So... I thought I'd join in the fun here. Though this isn't that impressive, I found it fun to make. As you can see, I needed to cross two rivers with a highway. However, after crossing the first river (the one on top) there was not enough room to make a turn and another bridge to cross the second river. So, I dropped the highway to ground level as it made a loop, then brought the highway back under itself to make a tunnel under the water. I like it, but like I said it's not very impressive ...
  2. City Journal: Duthford

Thanks, uncrazycooper. So, I think from now on I'll post one post per city... because there are just too many separate cities on Duthford. Oh, and in case you didn't notice, I recolorized the physical map of Duthford and added elevations, to give people an idea of that. See the fourth post.
  3. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

    LOL, nice one vidioman!
  4. City Journal: Duthford

Thanks for all your comments. tommy_toon: Lucky you (and completely coincidentally, I assure you) Dodohead was actually the next city founded. See below for more details. jt: I made the region myself as a .bmp file, then imported it to SC4. It took 4 or 5 hours to make the region, and on my old 733MHz computer it took 12 hours to import, but it was worth it (in my opinion). It is based on (kind of) my friends old backyard terrain. So, who's ready for an update? Well, here we go. Let's go in order of the founding of the city... starting w/ Seaside. Next, we have Seashore. Next, Tiki. This city has grown a lot since last time, so there are now three images of it. Next, Portland. Catalina island has not grown at all, so no update on that. Finally, the newly founded and quite strange looking town of Dodohead (it is posting a profit, though, surprisingly enough). Now, where is Dodohead, you ask? Well, for that, let's go to another region view! Actually, we'll do a side by side. Old is first, then new. OLD NEW Questions? Comments? Concerns?
  5. City Journal: Duthford

So, I guess it would be nice of me to put a region view, huh? Ok, here it is.
  6. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Hey! I hadn't checked back on this thread because I thought Sparky was gone for good, but I come to find out today he's back! Welcome back! So, I have confidence that Sparky and jt will continue to work together to create EXCELLENT BAT files and so much more. Thank you both, and keep up the good work.
  7. City Journal: Duthford

So, I haven't updated in awhile, but let's try this again. I have actually been building bits and pieces of Duthford, but I lack a storyline (because I have no plot creativity whatsoever) so I will just be posting updates on how the cities are doing and such forth. Here is a map of Duthford broken down in to it's provinces... Alright, now on to the goodies. I have at least one snapshot of each city, so here they are in the order they were founded. First, Seaside. The first image is the western (older) portion and the second is the eastern (newer) portion. Next is Seashore, which hasn't changed much (except a lot of commercial development)... Next is Tiki. It is growing even more quickly than Seaside, and may surpass it in population in the coming years. Then we have Portland, a city founded between Seaside and Tiki. Portland is still in its dirty days of industry and low wealth residents whereas Seaside and Tiki are beginning to turn away from this style. The first image is the industrial western portion of the city, while the second is the residential east. Finally, we have Catalina Island, which is a getaway destination and a working city in itself for people on the mainland. It's kind of the Puerto Rico of Duthford (so far). These are all the cities on Duthford so far, but rest assured, more developments are to come, and just for a peek in to the future Tiki will grow to a very large city, but will only be the second most populous city in Duthford. Questions? Comments? Concerns?
  8. No Palm Mods

Great! Portland never looked good with palm trees, as jtportland said.
  9. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Looking great as usual, jt. I personally liked the windows how they were, but as it seems a majority didn't then I guess it was best to change them. That Made in Oregon sign looks just about like the real thing. I can't compliment you enough on your work.
  10. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Aww, come on Sparky. You're the reason I keep coming back to Simtropolis. When I saw that there was a penguin in Portland, I couldn't resist posting. You and jt do great work, especially together. Well, if you can't work out your differences with Dirk (or just not converse with him anymore)... well, it's completely up to you (obviously), but I think everyone here would agree that we want you to keep posting here. If you are still bent on leaving, then, have fun. Keep up the good (hard) work, and good luck with all you do. Until I read that post, I was going to say something else. I have a suggestion for a future BAT project. I don't know what the building is called, but it's a big residential building (I believe it's a retirement facility) on McGloughlin, just north of Westmoreland Park and right where Crystal Spring (the spring, not the street) goes under McGloughlin (Hwy 99E, I believe). It has a unique shape. I just thought it would be interesting to model in SimCity 4.
  11. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Great job, again. I think if I check in every two or three days I'll have posted Great job enough times to become a Veteran in no time...
  12. What if

