  1. Whats your favorite radio station?

Even though I live in the states, I listen to: BBC Radio 1 (off TuneIn Radio) C89.5 Seattle (also off TuneIn Radio) KXRG My95.9 and KTUH Hawaii Nothing but commercial-free music and cool DJ's, perfect for the daily morning grind. They're the only few stations I know that air music of all genres: rock, techno, electro, hip-hop and everything else not heard of on local radio. Almost every radio station now automate their music on playlists like some iPod with ads that I don't even know there's a DJ at the desk! That just defeats the purpose of radio!

  3. Random Explosions Caused By Tanks

I've had this too. I've tried to recreate a war scene one time with it. In my case, it only happens whenever any lot on the city map is destroyed (i.e. burned, shot by a rocket/missile previously and hasn't yet been bulldozed). That's when the tanks begin shooting at the same time near the base, destroying it in the process. I don't know why it happens but I'm looking into this. I don't know it this will work, but this solution might help. Find any destroyed/burnt lots all across the city and bulldoze them entirely. Once every burnt lot is gone, the base shouldn't have any more berserk tanks.
  4. Possibility of a U.S. Government Shutdown

If we needed the shutdown in the first place, then our lawmakers need a some counseling over here.
  5. What's your opinion of the new BBCode standard Simtropolis has adopted? Personally, I don't like it, I don't like it at all. After using Simtrop's HTML coding some years back, BBCode honestly doesn't cut it. It's too restrictive, and lacks the cool tools ST HTML had before. CJ's were the best with it before, adding tables to clear info clutter was great, resizing 3000 pixel pics were a one step process, and even the HTML source code was available to edit at whim. So what's your opinion of it? Love it? Hate it? Wish it could be improved? You decide. UPDATE* Dirk has stated that the HTML format used during the ST6 era has been ditched and fed to the llamas. However, dirk is open for discussion on what can be done to improve the functionality of the new BBCode platform. *If you have any ideas and requests, please post you opinions and ideas!*
  6. Haha. I think we're all getting creative with it. Gonna try the fancy [gallery] tag once I get used to it all. Just wanted to add my extra two cents. I still don't get how to resize pictures. I just got off from another forum (that had BBCode too), they have an tag used as a default for images. The thing is with ST7 is it changes it to an <src=> once its been created. Usually, most forums keep it as an IMG textline whilst its morphs as an actual picture in the preview section, so its easier to edit and alter. Instead its the opposite, it becomes an pic under an <src>. What happens then it becomes a real hassle to edit a picture beyond that. I think there should be a resizing capability with ST7 (i've seen some resized images here before), but I have yet to know how. To avoid that from happening, go to your Profile Settings, and switch your editor to use Standard instead of RTE. The RTE tries to be "smart" about it, but it's more of a nuisance when trying to do what you're trying to do. The Standard editor preseves the bbcode and makes life generally easier... I'm not a fan of the RTE in this respect, so you're absolutely right. Oh the sweet look of text! Thanks again dirk! That did the trick!
  7. Tutorial Region Name

Howzit, nicolasville! If you want to change the name of your city, there is an official cheat for it. Here's how. While playing your city, hit [CTRL] and [X] at the same time. Then, enter [whererufrom "your city name goes here"] in the line. If I remember right, you may have to put in the ["quotations"]'s when stating your intended city name. It's a must if you want it to have more than one word in it. I've had a few times where I changed my city's name to like [New Stratos] and it came out as [New] because I didn't quotate it! Hope this works! Tropic Storm
  8. Possibility of a U.S. Government Shutdown

Likewise with Belgium. Per-person, they're in even more debt than the United States. There are practical ways to reform things and then there are chaotic ways. Just shutting something down is a very chaotic way to reform anything. For example, take the following reasoning: Using oil makes us dependent on foreign governments and it's bad for the environment therefore we shouldn't use it. Let's shut down all of the oil wells and refineries and then we will have to figure out something else. If someone (whoever that would be in this case) decided to follow through on that line of reasoning, things would be very bad for a very long time. Yes, change and transition are difficult for many people. Why make it worse just out of pigheadedness? There are easier ways and man do they love to choose the hard way. That's just the way with politics here. It don't do much but they get their point across, and they get millions of cult followers for doing so. Its funny, how some people hate change, yet they want radical policy. God I love this country. It's so unpredictable I could just hate it.

