cannot get SimCity Societies up and running again..
pawzisme replied to pawzisme's topic in City-Building Games
I did google. I have actually got the base game up and running now - it needed two patches. Cannot get Destinations to install though. Am waiting for Origin to respond -
I played this game on this 64bit Windows 7 a year or so again, including the download expansion of Destinations, and then left it to one side for a bit, but not uninstalled, while I did other things. This week I fancied to have another go at it, for affections sake, but could not get it to start. I uninstalled Destinations and the original, cleaned out all references in registry, and then reinstalled the DVD, but the game does not run beyond the launcher screen now, I just get a black screen and cursor, and Destinations does not install - what am I doing wrong? I set properties to Admin only and compatibility mode for XP SP2, fiddled with the resolution and other options, but no joy.

hello folks, hope this title counts as 'city-building' so you won't throw me out on me ear. I am having a very frustrating time just now! My games drive suddenly failed couple of days back, so I had to reformat, put all my Steam games back on ( which took ages), and then tried to put all my CityXL upgrades on, and they wouldn't behave - and Focus sent me tp Metaboli - and Metaboli don't seem in much of a hurry to help, etc etc, so, to cheer meself up, I decided to go back to Glory of the Roman Empire, which is years old, but which I used to quite enjoy. Predictably it wouldn't work on W7 64 bit - took an hour to install, which was a clue. Same result with the older 32 bit machine, so I thought I would try it in Windows Xp mode on the 32 bit, which is a feature on W7. The game installed normally on there, and the patch went on, but then, when I ask it to play, I am asked for the original CD, which it already is. This has to be a Tage thing, so I obtain a certain fix for that, but that brings up a runtime error ( though I am going to try again). Then I go to gog.com to see if they might be offering that title - which would be without DRM of course - for a reasonable sum, but no, not on their list. So I thought I would ask advice on here, hoping there would be a dedicated forum for that title, but seems there is not... and I feel all alone (sob), standing here, wondering...... Umm, been looking up the topic of running games in virtual XP, and it doesn't look good, since VXP was conceived to help business users, not gamers. I thought it might be useful for older games that do not require good graphics, but it seems probably not... sigh. I shall have to wait for gog.com to bring a version of Gotre out I s'pose.

hello folks I was on here about a month ago, and being tickled pink to find there were MODS for SC4, I donated some cash and chose DVD3 ( I think). Well, today I came on here to see if I could get some wisdom on City XL problems, and THAT jogged my memory about the DVD for SC4 mods - which still has not come, over a month later. The blurb on the donations page seemed to indicate I would not have to wait that long. My last post on here was called something like 'a couple of little worries' because I saw on the Paypal e-mail that the person I had paid the money to was a Dat Pham, and I wondered if that was right, thinking it ought to be a group rather than a person. You assured me it would arrive, but now I am thinking it should have been here by now. I sthere anyone I can ask do you know please?

thank you Ltw, I will rest on that

Hello all from sunny Hampshire. I came on here yesterday to ask advice about SC4, and got it, and that led me to STEX, where I donated some money and opted for Disk3 of the mods. When I came to the site yesterday I got a warning from my security that it was an unsafe site, but I allowed it and thought no more of it at the time. The same thing happened today, and now I am a little concerned because, when I looked at the Paypal transaction, I see that the money has been paid to Dat Pham, who sounds like a Vietnamese individual rather than a group of people. It makes me wonder if the unsafe-ness my security warns about could be referring to some form of redirecting. Can you reassure me please?

sorted! happy me.thank you all

oh! OK then, goody. Thank you I might get it off Steam or GG sometime, but having just spent all me pennies on the donation, I will go on using the disc for now.

it doesn't say 'deluxe', so I am thinking I need to get the download from GG or Steam I have applied the two european patches though..

umm.. I have just installed SC4 to 64 bit W7, updated it with two patches, and then installed Rush Hour. Then I went to the mods page here to download the launcher mod so I can set the cpu to 1 - and while I was there I saw the offer to receive a DVD of mods for a donation, so opted for Disk 3 and paid.... and now I am wondering if I will have to get the Steam version before I can use any of the mods - is that right?
