  1. Police, and Fire Choppers...

    fire helicopters have worked for me, but not always. i would place an airport, build 4 helicopters at once and no fire trucks, because the fire trucks will always get dispatched first. I would then bulldoze the airport and turn off 3 of the helicopters since 1 is enough for medium density. but as time rolls on, there will come a time when my city is burning (normally when I go high density). At this point I normally have 2/3 turned on. I would then zoom to the fire station and see the helicopters sitting there. none of them are flying out. just chilling. this has happened to me in several cities and in several servers. Now I just use the fire trucks, because the helicopters don't work.
  2. University Woe

    it works. actually u can slightly cheat too. if you choose to upgrade your extra university, sometimes it confuses the game and the university gets upgraded twice. so for example if you have 2 lvl 4 university where one is your main one and the other is the extra one. When it reaches the number of students for upgrade, if you upgrade both your universities, you automatically reach lvl 6. just bulldoze both and build a new lvl 6 university. of course if you have money to do so!
  3. University Woe

    The trick to upgrading university really fast. plopping down 3 dorms in one university will allow you to reach lvl 3 pretty quickly even with 30000 population. what I normally do now, is to plop another university in the same city and add 3 more dorms to this one. Now you should get to lvl 5 within one Game day or 2. The last one requires a third university with 3 more dorms to lvl 6. BEWARE: Upgrade the main university you want to keep. The other universities you plop down will also let you upgrade, but they normally don't work after once or twice. It doesnt really matter because you want to bulldoze them after your final upgrade of your main one. the additional universities do add to your student count in your main university. each dorm gives you 500 students for free. i can get a fully upgraded university in no time, but you do need $$$$ to build those universities and dorms.
  4. What? Does this mean we will get to build transportation in link skyscrappers together with sky roads? This Expansion Pack seems like it adds the future stuff from Simcity 2000. If this gives me the futuristic building sets and advancements like Simcity 2000 (Sega Saturn) did, I might cave and buy it. I miss the futuristic building sets from that game. That means I'll have spent ~$90 (I got the digital deluxe upgrade for $4), If I buy the expansion pack. in comparision with the other games: I spent $100 on Simcity 3000 thanks to Simcity 3000U 8 months later. I spent $100 on Simcity 4 thanks to me buying 3 copies of the game (I cracked the disc for the first copy, bought a second copy, then the Steam copy to play disc free) I spent $80 on Simcity 2000 (I wanted the PC version) I spent ~$80 on Simcity 1 thanks to the PC and Wii versions (I will spend money to upgrade to the Wii U version if it ever sees the light of day) I guess there are much worse things to spend money on than on Simcity stuff. I am actually enjoying the game, but i find this expansion very ironic. it is a futuristic expansion for cities of tomorrow. The irony is they can't even get the present right, for example subways/recycling.... and now they want to do futuristic cities....

    it runs well on my new retina mac book pro 15" with the NVIDIA. Problem is: I cannot adjust the graphics settings when I go to menu. Everything is locked and I can't change low to high.
  7. today on simcity blog they announced how the new RCI works. also this has been discussed on the update 6.0 thread. my question is...is it going to be too challenging. since there are 3 types of commercial, low medium and high wealth, what kind of industry do we need, and how much of it? does low tech industry provide freight for low wealth commercial and does it scale up like this? or does high wealth commercial need low tech industrial freight? or is freight going to be non-discriminating and it does not matter what tech level industry you have? these are the questions that are burning in my mind. i know some people are getting mad that they cannot build commercial only cities. what I am really mad about is this paragraph on the blog: "First and foremost, we’re adding a profit dependence on freight deliveries to Commercial buildings. Commercial buildings have always received freight shipments, but now that need is greater. With Update 6, Industrial deliveries are crucial to keeping your Commercial buildings happy. Having no Industrial zones will decrease the happiness of Commercial buildings. If they wait too long for deliveries, they may go abandoned." TRAFFIC is already a problem, and before solving it, now we are adding another source of problems! most likely freight is going act the same way as other tard agents...and now i have to worry about more traffic!

