Making Map Bigger or Smaller
MallowTheCloud replied to the_new_simman's topic in Mapping Community Room
Date: 5/10/2005 7:26:18 PM Author: the_new_simman That's odd because when I tried to render a map that is bigger than the default it always says, 'Region Size Must Be: 1024x1024'. Anyone else get this?quote> Yes, as vester said, you have to create a config.bmp (Landscape Designer helps with that). Then you have to put it in the region folder, then you can upload your newly resized region. -
I hope I get picked as well... I was looking forward to building ASAP.

Yet Another Avatar Event... Blank Avatar Week
MallowTheCloud replied to The_Dalai_Llama's topic in Simtropolis Related
I'm in! I haven't changed my avater since I first came to ST. Of course, this is Mallow The Cloud after all, how could I change that? Well, for a week I can handle it. -
Yes, there are two reasons why Yellowstone got such a high rating, and neither are because an eruption is imminent: 1) The one mentioned in the article--there are smaller hazards that pose a risk to the great numbers of tourists who visit each year. For example, large hydrothermal (i.e. geysers, hot springs, etc) events, gas leaks, etc. Also, there's a slight risk that a Mt. St. Helens sized volcanic eruption could happen within the caldera in our lifetimes. 2) The ever so slight possibility that there would be a supereruption. Though this risk is almost non-existant, the consequences would be catastrophic. It's a lot like saying what if a meteor struck?. Though it's not likely to happen in our lifetime, the result would be so destructive that we should think about preparations and better ways to predict such an event.

Trying to render a region, but nothing happens.
MallowTheCloud replied to zachary's topic in Mapping Community Room
Hmm, the shadows are going to be a problem for you there. I've never made a region directly from the satellite data, my main source is always a USGS DEM-type file. But, sometimes you can get interesting results from shadows! Other than that, flamesrock is right about the greyscale-not-rendering part. -

I believe in one folder of the NAM, there is a list of mods, and you can choose which one you want. I think the one you would want is perfect pathfinding, whatever you want for capacity (up to 5x), 10x commute speed, and 10x commute distance.

Official Mapping Community Requests
MallowTheCloud replied to RadioheadFan's topic in Mapping Community Room
Date: 5/7/2005 2:24:24 AM Author: sum gai [:0][:0][:0] I haven't been on simtrop in a few months, I come back and mind a whole organized mapp squad!! Amazing! I saw Gold Beach, OR up there somewhere - would it be possible to do Coos Bay, OR?quote> Seeing as I live in Portland, I'd be happy to do Coos Bay . But, I have to finish these international maps first... I've been taking a break from map making for a little bit so I could summon up the stamina to finish all these requests... and I think I'll begin today. For those of you still waiting for international maps, I'm sorry I haven't done them yet. They will probably be released on Thursday or Friday. -
MrVegetables Mapp Squad Maps
MallowTheCloud replied to MrVegetable's topic in Mapping Community Room
I don't think there's anything wrong with using Landscape Designer. If you can get the requested map using it (though you may have to do a little tweaking), go for it! -

Nice update! I'm still here, still waiting for us to get our designated regions.

CPT Terrain Mod - Trees
MallowTheCloud replied to CycleDogg's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Date: 5/5/2005 12:15:51 AM Author: joerg For those having problems with the terrain paramters file just open it up and change sea level back to 250 import scale to 3 and max height to 2500. You can do this by getting the ilive reader or datgen then opening the dat file and select the first exemplar. All these settigns are in there. They all can have an amazing impact on the game. I for one would love to see a new standard import scale if cycle dogg would maybe like to team up on somethign like that. With these settings you can render maps with mountains many times there normal height amoung many other things. quote> There is actually already a mod that does this. I have been using it on my maps for awhile. It can be found here . -

Well, this makes me glad I've donated to ST... even if it is hardly anything Though I just joined back in October, I remember when there was a lot of orange and black on ST (I think?), and when it switched to white/grey, the performance of the site did seem to improve markedly. Thanks to everyone who makes ST possible!

Nice work! Let me know if there are any problems with the map before you get too far in to this...

Portland has an urban growth boundary in place to stop just that--sprawl. It's really strict, and a lot of land owners just outside the boundary don't like it because they can't build whatever they want there.... Oh well, too bad for them.

Cannot render IMAGES in to REGIONS
MallowTheCloud replied to alexmatusiak's topic in Mapping Community Room
comdude is right about the first part... Hey, comdude, do you have a screensaver or does anything shut off after your computer runs for awhile without being used? That's probably why moving your mouse helps. If you can find the settings for Energy Saving and turn them off, and/or turn off your screen saver while you render, that may solve that problem... but then I'd suggest you turn off your monitor while rendering, just to make sure an image isn't burned in to the screen... On to the other issue... I have had times when a perfectly good jpg image wouldn't render, and did exactly what alex explains (nothing). The solution that worked for me was to load the jpg in an image editor (I used IrfanView), raise the color depth, then drop it back to a greyscale jpg and save it... Unfortunately, I don't know if this will help your situation, as you said this problem is affecting all your jpg images. My only other suggestion would be to completely reinstall SC4... though this is just a guess. -
Ok, this has gone too far! Update 66... it looks like PHOTOGRAPHS! It's even more realistic than real life! I don't know how this is possible, Jeroni, and frankly, I don't care anymore. All I care about is looking at all the creations and little details you put in your cities. They are so good, nobody can say anything other than amazing or beautiful... and yet there should be a better word to describe this. All I can say and hope for is, keep up the wonderful art, and keep showing it to us!

OMG!!!!!!!! This is the BEST.... ... ... I mean WORST CJ out there! And, what's with those graphs? For education, health, environment, safety, and land value... of course those are all extremely bad... But your traffic is perfect. Wow! How stupid can your sims be. Then again, they really are stupid, so I guess they probably think a 6 hour commute to travel less than a mile (were it a straight line) is normal. Keep up the awful work!

Date: 4/30/2005 5:19:13 PM Author: rp2005 Can I suggest a scenic [oppies] canal through a landfill site - it could be Worst City's primary tourist attraction - after all they must have built all those hotels for a reason quote> OOH! Great idea! Then, you could put a river with agriculture all around it, making it as black as possible! Then, put the water pump (if there's going to be water ) smack in the middle of the pollution. Hmm, what else could you do... well, I have an idea, but it's really hard to explain so forget it