Then for Halloween they would dress up like people. What if Portland, Oregon was named Boston, Oregon?
  13. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Oh and I forgot to mention Holy GEEZ these buildings are looking great! Sparky and JT, both of you are doing a great job, and putting way more work in to this than I ever would be able to, or that I ever imagined anyone would. Keep up the good work.
  14. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Geez! I was gone for 2 weeks and this thread exploded! So many new posts... oh well. Um, I guess nobody remembers me anymore.... So, anyway, just letting everyone know I'm still here.
  15. What if

Then I guess they wouldn't be doing Priceline commercials anymore. What if all gravity in the universe switched, so that gravity pushed things away from each other?
  16. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Now I travel through Portland all the time... I live in Carver, and work in Beaverton. For the past three days, I have had a chance to get a good look at that Fox Tower, and I'd have to say you are doing an excellent job on it. Keep up the good work.
  17. City Journal: Duthford

Thanks for the comments. I think the reason it's so fuzzy is because I'm using 600 x 800 pics, and the upload site I use takes 599 x 799 pics or less. So I've been resizing the images... but I can instead just cut off a pixel from the height and width, and keep the image quality. Sorry about the blurriness.
  18. City Journal: Duthford

Finally an update, albeit a small one. Seaside was named just recently, as the first city on the new land Duthford. Over a period of many years, Tiki and friends explored the rest of the land.... back to that in a bit... Seaside has grown some, shown in this image. A new town is being built to the east, where another smaller river meets the ocean. It will likely be named Seashore. Now, to Duthford itself (the region). Mountains, rivers, etc. were named, and are shown on the following... The important mountains are: 2; Post Mountain 3; Border Mountain 5; Mount Duthford (tallest peak) 6; Mount Transylvania 8; Mount Tiki 9; Mexica Peak 13; Leaf Hill 14; Seaside Mountain 15; Mount Sideway 17 - 19; Pumpkin Ridge 20; Tree Peak 22; Midway Peak 23; Mount Lawsonville 24; Icelandia Peak 25; Mount Eaglee 27; Weezy Mountain 28; Whiskers Mountain 29 - 31; Three Sisters (Volcanically Active) 33; Marincy Peak 34; Mount Lorea 35 - 46; Vulcan Peaks (Volcanically Active) City-States are being planned, and a leader for each will be chosen. They have not been named yet, but see the next update for this. That's all for today.
  19. The Portland & Oregon BAT Team, Chapter 1

Cool, I think I could spare some time on the weekends going out to Oregon City... I actually live in Carver, if you know where that is... kind of on the way to Estacada, but not nearly as far east. I have also lived in Lents, and SE Portland near Flavel and 72nd... and am quite familiar with Milwaukie... even though there's really nothing in Milwaukie . If ya ever need me, just ask... some day I'll probably reply.
  20. City Journal: Duthford

You can now see how the town is coming... This is a large view of the town so far. You can see the river to the west--the bay to the south is just out of the picture. The farms are on the north side of the town, and some of the cows and chickens which were brought off the ship live in the open areas near the farms. To the south are the residences, and there is the lumber plant just east of the port. Here are some more zoomed-in images... These images show where the important places are... such as the outdoor plaza used for now as the town hall. Is that an early version of a downtown growing where those businesses are? As we will see soon, these people were explorers for a reason. Many got bored in this town, and went out to explore the surrounding land. Next time, we will also see the decision for the naming of the town (no, there is no town on Duthford named Duthford...)
  21. City Journal: Duthford

