Collaboration of the Mapping Community
MallowTheCloud replied to the_new_simman's topic in Mapping Community Room
Yes, I like the idea of a 'discussion' forum for maps. An exchange of ideas. Any thoughts or opinions on the matter? -

I hope not as well. -
I'll be leaving either Thursday (today-ish) or Friday to camp in the beautiful Cascades... until probably Tuesday or Wednesday. This is my first real vacation since I joined ST.

Remember to follow the site rules and this thread will remain, if rules are broken, I'll have to clean it again. But don't worry. as the official gay thread of simtropolis it will remain, and I will not delete it, nor close it.quote> Good to know... and as before, we will try to keep this as good-natured as we can.

What Music are you listening to right now?
MallowTheCloud replied to GingerBlokey's topic in General Off-Topic
Well, I selected a random tune from my playlist and it was: Saint-Saens' Symphony Number 3 Organ Which just so happens to be the tune whose theme was used as the theme for the movie Babe... the one with the pig. The next tune on my playlist is: Final Fantasy 9 - 418 Hidden Lips... Well, what can I say? I have FF9, FF10, Classical, Jazz (Including SC3K music), Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Orchestral Mario, Mario RPG, and Warcraft 2 music in my playlist... and now it's on an FF10 tune. -

Date: 8/1/2005 3:00:48 AM Author: General Gunfire Everyone knows I tolerate being homosexual and I have no problem with it (except for when being gay becomes a huge stereotypical mish-mash), but my stance on same-sex marriage is the same. I think that if a couple really loves each other that much, a civil union should be just fine. Holy matrimony has always been heterosexual. As many close to me know and a few on ST, I am highly traditional. I hope this doesn't make anyone angry, and I hope you can understand my feelings about it without getting pissed. I love you all! (In that spiritual/every-human-is-bisexual way)-The Generalquote> I greatly respect that you were so civil in your post. However, I disagree with your logic for the following reason: In the 1800s and before, a 'traditional' marriage did not involve interracial marriage. In fact, if you want to find the real roots of a 'traditional' marriage, you would have to go back to when the families chose the spouse for their children. There is almost nothing 'traditional' about marriages we have today. Marriage has changed as values have changed. Now that homosexuality is (hopefully) becoming somewhat more accepted, homosexual marriage is becoming more common (in other countries mostly, so far). Attempts to restrict homosexual marriage are very similar to attempts to restrict interracial marriage in the late 1800s. But, as suggested by mentarman... there are really two different 'types' of marriage. Religious marriage and governmental marriage. In religious marriage, it is the church's responsibility to determine who can and cannot get married. I believe that any two people who wish to live together as a 'couple' should have the option to get married, in the government sense. This is the only fair way to give everybody equal rights. Once again, though, I do greatly appreciate your sincerity, straightforwardness, and civility.

newyorkrunaway1s Quick Scale Guide
MallowTheCloud replied to newyorkrunaway1's topic in Mapping Community Room
Well, without any mods for changing the scale... it is 3 meters per greyscale difference. So, while the 84-greyscale is about 0 meters, the 150-greyscale is around 198 meters. The maximum, or 255-greyscale, is 513 meters. I hope this helps. -
MallowTheClouds Official Map Making Guide
MallowTheCloud replied to the_new_simman's topic in Mapping Community Room
Date: 8/1/2005 4:28:09 AM Author: aasim45 I am having a slight problem. In the last step of the Global Mapper program, you have said to press the 'Print Screen' button on the keyboard and then open IrfanView and paste (Ctrl + V) the image there. But when I press 'Print Screen', the Print Options come up (the one under File Menu). It doesn't seem to copy the image onto the clip-board. Is there any other way to do this? P.S.: I don't have a Printer.quote> Well, there are a few things we could try. First of all... usually, Print Screen only tries to send the information to the printer if you're running DOS... so I have no idea why this isn't working for you. However, here are three things you could try: 1) Alt + Print Screen... this function is supposed to just take a screenshot of the window rather than the entire screen. 2) The IrfanView method... Open up IrfanView first. Go to the 'Options' menu, then down to 'Capture/Screenshot'. You can leave all these options at default... except if the Include mouse cursor option is checked, make sure to uncheck it. Look at the top right of that screen where it says Hot key:... it may be 'Ctrl + F11'. Click 'Start', then go to Global Mapper, get the image that you need, and hit 'Ctrl + F11'. This should capture the screen to IrfanView directly. 3) Download a program like SnagIt which is specifically meant for Screen-Captures. I am unsure how to use this program, but I know that this is what it is meant for. I hope this helps. -
Portland (Oregon)... but then I'm biased, 'cause that's where I'm from.

Date: 7/30/2005 8:56:12 AM Author: Rezidor Hi Mallow, at first I must say that I really love your great maps! They are wonderful and really true to scale! Now I one wish. Could you please make the Region of Long Beach , but Long Beach near Los Angeles (CA)? It would be very nice if you could do this! Thanks! MfG Rezidorquote> Thank you for the comments. I would love to do this map for you, but there is already a long list in the requests thread. Maybe after I finish Lafayette, LA, I'll look in to Long Beach. And Airmale, I do very much appreciate that comment! The Gorge is one of my favourite maps, and there's really not all that much interest in it. So, I'm glad you said something. EDIT: Lafayette has been released and is slated to show up soon!
