  1. Tight squeezes, nam, and you

you, too get upvotes for helpful suggestions! thank you both :3
  2. Tight squeezes, nam, and you

Disabled by Project Symphony (the mod that gives you the fancified 4-lane MHWs) for being incompatible with the new fancified 4-lane MHWs. Anyway, the most compact setups I've been able to come up with are the Half-Clover and, as already suggested, the Roundabout (which I took to the most insane level). Gah! Avenue roundabouts, I'm such a derp.. Thank you for going out of your way to build a couple things that might work a little better than road to subway tunnels XD Umm~ speaking of roundabouts, are r4 highway roundabouts, standalone ones coming soon? because that would be awesome. Oh! and great work on fixing the crashy issues with nam, you and the entire team, really! the only time I've gotten a ctd error in over a week was from accidental dragging of a puzzle piece over a transit tile, *while* the game was loading automa and stuff. (huge improvement, monumental, even.)
  3. As the topic suggests, I'm trying to work with the nam and fit a T connection in a very tight space, a maximum width of 12 (including neighbor connections) to the right, a bridge. to the south about half a mile of highway that would serve a purpose if I could connect it up. (see reconstruction below) https://www.dropbox.com/s/6xanfxlwl08wukt/welp.png (in case the one above is not displayed) Note: the edge of the concrete barriers represent the start of the bridge, which cannot be shortened. the road sections to the left represent the edge of the map. (I hate rivers for this very reason) My problem isn't that "this is impossible", it just looks god-awful. so! I'm looking for suggestions on how I might better do this, outside of using that ugly pre-fab t from vanilla sc4. But that brings up another question, where are all the ramps for vanilla sc4 now? I've got the latest nam but I don't see any of the ones for vanilla elevated or groundlevel highways in the menu. you know the ones I mean, the ones that exit the highway and then go up or down all in the same amount of space that rhw pieces use to just exit? You know, real space-saving pieces for a tight crunch like this? Don't get me wrong, I love the wider highways, it's just sometimes you end up in a not-so-pretty situation and there doesn't seem to be a way out of it :X
  4. Is there really no other way to get SC4 Terraformer or Mapper while sc4d is down? aside from terra's source that you can download from sf, that is. (man, if I only knew how to compile that I'd be set!) Just seeking confirmation about this, wasn't sure where to look to see if this was asked before.
  5. NAM 31 Central Bug Tracker Thread

I think I may have some information that could help you fine-tune whatever might be going on, possibly? maybe? hopefully? in relation to the crashes, that is. Now it's completely possible that there's just something up with my plugins and that I'd need to datpack more of them; or something that the new nam doesn't like about running the game in windowed mode, but the times I monitored the crash of sc4 I was in a mostly-developed large city. (Previously not an issue in the slightest) Also, I noticed the baseline ram usage would sort of increase (rather quickly) as I panned through the city. not really a huge deal, but at about 1,840,000k of ram usage the city would either lock up the game or crash to desktop. The baseline was fairly close to that to start with, something like 1,600,000 (once the city in question was loaded of course.) I'm not sure what's causing it and it might just be an internal limitation of the game itself, but something is most certainly chewing up charge there. Other than that specific issue, I'm loving the new Nam. so many new bridges and connections and.. is my ocd showing? I'm excited to actually use it and retrofit a couple cities! I realize there are many issues with the new version, but I hope that this in some way helps.
  6. Simcity gets Blessing of Series Creator Will Wright

The word "senile" comes to mind, but maybe he didn't play anything since Simcity? if so yeah, that would be amazing to him.
  7. Overhanging soccer field

Overhanging lod prop, what? could you be a bit more specific? I ask because the only result for that on google links back to this page.
  8. Overhanging soccer field

I can see what you're saying about the usage, the screenshot was just to illistrate how I have used them. There are however some problems with uneven terrain; I'm not sure if it results from terrain above or below the rest of the lot, but the overhanging surface can bleed through the base of the lot which can look a bit odd. But! if it's more screenshots you want, let me see what I can do!
  9. Overhanging soccer field

So you're saying I just made soccer an extreme sport? ..yeah, I'd watch that.

This is a very old project that I thought I should release so here it is! Ever want to place a soccer field in your city but there's a transit line in the way? isn't that annoying? Well be annoyed no more with the overhanging soccer field! place them under highways, elrail, monorail, NAM puzzle pieces! heck, even place them off the edge of your map, who cares! Because of the size of the lot I was able to keep most of the props, including the animated soccer players running about and under the rail line. is this realistic? Nope. but hey, sometimes you just have to build a support post between goal posts. (More actually cool lots coming soon!) Oh! I almost forgot, if you have any issues with this lot feel free to leave a message, I didn't check it at all zoom levels but it seemed functional to me!
  11. Can't Find it? Ask Here!

I find myself making more and more artificial islands lately, but achieving those straight lines is a real pain in the neck! Is there a lot I can use that will reliably build up land from plopping it on water much like using streets or roads to level large areas of land? I know some of the nam lots sometimes do this, but it's very hit and miss. (Leaving the above post) I figured it out right before heading to bed, by the way! I forgot that you could bring up god mode in city mode and that you could in fact raise the terrain to manualy level it the sink it once complete.. saves a lot of blowing up road splotches, too! thanks anyway guys (Insomnia is not helpful for troubleshooting.
  12. NAM: Requests

Right! well my request seems simple enough well, plural but I'm sure it's not as easy as all that. Ever since I started playing SC4, I've wondered why a road can't go here there, or under that. So, in the spirit of density, I was wondering if any of the following are possible. 1) LODs for traffic over the bottom tile and under the top tile of the long slope transition between ground and elevated highway. 2) LODs for traffic under the highest point of plopable overpasses. the "quarter" bits. 3) Shorter entrances and exits for diagonal highway overpasses. Honestly the first two are more personal preference than anything as I build myself into corners sometimes, but number three I'd really like to see as an option in the next NAM. I'm not sure if any of this has been requested before as, well this post is 54 pages deep. Anyway! Thank you and the whole NAM team!
  13. High Speed Rail Project

Hopfuly someone in charge of the designing will find this post! (as this is one very long thread and I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post this.) First of all I'd like to say that yes, this is a much better version of the monorail system, with a few exceptions. 1 Because the rail uses it's own speed and traffic mod, it messes with my own setting of "increases traffic capacities significantly". I use that setting because I reeeeeally don't want to deal with how stupid sims are as far as traffic goes. I mean, they couldn't find their own pixles with a map and a compass. I suspect this will be fixed eventualy once it's part of the nam.. hopfuly. 2 This system needs low-speed corners. Some people who use the monorail system as opposed to the elrail will weave it in and out of cities, blocks and everything else (just like elrail). a lot of us would rather not have to demolish half a city just to replace an elevated transport system. And let's face it! if it's fast people will often place a station every block or every other block, especialy if it includes a bus and a subway station. Overall I think this is one of the best mods for sim city.. but please, think of the inner-city use of these tracks, allow for low speed sections.
  14. Sunken transportation project

warrior - Could you be more specific? what about the ramps needs tweaking? Somebody - Well I'm not entirely sure how to do that, but I'll think about looking into it.
  15. Sunken transportation project

Another week, another update! As you will see, I'm pretty much done with the avenue intersection, all that's really left is the night lighting and routes for traffics! I smoothed the on/offramps, added signs, decaled the overpass signs and all sorts of other stuff (as you will see) I realize there is more I could do to make this 100% detailed, however as you know, there is no need to go insane with the details. I'm extremely happy with my progress thusfar, but alas, I must do other things until the weekend! Enjoy the progress piccies and know that there are many more on the way!