Hehe... yeah, I think I see what you're talking about... Anyway... it all starts on another planet. This planet has a slightly higher gravity, which has two major impacts on the world you look at. First, rainwater erosion is almost non existant, due to the smaller droplets which fall. Secondly, river systems which come from melting glaciers dig deeper in to their rockbeds, causing canyons to be quite common, and thin. Duthford, which you will later find out, was created by a series of volcanic eruptions which caused very thick layers of lava to flow. These events happened every 2 or 3 hundred thousand years, way back when the planet was younger. Therefore, the erosion you will see on Duthford makes it look somewhat terraced. The only active volcanoes left in Duthford are on South Jockey, and East Marincy Islands... but you'll find out about this later. A group of explorers, explorers being not common on this planet, set out by boat to map an area of the Habinth Ocean which had not been mapped. This group included... Nimbo Tiki: Meteorologist Strato Panthy: Climatologist Jonathan Eaglee: Geologist Dariel Dodohead Clawm: Police Officer Durol Dumbohead Clawm: Fireman Rianj Pingtoy: Veterenarian Lanni Bibla: Linguist Hera Scholasta: Professor Rex Lawson: Politician Cravo Mario: Lawyer Oaken Arborio: Lumberjack Bill Elem: Farmer Herb Hacin: Farmer Ferrn Lecin: Farmer Niho Sudra: Doctor Bria Floria: Nurse Colin Colin: Construction Worker Marcio Velus: Worker Niko Norda: Worker ... and their families. As you can see, there is a great variety of backgrounds here. Many of these families also have good workers, for example, Niho Sudra's son has worked in a car repair shop for years. During their travels westward, however, a storm struck the ship. It knocked down the sails, and our explorers were left floating wherever the sea took them. It turned out, though, that this was not such a bad thing. About two days after the storm, land was spotted to the north... however, the ship continued to drift westward. Eventually, the land curved away, and the crew was dissapointed. However, soon afterwards, the ship began to drift to the northwest. A large mountain was sighted on an island in the distance. The ship passed this island to the north, and further north yet, a long, straight beach loomed far on the horizon. As the ship continued to drift northwestward, the beach grew closer, and a river flowing in to the sea was spotted. The estuary of this river was comprised of a large bay. The ship eventually landed on the east side of the river, in the bay. Of course, by now, the crew was tired of boats, so they got off and began work on a town to support them while they waited to be rescued. Luckily, the radio onboard the ship survived the storm, and within a month a ship was sent out to save the crew. However, this ship was caught in a storm itself, and had to go back. Fortunately, the crew who landed were beginning to like the land. They sent a message over radio that they wished not to be picked up. A lumber mill was created for Mr. Arborio to begin building real housing. A seaport was created for others who wished to come to this new land too (if they could make it through the storms )... I guess I'll show you the map of the area in which the crew landed... This is a picture of a mountain which looms in the north of the new settlement. This is the river's mouth. You cannot see the sides of the bay here, it is larger than this picture... this is just the back of the bay. More just ahead...
  22. City Journal: Duthford

Sorry for the length of time between posts.... it took 15 hours to upload my region, and then it screwed up so I had to do it again... It's ok... I finally have a jpg of the region uploaded (not uploaded to Simtropolis)... This is the elevation map of the region... I already have the political and geographical maps of Duthford, however, I do not know whether I should show them yet... it might give something away.
  23. What if

It's likely my eyes would burn... and what happened to the chlorophyl? What if you had the oportunity to see the world through someone else's eyes, and it turns out that they see every color the opposite as you do?
  24. City Journal: Duthford

Yeah... but I don't think a disaster is likely to destroy a whole city.... then again, maybe it will be, we'll just have to see.
  25. What if

Personally, I could care less... What if George W. Bush and his army of morons marched up your street, exclaiming 1 + 1 = 3!!! Make it an amendment!
