  1. I've already made a date prediction and reasoning, twice, and both times it's been deleted, so I'm either right on the dot for the date or I'm completely off, but It's looking like my predictions are somewhat accurate. I wonder if the banner is getting new buildings...
  2. What is your Music Player of Choice?

Since this thread has gotten moving, I'll state what I have. I have a black 30GB Video iPod for everything media function it can do. I also have a mint green 2nd gen 1GB iPod shuffle, which I use for Audiobooks, Podcasts, and Music.

When ST 6 comes out, there'll be probably 5 threads or so that want it changed or they'll leave...or hate the change until new years. I wonder if the new one will be glossy...or Web 2.0 styled(isn't that a weird term?).
  4. Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band

@Duke87: I'm in a bit of a disagreement with you as I enjoy the games for the coordination between button mashing and seeing it on screen, but I will agree with 2 and 3, because the rich blokes that brag about their "amazing guitar hero skills" make me sick(I prefer DDR and FFR more than band games). As for which I prefer, I like the song selection of Guitar Hero, but I like the new drums for Rock Band(you can get symbols for it btw). I'm somewhat on the middle I don't own ethier to play most of the time.
  5. Building a super low voltage DC brushed electric motor

Congratulations! You've surpassed the "Accidental Multiple Thread Post" record(the previous record was 7).
  6. What's your screen resloution?

1440x900 on my "gaming" PC and 1280x800 on my internet laptop. I don't usually like widescreen monitors as most usually have trouble working at normal resolutions, so you get the stretch effect, and what's worse is most monitors I've encountered can't change from 16:9 to 4:3, so you can't get rid of it. My monitor has a button to switch from the two, but some newer monitors now do this automatically.
  7. Simtropolis Site Bugs

I'm hoping the banner isn't a seriously bad thing, and just some color play by the admins or some bored hacker.
  8. can still see the grid through lots

I'm assuming that hiding the grid doesn't do anything or this isn't the grid used for building in a city. To turn off the grid, hit the G key, in most cases, the grid will disappear(this grid issues happens on PCs too)

  10. Stray Shopping cart field guide

@Skigeek: I always thought Kroger's had a weird collection of carts. The first site is cool and amusing...seeing where the carts have ended up, great find!
  11. If your account wasn't transferred from ST version 2, then you were 16. Though even if you were around on 2, then you'd still be in high school.
  12. Most insane buildings

I did some research on the W building, it's a proposed building "complex" in Prague, CZ called the Walter Towers.
  13. Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against EA

The EULA states(under Technical Protection Measures)... Our Software uses access control and copy protection technology. An internet connection is required to authenticate the Software and verify your license. If you are not connected to the Internet, you will not be able to use the Software until you reestablish an internet connection and verify the license. The first end user of this License can install and authenticate the Software on a set number of machines which may vary by product. If the Software permits access to additional online features, only one copy of the Software may access those features at one time. Additional terms and registration may be required to access online services and to download Software updates and patches. Only licensed software can be used to access online services, and download updates and patches. If you disable or otherwise tamper with the technical protection measures, the Software will not function properly." It merely states that there will be copy protection installed in the software, it doesn't say the software is a separate entity which is permanent, potentially damaging to other software, and running in core of the OS(how exactly one would do this is beyond me). It's misleading and bad writing as it talks about it being in the software, which would make people assume it goes away when the software goes away, but it's a separate piece of software, which isn't mentioned in the EULA. Essentially, it installs something else behind your back without your permission or without informing you of this action.

I'm talking the thousands of videos that are setup like different video(using the middle of the video image trick) but turns out to be some crappy conspiracy video from some idiot with windows movie maker and a bunch of poorly edited images. I wish they would display the stars a video has on the sidebar so I could spot a bad video a little easier.
  15. Any mention of possible DRM with cities XL?

I'm more than certain that it'll have some sort of DRM, the question is, how strong will it attempt to be? City Life has a DRM which to most unfortunately, was buggy. SC4 and SC3K actually do have a old form of protection on the discs that keeps them from copied and written to a new useable game disk, it also had the serial code system(which on SC3K didn't work as entering all 0's bypassed it on older copies). The only real difference of modern DRM is that it's installed on your machine as a individual program(rather than a part of the game), it links the computer copy to the disc(so getting new discs doesn't work), it sometimes limits how many copies you use by phoning to a server(Microsoft Office anyone?) and it exists on your computer even after you uninstall the game(though it's not as damaging as people think). All in all, I'm betting it's going to have some form of DRM on it, I just hope it's simple enough for me not to worry about it.
  16. 2008 Hurricane Season

