  1. But if roads had infinite capacity, would there be much reason to build avenues or highways? Though I suppose they can go faster on highways.
  2. Another problem I'm having now is when I change the settings in the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool and try to save them it says "Error deleting file(s). Simcity 4 is probably running." (it's not)
  3. It's running fine now (I did have to uninstall and reinstall a few times). But I'm only using the traffic simulator, I've decided not to bother with the rest of the NAM for now, most of the custom transport features don't seem that essential anyway (and fiddly too). To be honest, the traffic sim does feel a bit like cheating (with its huge station capacities) but without it the game gets to a point where the commute time becomes extremely difficult to lower. Currently my city population is at 500,000 and it's on a large tile (I also have 2 other cities next to it for dirty industry and power)
  4. A lot of that went over my head (what does "mobo" mean?*). I'm not going to buy new bits just for this game. But my computer does have a habit of saying "High memory/CPU usage by such-as-such" when I'm going through photos and stuff. The game's been playing fine so far anyway, I've already switched off clouds, waves and shadows. * Mobo = motherboard?
  5. Basically it's an HP p6205uk, I've had it since 2010 and I use Windows 7. I don't know graphics card it's got etc. Sorry.
  6. I've now installed the whole package. Only thing is the roads and railroads now look more pixelly. I had a go placing a High Speed Rail line but it just crashes when I try and connect a station at the other end. A lot of the new features/pieces don't seem to match that well with the original the SC4 graphics. For example the canals are just blue squares. And it's added zebra crossings and road markings that I don't think look "authentic". To be honest I feel like uninstalling it and just reinstalling the traffic simulator. Though would I have to readd stations (to get the higher capacity) and speed through another year of game time for the traffic simulator to sort out all the traffic again?
  7. I've just upgraded to Simcity 4 Deluxe, after building up a city using the basic Simcity 4 game. I'm finding that after I set the funding level on seperate education buildings (musuems, the university, schools) it keeps moving back to well above the amount of sims attending them. Sometimes it seems like when the funding's increased, suddenly more sims go to the university or college.
  8. As a test I deleted all my education buildings (including museums, libraries, the main library, the art musuem and opera house) and without saving then built them again, and the phantom sliding problem seemed to stop but it wouldn't let me rebuild the university (even though my education level was still over 120, requirement says 95 and my mayor rating is very high), I lost the ability to rebuild one of my private schools (I had 3 and only 2 lit up again in the menu, the third disappeared) and the major art museum wouldn't lit up again even after I built 4 museums. And even though I didn't build any new libraries, the main library still lit up. I haven't saved it so far.
  9. Do I just copy the save game file somewhere else and it use it to overwrite the original file if it doesn't go right? Also my RCI demand bars keep going over the place, my commercial office and dirty and manufacting industry demands go high negative then shoot back to high postive. Another question about a different subject. Before I upgraded to the Deluxe game, I built up a big subway network and now on the traffic congestion grid the subways are mainly red, while it seems the roads are hardly used in a lot of the city. Is this a bad thing, to have such a heavily used subway network? Do I want more of a balance, with the roads being used more?
  10. I've now loaded that update from the official EA site. However the phantom slider problem persists. About the Opera House fix, the Opera House doesn't seem to have a capacity anyway, it just says "Monthly Funding $300, windows broken 19" (or something similar). PS. I haven't played the game in a few days. Sorry if I seem to take a while to post replies to this thread.
  11. I bought the genuine CD version, and haven't downloaded any mods at all yet.
  12. I do have an Opera house, but do I really want to download some mod after people say mods are the reasons for problems like this? Couldn't I just bulldoze the opera house and rebuild it? "There are a few others" A few other what? I've noticed from reading Simcity forums that people give a variety of answers to questions. How do I know what the right answers are?
  13. I haven't downloaded any mods, it's just that I started the city in the basic version of Simcity 4, then moved on to the Deluxe version. I replaced all my standard elementary and high schools with the large versions which come with the Deluxe game, although I have still the same university, city college, libraries and museums.