    I actually hope this is one update that they charge $$ for. like a DLC. then i definitely would not buy it.
  9. I tried bulldozing the entrance and happily destroying thousands of cars...then rebuilding it. Still no. these cars appear from no where.

Hey all, I am having the exact same problem. 240 k population, in a region with some other people. what is annoying is, from my population data chart, I have 0 unemployment/unsatisfied workers. i have around 3k unfilled jobs -low wealth, 2.5k unfilled job medium and around 900 unfilled job high wealth. only 100 commuting in and zero commuting out. what is confusing is my city exit is completely jammed with people trying to leave. a lot of them are poeple from neighboring cities. I then built my city entrance avenue so long that i can see my own city is functioning perfectly fine with areas of green./yellow traffic only. but it is annoying that the exit is red and my trade vehicles can't leave.
  11. Too Many Hotels

    maxis has way too many things to fix. i dont know what u mean by the problem if the lizard vists. if he visits, just plop down a garbage dump in front of him, and he wont destroy anything else.
  12. Trade Port Shipping Issues

    when you set to export/import, the trucks that collect/bring resources come from the region. you dont need to have trucks garages/trucks. you only need them when you want to ship the resources from your port to whatever industry needs it. that said, you are right that there is a bug where the region still keeps sending trucks to collect your resources, eg when you are exporting a resource. this happens even if you plop down a ship yard or a freight rail terminal. the only way i know around it is to use segregation (disconnecting road to region), which was introduced by another user Skye Storme. go search around and you can see what i mean.
  13. Too Many Hotels

    the most convenient way i think is to dezone all your commercial buildings before you plop down a landmark or expo. then rezone the parts where u want the hotels to be. that way your shops will remain as shops and the newly zone area will spawn hotels.

    not every government on earth imposes minimum wage...just on your point about being realistic.

    if the solar farm catches on fire bug is not fixed, a simple way around it is to have a big fire station with 2 fire helicopters. that should be enough to put out any fire in the solar farm. worked for me in previous versions.

  17. Question about arcology

    yeah, same as all great works. you just have to plop down alot of power plants and water and then go back to great works view, and now u will see it is taking power and water. as to how much? there is probably an answer, but i nvr bothered to figure out.

    I tried this before. works great. but when I went to high density, I needed several connections to the main avenues, because sims are not smart enough to take the less congested one,.
  19. Population panel bug?!

    I hope 5.1 will come out soon. this is happening to me almost every time i play. I give up because it would take me so long just o quit the game, so I use ALT-F4. And yesterday my nvidia graphics card didnt like it. refused to be detected ever since. I am so pissed now. I tried to enjoy this game as much as i can, but this is really just too much. such bugs are so ridiculous, it makes everyone at Maxis look like a fool, and I wish they are reading this!

  21. Population panel bug?!

    it has happened to me more than 5 times since 4.0. You can sort of move your mouse and the icons change color, when your mouse is over them, although you cant see the arrow. but I normally just ALT+F4 and rejoin the game. i just hope the new patch will fix this. sigh....
  22. Empty Truck Garages

    I have mentioned this in another thread. it is stupid, but u have to bulldoze the garages and plop new ones. and if it happens again, repeat the process
  23. like I mentioned in another thread, maxis should give us control over this. why can't they let us set up bus routes, it really isn't that hard. similar thing can be done for trash collection, recycling collection and even set zones where police cars can patrol. this will also solve all traffic issues. i feel like all people are doing in this game, are finding tips and tricks to beat the simulation flaw. Some include T-intersection, putting gambling halls right next to train stations, putting trade depots next to highway, not zoning on major avenues. However, this game will be perfect, if we can use some realistic logic to solve problems.

    I like how you spelt sleek as slick. anyway I like the pictures. How do people ensure their city is not over run by taxis? That happened to me, and tourists stopped coming. I know pereblenta has a solution but I dont like the tedious way of dezoning, bulldozing the commercial buildings to ensure hotels dont pop up.