I live in (South)West Ohio, and until just today(Wednesday), I've been without power, (running)water, Internet, Phone and TV since Sunday Afternoon(that's 3 days, or to be more precise, around 77 hours). I never suspected the IKE remnants to cause so much damage here without rain. The wind was strong enough to break some of our privacy fence's posts, and bring a huge section down. It's one thing to lose power, it's a whole different situation to lose running water, and phone. I'm so glad we had the swimming pool to siphon water to flush toilets. All in all, the only thing we lost was, alot of food, some privacy fence, and a few branches, which I'm grateful for, especially after driving around my neighborhood, I discovered some had trees fall on houses, fences, cars, trucks, telephone lines and other trees.
  17. Annoying internet spawn

Born in 1991, I've always been around computers, and I remember when I was given internet access back in 2000(30 minutes on dialup though). I have to admit I'm surprised how much has changed online, unfortunately, I have to also admit I hate how it feels like there's a lack of containment from the idiots, haters, rasicts, flammers, trolls, psychotics and the life forms masquerading as human beings. I'm somewhat neutral on the lol cat thing, but I have 3 cats in my house, and I don't get hammered by them in my inbox. I hate the spam bots that flood any possible avenue for communication that even has a breath of the chance of being popular. I honestly wish there was a way to report deceptive videos on youtube, which unfortunately isn't available on at the moment. I also hate how people think that all wikis are good sources for information even when they are not to be taken seriously(you'd think people would understand Uncyclopedia and various others aren't actual information wikis), I had people refer ridiculous facts from other wikis that are so far off I can't believe they are dumb enough to believe them and use them in a argument or debate. It does bother me how people used to pester me because I don't use Myspace, but now they're on Facebook so it works out. When people ask me if I have one of ethier, I just tell them to look for me and see if I'm there. And finally, I hate getting spammed with memes(which have apparently started going through email), enough said about that. One thing I'm grateful for are those chain messages on websites dieing out, I was seriously wondering how many people actually believed that if they didn't send it, that there would be a dead girl in their closet staring at them with her red eyes.
  18. Lets Abandon Spelling!

Unfortunately, English is one of the vary few languages that has no official organization to maintain the structure and to control the words that are introduced into the language. We are led to think that the Dictionaries are what mean a word exists or not in English, but anyone can start a dictionary, it then becomes what you consider to be a official dictionary and what is purely for entertainment purposes. The other issue is accents change the way the same word may be said, and the spelling may change even though the sound is exactly the same(yet the letters added aren't silent). I think one thing that would possibly improve the language would be to eliminate the duplicate letter sounds, or certain letters altogether.
  19. In all honesty, I don't miss the old ones, because I almost never used them in the first place because they were ineffective. As for what mod I'm using, I'm using the ever classic Radical Ordinance Mod (Version 2.0) Alternative link here: The mod completely replaces ALL the original ordinances with radically modified ordinances that effect different elements of how your city will develop and what is actually needed with the mod. Alot of them allow you to remove a negative element(such as trash or pollution) till it doesn't exist in your city anymore, and in the other direction, you can change it so the game has higher demand rates for Commerical, Farming and/or Industrial. If you do this, then you can tax Industrial to unrealistic levels and wont have a drop in demand, thus keeping your finances in the black. Anyone who is sick of ineffective ordinances, you'll love this mod.
  20. I think you should add. "I enjoy them only after I have installed a mod to change them." I have radical ordinance, and I love it. It allows me to build up job demands in cities just developing, and it's very powerful for the cost.
  21. Don LaFontaine dies at 68

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Don LaFontaine, the man who popularized the now loved-catch phrase, "in a world where..." and lent his voice to thousands of movie trailers, has died. He was 68. LaFontaine died Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness, said Vanessa Gilbert, his agent.quote> Link: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5heecGKGkvVOeQRKdE1oWT_LW8F7QD92UP5102
  22. New ipod lineup

@The Arrowz: This latest Nano is the 4th, not the 3rd. I actually like the Nano, but I don't really like the screen, nothing against it's orientation, but I dislike how the interface looks more like the Touch/iPhone interface... I like the new touch, though I really dislike it's slogan. "The funnest iPod ever." I keep misreading it, and then I think "All the other iPods are as boring as hell." And I find it funny they can't seem to figure out what to do with the shuffle, all they have done the past few years is changed the colours every time the nano's colours change and change the capacity every few years.
  23. MAPX Mount Athos by Spore415

It looks good, but could I see a rendered game shot? I can't see how tall the mountains are from the SC4Terraformer image.
  24. I've heard from EA's UK support forums that it requires a one time online activation, which would mean I would not be able to play it on my own machine as it doesn't have a internet connection. The computer I'm typing this out on doesn't meet the specs for the game so it means I have no qualified machines to run the game on .
  25. Ninjas arrested in New Jersey

Obviously not as good as the ninjas in Modesto, CA (obscure video reference)
