strangers might be welcome for whatever news that they might bring but not there! And the guy on the horse? Hmmm, I hope he's not trouble for our heros! Looking forward to more! Vicki -

Fred_Ginger replied to Captainmk's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hello Captainmk, welcome to ST! Yes trains do show up on the tracks, both freight and passenger trains. The thing is that the Sims wont use the trains if there is a road for them to use to get to where they want to go. If you put the track in the middle of, say a farm area some of the farms (that touch the track) may use the train. As to the offices, it depends on what stage your city is in for the offices to grow. Also having plazas and parks doesn't hurt. Check the omnibus for articles on how to get your city to grow - that will help you. Edit: Hi Cowboy[Texas}, welcome to you also! Plopables are usually commercial and commercial versions of landmarks (res will not work as a plop), and parks, services (hospitals, fire and police), and schools. Zones are areas you set aside for things to grow. Hope that helps! Vicki -
