  1. I agree with 99% of the features proposed here, but also want to add an interested one (I think)> Printable city maps. It could be a button to let you export the city map as a graphic so you can print it. It could also let you put names to the streets, avenues, etc. Just imagine the possibilities to have a printed map to do some planning for the city expansion. I think it would be great to have this. ----

    OMG this is Radioheadstacular!
  3. No 32 bits in hw/full screen.

I´m at the office right now, but here is a post I make a couple of years ago, about the same problem that I had with an older 6600gt. The differences (dithering) between 16 and 32 bits are more noticeable in the water, smokes and clouds. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=24&threadid=66931&highlight_key=y&keyword1=6600gt Cya --------
  4. No 32 bits in hw/full screen.

LOL, read this, from EA Technical Support: "For the issue that you are experiencing, you can try to rollback the drivers of your video card or try previous drivers for your video card. To be able to do this: (explanation on how to rolling back video drivers) If you rolling back your drivers is still not able to do the trick, you may just need to play the game in 16 bit colors." Well, actually I´m playing windowed in 32 bit color. ----
  5. No 32 bits in hw/full screen.

^ Thanks for the tip waway625, but I already tried that (and using the same model!) and nothing happened. After so much trial and error I really don't think that the solution is in some configuration file, but in a patch released by Maxis... so, looks like there's no solution ---
  6. No 32 bits in hw/full screen.

I sent a mail to EA support (I'm a dreamer) and they told me to create a new WinXP user and reinstall the game. Obviously it didn't work. Maxis should use a bit of its programmers time to solve all the bugs with the new cards instead of doing a new set of clothes for The Sims, but I know... they only want money. ----
  7. No 32 bits in hw/full screen.

No posts for now... Hope that someone hear us... waway625, seeing at your log file you're running in 16 bit. Do you see some dithering issues (more significant in water and clouds) compared to 32 bits? This is how the water looks with my card Thanks!

By the way, I can't run SimCity in 32 bits in fullscreen mode so now is 80% recommended Looks like the best cards to run the game are inside the "Video Cards.sgr" file.

I added my card to the VIDEOCARDS.SGR file using the Device ID (should be 0x0391 = "GeForce 7600 GT" with your card), I´ve checked every line of the GRAPHICSRULE.scg and nothing, nada, zip. I think there is no solution
  10. Ok, I really love this game but, really, the graphical part is definitively unoptimized and bad coded. It was made only to be compatible with the models listed in the videocards.sgr file. Looks like the programmers didn´t thought that maybe ATI or nVidia would release new models This is a brief history of my cards and how they performed with the game: ATI 9600 Pro > no problems at all, but a bit slow. GeForce 6600gt > couldn´t make the game run in 32 bits and full screen mode. I thought it was a incompatibility between SC 4 and this model. ATI x1900xtx > excellent card, but SC was unplayable due to scroll lag. So... I bought a GeForce 8800gts a couple of days ago and realize that I have the same problem that I had with my older 6600gt: no 32 bits when running the game in fullscreen and hardware mode. My question is: Are you running the game in 32 bits?? To see if you are really running the game in 32 bits (the in game option panel is a liar), open the log file located in simcity4/apps and check the line "screenBPP = xx". If it says 16 the game is running at 16 bits, and if it says 32, you are very lucky and you have the game at 32 bits. If someone are using the game with a new video card and don´t have this problem please tell me. Thanks!!

OMG, i've just bought an XFX nVidia 8800gts XXX and SimCity 4 run smooth as silk (without the scroll lag of my previous ATI x1900xtx). nVidia 8800 = 100% recommended -----
  12. Best Computer To Run SC4

Be careful with the graphic card. I have an ATI x1900xtx and the game is unplayable in hardware mode (scroll lag). Looks like this game have some issues with the newest Catalyst drivers. I'd recommend some mid range graphic card from nVidia. -----
  13. Originally posted by: Spork Can anyone get the ATI Catalyst 7.1 drivers to work? I tried to repair .Net Framework 2.0 and the error message didn't appear at first but in the end of the installation did. I am still stuck at 6.12. Also does the new drivers do anything to improve SC4? I desperately want to play it. =(quote> Mmmm... everything normal here. I installed the Cat 7.1 without any problem and Simcity 4 still lag like hell when scrolling. I installed it like always. First ran the ATI - Software Uninstall Utility, then restarted the computer, cancelled the Windows messages and ran the Catalyst 7.1 exe. Maybe you should try reinstalling the .NET Framework. I have the .NET 1.1, the 1.1 Hotfix and the .NET 2.0 installed. -----
  14. Conclussion = this is one of the games with the worst scalability that I know of. A pitty really. For example, I can play Half-Life (1998), Deus Ex (2000), System Shock (1998) or Simcity 3000 (1999) without a problem. Simcity 4 (2003) is unplayable in my new PC. ------

Hope that helps Later MUNCHER_202quote> Hi Muncher, thanks for the welcome I've tried with everything disabled (AA, anistropic, etc.) and definitely this has nothing to do with the lag problem. The only way for me to solve the scroll lag is using the Catalyst that comes in my video card CD. This bug appears with the Catalyst version 6.5 to 7.1 (I don't know why, but versions older than 6.5 are impossible to install, maybe my card is too new for them). Thanks -----
