  1. How YOU use Mapp Squad Maps!

Those are GREAT farming communities, RHF. I never can make farming communities that well. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the compliments! One large city square, eh? LOL, that would lag soooo badly! :)
  3. Nehalem

Well, it's been a long while. I still have Nehalem, but I have been pre-occupied with other things... for one, the Mapp Squad. Maybe I'll update Nehalem tomorrow. In the meantime, thanks to bobinator, gundamdude, SC4 meister, sloppet, jeronij, your_adress_here, and Simguyuk for your great comments!

  5. RadioheadFans PR Thread!

  6. MallowTheClouds Maps

Date: 4/9/2005 8:57:27 PM Author: comdude21 Your mapping really is amazing Mallow. You're the biggest contributor to the Mapp Squad so far as far as the amount of time you've put into these maps. Your recent maps look excellent, along with your older ones. You've also taken the bulk of the requests, and I appreciate that as well. Making those scale maps is really hard, and so many of your maps are to exact scale. Great job on all of your maps. The only thing I saw that wasn't completely accurate on your maps is on the NYC map, with the amount of lakes there. That, and I didn't see the Palisades (Cliffs) in NJ on the Hudson River. As for the lakes, some of them do exist, probably most of them. But some of them, like the Central Park lake, are a bit too big. Not that you should update the map or anything for this, because it's not much of a problem at all. I've had too many lakes on some of my maps too. But other than that, the NYC map looks really good. Good luck with your future maps. You've become one of the best mappers out there, great job Mallow. comdudequote> Thanks to everybody for all your compliments!!! And thanks for the information, comdude. The way SC4 imports maps, it makes the waterways just a bit bigger than they should be. I usually try to resolve that by making the waterways a touch smaller in the greyscale... but the smallest waterways (and lakes) I can't do that with, because they are already only one or two pixels wide. And, the cliffs are kind of my fault. When I transfered the water template I accidentally made the waterways too wide. So... it's kind of hard to explain... but what I did made it to where the area bordering all the water is low elevation, completely cancelling out any cliffs. However, the issues can be pretty easily resolved with a little bit of terraforming... so I hope that people don't mind it too much.
  7. Official Mapping Community Requests

Thanks for the info, RHF! And, comdude, I think it would be great if you took Las Vegas. I'll edit my above post to reflect these changes.

  16. Mapp Squad Ottawa

The modd file allows SC4 to import higher mountains when rendering a greyscale image. This makes the elevations much more accurate, SC4-wise. And thanks for the comments!

Date: 4/9/2005 9:46:50 AM Author: Granthos I hate to bother u guys again, but something is wrong, i tried to follow clouds insturctions, and i put the folder in the regions one, and downloaded and put it in the, and then i went and ran the game, (I installed the gray scale to desktop). It wouldent recognize it?? what is up with that, most of my other citie have the same problem, they are listed on the load a region in game, but are no inside of the region folder. If you guys could maybe point me to where this has hppened before that would be great. Will quote> Hmmm... I think I understand the problem. So, you installed the greyscale to the desktop? So, now you have an image on your desktop that is a greyscale image, right? If you right click on the greyscale image on your desktop, it should tell you that it's a .jpg (or jpeg) file. If it is, then go in to SimCity4. Open the region (which is blank at first), do the ctrl-alt-shift-r, and look for your desktop (it might be something like C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\). If you find your desktop, the image should be right there. I hope I understood your problem right, and I hope that solved the issue.

Date: 4/8/2005 8:40:38 PM Author: the_new_simman I am having a major problem when using MICRODEM for my Southern California Region. Here's what happens when I enter in the elevation data from the tutorial like I always do: (just to let you know, I did double check what numbers a put in for the z scale and they were correct) Please help me! Why is it all white? Is this bad? Thanks for the help. quote> Well, I had typed up a big long response to this, but just as I was almost finished my computer froze... So... to make a long story short, that happened because you have white (highest elevation) set to 600 meters, which is only about 2000 feet. That will make a plateau in SimCity at that elevation, with no mountains above that elevation. The way to fix it would be to change white in MicroDEM to a higher elevation.... say.... 2000 meters? I don't know how to do that, because I don't use MicroDEM... but I hope this helps at least a little.

That's a great plan! Why restrict our maps to just one language? Any map that I make/have made is free to be translated and put on the SC4 Brazil website.

Date: 4/8/2005 12:28:21 PM Author: vidioman Yesterday, my nazi uncle broke down that door, and started trowing my dads stuff all over the floor, then he took a shelf downstairs, and made me put all of the hockey equipment into the basement, and started complaining about my mom's side of the family (calling them f---ing indians, and whatnot) after a few minutes of that, I went elsewhere to calm down (ie. Prevent me from killing him) and then my dad came home about an hour later, and freaked out (he hates his brother. Alot.) My uncle keeps saying he's going to move in there (he currently lives in... umm... my grandmothers bedroom closet) and that has my dad upset because he has lived there since he was 10 (1976) and basically took care of the house after my great-grandparents were unable to. Now my uncl is going there all the time, and complaining 'grampa woulding like the kids here, grampa wouldn't want a dog' well, I think I know from his world war 2 experience that grampa woulding like a nazi in his basement either! Playing Dungeons and Dragons with the rest of his racist loser friends. This is going to be a very long weekend.....................................quote> Whoa.... that sucks. I wish I could give you more comfort... but... that just plain sucks. Good luck!
  25. Official Mapping Community Requests

I can do Ottawa for you. However, I'm kind of stacked up for this Saturday. Maybe TNS will let me break a rule and do 4 maps this week (to help relieve a little more of our long request list)... that way I'd be doing Everett, WA; NYC, New York; and Ottawa, Quebec?, Canada.