  13. Possibility of a U.S. Government Shutdown

Here here. This is taking things a little too far, and I'm quite surprised we haven't resorted to tearing each other apart. I have a feeling this is the result of too much partisan bickering and one really hellbent opposition. However, not all hope is lost. I remembered a few months back when the BBC reported Belgium had a shutdown of their central government from cultural tensions between Flanders and Wallonia. Here something from TIME Magazine this year Belgian Waffling: Who Needs Government, Anyway? Ironically some loved having no government. The thing though in their case was local governments took control of what the federal government had ceased. Belgium had a way to pay their workers and manage federal services, we don't (then again, they didn't cease their parliament for financial reasons!). If this shutdown is to happen, the state governments needs to find a way to establish makeshift departments (local army, state IRS system, etc.) to ofset the lack of a federal entity. If not, things might get quite ugly.

  17. I forgot to mention that. I did say in my introduction to ST on another thread I did decide to switch aliases to fit my style. I used to to be a member as far as 2007 with a really uncreative name (you know, millions of numbers at the end). That was sort of "on-off" you can say and I never bothered to post anything, just some stuff on the STEX. I decided over a few months after reliving SC4 that its high time to start fresh. This username fits me well, so its a real keeper for me this time. Anyways, I didn't start this thread to "complain" per se. I didn't put the "improve" vote in for nothing. For me, it all started after having to deal with making a table box for a thread. For what was a 1 minute "click, customize, and post" thing on the old ST6's text editor, it took a whole hour to do that in ST7. I realized at the time the option may have been crippled so ultimately, I gave up. I'm sure everyone else has legitimate gripes about the other parts of the current system but I haven't seen a discussion about it until now. Obviously, ST7 is still ironing the kinks out of many things, but if no address these issues then chances are months later on, we'd still be using the same crippled editor for out city journals and forum posts. Even if the person is "new", at least they're they're taking the mickey and began a discussion about it, even after being criticized by others. If not, the almighty Simtropolis wouldn't (ever) get as far as it has become. Let me know what bbcodes functionality you'd like to have enabled that isn't currently enabled, as well as any bbcode that you'd like to have that we currently don't have. If we turn this into a bbcode feedback/request thread, we can make this into something really productive! Thank you dirk for taking action on this issue. It's great to see a forum to have a proactive webmaster like you at the helm. I'm adding more things to the OP to inform thread readers to post opinions and request.
  18. Northern Orange County, CA

This is really neat of what you came up with. I've never attempted at recreating an entire section of a city. Only fantasy/fiction cities is something I'm good at. From looking at the roadplan on Google Maps, it doesn't seem that as hard to make this roadplan. Most of the roads like you said runs in a straight grid line system. Surprisingly, the entire grid comes out as near dead-even accuracy in the North and West points of majority of the grid itself on the map (My link) If you have something like a Photoshop program, you might be able to copy the Terraformer on-top view of Orange Cty, the config file (to gauge the SC4 city borders), and (if possible) the roadplan of the Orange County road networks from Google Maps and smash them together to make a near-perfect blueprint to gauge where each road and freeway should be placed. If you need any help just PM me. Cheers Tropic Storm

  23. Your system build!

@ Gio Add me in too. Dial-up was such a pain in the 90s! It took a minute to hook up to the old ATT modem and once your on the net, you phone line's completely disabled. All that just for online blackjack! Even just transferring stuff with floppy cards. 1.4 MB's of space can't even hold a 3 minute song. First windows comp was a pos etower with about 400 Mhz celeron cpu, 8 gb hd, and 64 MB! Now today we're talking about multi-core processors, GTX graphics cards, 1gb broadband, and now cloud computer networking. Even my computer runs two operating systems with a 3Ghz dual core processor, and a 1gb nvidia card for less than $500. Talk about Moore's law!
  24. I'm Completely Clueless

Hi Cleaner There must be something wrong with the grayscale info, might have been during the export process. I cannot say for the SCRACC (it may be wrong elevation settings, not sure enough though, never used SCRACC), but I can most certainly say something about the craggy coastline. I've remembered facing with a problem like it from modding the grayscale of an old Auckland map. All those bumps in the coastlines are caused by the compression from saving it as a .jpeg in the paint program, like this for example. All the white dots ended up like huge rocky spikes. I don't know why, but some pic editors love to compress such files. Editing before was such a PITA! If by any chance you have Photoshop, that would be a much better editor for large jpgs like this. In my version of PS, once I click "Save", it gives me an option of saving it in maximum quality so there would be little to no compression at all. After that said, this is a seriously nice region and to have UAE and Qatar on one map in SC4 would be just awesome!
