  1. The story of La R

After the longest RLS absence ever seen on Simtropolis, I’m back on the story of La Réunion that I started in 2003. Yes, 2003. The reason of my return is that someone finally posted a map of my home island and that decided me to remake this whole thread about la Réunion island. The new map is now much bigger and much better, and I’ve downloaded enough LOTs to make the CJ I wanted. Intro : The Origins (13 700 000 000 BC – 300) >> > > 65 millions years ago, the dinosaurs disappear in a dinausoresque nuclear conflict. In a period of time of 5000 yrs, invisible by the scientists from the 21st century, the dinosaur civilization grew and disappeared. They went thru the age of stone, the age of iron, the age of empires, the age of nations, the age of corporations, the age of information, the age of nuclear weapons, and ended up with a Dinosaur World Order gone crazy who pushed the button. The nuclear bombs used in this conflict left gigantic basins and craters, which, after millions years of erosion, we now see like oceans and mountains This let the mammals develop. Life diversified freely after the Dinosaur Reich. Felines, birds, dogs, bovines, monkeys developed in millions of species.

UPDATE 17 Antoine said to his friends : - My friends, it’s one of the most extraordinary waves I’ve ever seen ! C’mon look at it, it’s perfect - …? - Hey you know what, we should make a surf camp here ! Look at that wave, look at that white sand beach, it’s THE place here - Well Antoine, what the.. - See dudes? The swell is so regular, this tube is a dream - Antoine… - Seriously, we guys could shape our boards with those giant trees and surf every morning till the end of times… our female Malagasy slaves would build comfortable huts with pillows made of those dodo feathers - Antoine…? - Hey we could even make wax for our boards with fat from those turtles ! - Antoine ! - And that’d be OUR wave, we’d keep it secret, not a word to governor Flacourt ! - Antoine ! - Yeah ? - Give me that bottle! - … No… - Antoine... You don’t want to dream to be eaten by those giant anguillas tonight again, do you? Remember it’s 1654, galleons, Louis XIV and stuff you know. So please give me that bottle! - Hmmmm well ok And they slept for the night.

  11. The story of La R

@ Archean : yes, the map was baiscally imported. By the way, I apologize for not giving credit to its creator, but I don't know who he is. The map showed with precision the mountains, the coast, the plains and such, but I had to redraw every single ravine and river. That was the hardest part of the terraforming. Just be patient for the sim cities, the first settlers haven't been all around the island yet !

  20. The story of La R

UPDATE 9 CHAPTER 2 : First Settlement (1638-1663) For centuries, no one really cared about la Réunion, until 1638. and guess who arrives??? (note to purists : the blue-white-red French flag didn’t exist in 1638. In fact it was a plaque dedicated to the Louis XIII. And I couldn’t find any lot with the French flag on the stex, so I had to photoshop sumthin.) The French cared about la Réunion for several reasons. First, it was virgin. Secondly, it was on the way to India. And thirdly, it was close to Madagascar where France already had a colony (Fort-Dauphin), and projected to expand there with La Réunion as an off-shore base. But the French didn’t settle immediately. But again, the french didn’t settle immediately. Le Réunion was still desert. The French were more focused on settling on Madagascar. Yeah, they wanted to stay. Even if there was no woman.

UPDATE 8 ffice:smarttags" name="PersonName">nomasliteraturblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/cantinoplanisphere1.png (link for the hi-def full map) Many people discovered la Réunion on the way to India. There is no unique discoverer, as often, and the islands of the archipelago had several names throughout history
  22. The story of La R

wow i've had trouble to fix it properly
  23. The story of La R

Update 7 Chapter 1 : Mankind discovers la Réunion (300-1638) But they talked a little bit about it. Only around 990 is La Réunion mentioned by some arab merchants. Precisely three islands, who now form the Mascareignes Archipelago : La Réunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues. They called them Dina Morgabim, Dina Arobi and Dina Moraze, (Dina meaning island in arabic) You can see the map full screen here. But arab sailors didn’t really care either. La Réunion was just a dot on a map. All that mattered was a new way to India… that avoided the dangerous land routes thru Europe and Middle East.

Update 6 I think I've shown you too much. We'll see la Réunion in detail later. Remember the developed monkeys haven't discovered it yet. Let's have just an overview for now. La Réunion has the shape of a potato, is about 70 kilometres widewith a perimeter of 220 kilometres. As you see in this satellite picture, rains and swell come from the north-east, like in all tropical islands of the southern hemisphere. Thus, the western side has a totally different climate and different sea currents. This allowed coral to grow and form a 20-km long coral reef in the west as you've seen in the last picture of update 5. You can also view it on full satellite photo here. Le Piton des Neiges, as I described before, is surrounded by 3 caldeiras, called “Cirques” in French, with the shape of a cloverleaf. They are formed with the collapse of the older volcano on itself. Her is a partial view of the Enclos Fouqué (click for full view). Le Piton de la Fournaise is different. It collapsed too but lies in one caldeira only, called “Enclos Fouqué”, with the shape of a horseshoe. It has not been eroded yet since it’s too young, unlike Les 3 Cirques who have a very chaotic landscape. Gorges are created by the heavy rains of the region, and are particularly deep and narrow when the rivers that form them come from one of the 3 caldeiras. The highest cliffs are the ones that surround the caldeiras. That's all for now. Enjoy !
